A blog celebrating literary, artistic and natural beauty. Very subjective. Very eclectic. Romantic poetry is definitely a focus. 54 yo married man behind all this. Be nice. I'm shy. :)

“I am so terrified, America,
Of the solid click of your human contact;
And after this
The winding-sheet of your selfless ideal love –
Boundless love,
Like a poison gas.” - The Evening Land, D H Lawrence

"I confess I am afraid of you.
The catastrophe of your exaggerate love,
You who never find yourself in love
But only lose yourself further, decomposing." - The Evening Land, D H Lawrence
This is from Poetry Magazine, November 1922. It's a poem about America for which Lawrence had a certain fascination. (His book on American 19th century writers is still worth reading.) There's a lot of really interesting imagery in the poem, of which these lines are perhaps the most striking.
