Open with fucker in a hat who directly addresses the audience and explains what's going on in a way that raises far more questions than it answers, then immediately drop the viewer into the middle of a shouting argument between three of the weirdest people you can possibly imagine.

its fascinating how very very surface level 1920s-ish jazz age inspired aesthetics are very popular (see: hazbin hotel and electroswing and the endless wave of bowtie pinstripe character designs from the 2010s) but the vast vast majority of people who are into that seem fundamentally disinterested in actually engaging with actual jazz age art and culture because that would require engaging with black art
#i can sense that probably i should not look at the notes on this one for my mental wellbeing#he said before resolving to contribute#but yeah it is painfulll#as someone who actively likes electro swing it is consistently made clear to me that many of its listeners would not know what swing was#outwith the context of electro swing remixes of cartoon songs made by white people lmao#also I won’t ramble on this but#honestly hazbin hotel becomes more interesting when looked at through the lens of how its text refuses to engage with its own influences#as but one example of many#there is an alternate universe where alastor registers as a jazz age biracial man in a way that feels intentional literally at all#and it’s not THAT far away so how did we end up here
