"It's a family trade; aeronautical sciences. My father was an engineer, as were my brothers, as am I... But if I had to choose one thing that made me /want/ to be an engineer... That'd have to be the sky. I always thought birds had it the best, going wherever they wanted... nothing to hold them down...-Can you imagine my disbelief when I discovered sky pirates? No rules, no regulations, Just ... Adventure! I felt engineering would get me part of the way there. Uh... While retaining my family's good graces... heh. Engineering helped get me to where I wanted to be... but now I know what I wanted wasn't simply the freedom to fly wherever I wanted, but to share that dream with others."

There’s a note from the author, Hanako Omori, regarding this specific piece:
“While this person isn’t Eorzean nor were we present on the continent when this interview took place, I felt the need to publish it. Unfortunately, he had met a terrible fate during an expedition we were both part of. And his body was not found. I made a promise to him I’d write a book about him... Here’s one of his many stories.”
______
“ I suppose that would be when I first opened the doors of my dojo. Swordsmen from all around Yanxia flocked to study under me. The sons of landed samurai, vagabond ronin, even ijin... That fame... It was widespread, but fleeting. Fleeting enough that it never made much of an impact in the history books... I had just won a high-profile duel against a prominent samurai. A proper samurai, that is. I was still a ronin, and for a masterless swordsman to triumph over one such as that was already noteworthy. Some duels are fairy simple matters. For instance, this swordsman was rather vocal in his belief that a vagrant such as myself should not have been allowed indoors, especially in the town's rather nice sake house, which I had come to favor in my short time there. Among other various... untoward beliefs regarding my appearance and overall demeanor... I suppose, after so long, I ceased to keep track of the likes of titles and accolades. It was a distraction. I decided such attentions were better focused on the study and betterment of my art. I serve no lord, however, so I would be considered a ronin, still. Though such labels hardly matter anymore...”

There’s a note from the author, Hanako Omori, regarding this specific piece:
“Our friendship was fleeting, quickly over just as it began. But we were close and I already miss him so. Unfortunately, he had met a terrible fate during an expedition we were both part of, murdered in cold blood while trying to escape capture. This story is in tribute to him.”
_______
“The simple answer is thus: I wanted an out. This is actually the title of the longer answer. I wanted out of my duties in Ishgard. I wanted out of Ishgard. Not out of a desire to abandon what I had there, but... I wanted to see the world Lucas had. I spent my entire life in Ishgard on its myriad levels, but not a once have I really seen what lay beyond her frigid gates. Then here came Lucas, shining bright and livelier than how he'd left us with tales of his ventures aboard the Voyage... yes. I was so envious, it hurt. These are things I never thought I would have seen in my lifetime. It's... it's incredible! It's all I hoped for and more.”

"I had plenty of sisters, I'm... near the middle? I also have a younger brother. I grew up with lot of other children. Not.. a lot, but it happened! We were all very close, but some of us like to brawl and yes, fights happened. Anything can be a good excuse to share a few fists. But mothers do not like it very much. Depends! Some says it teaches how to fight, some don't like when anger takes control. And it was for fun We were not really angry at each other, we just needed some emotions to go out. I had only twelve siblings, because my father did not have many children before fighting the new Nunh. Y'tuhali was the best huntress, and Y'kalio is the best singer I've ever heard. My brother Y'akzaru is the new Nunh. He's very kind and not very strong... They all were, and I had lot of cousins and friends too. We're never alone in our tribe."

“Did I skirt the law sometimes? Sure, but the law's a bastard, really. All it does is serve those in power. There was... I deal in moko, yeah? It's how I managed to get my start. It's honest work, doesn't hurt anyone. But... one day I was frustrated, things weren't going my way and my magic got the better of me. It was in the city, saw some Blades harassing some folks. I, thinking I had a handle on how magic operates, figured I'd step in and intervene. It was a bit more than I could handle on my own, ended up throwing out more fire than I wanted. I ended up outrunning the other two Blades easy, since I kinda know the back alleys and hideaways to evade them. I think it was kind of a wake-up call to me then. That I can't just do what I want when I want, otherwise someone's gonna get hurt real bad. Might even be me. Being on this expedition, I kinda think about that more. Think about how, like, yeah, professionalism and all that. But I gotta calm down at least a little bit. Cause it ain't gonna be just be me that gets burned, ya know?”

“We've known each other since we were just wee little things, and-- every skirmish, every battle, I'd go find him after the smoke cleared. In the infirmary, or by the tents, or at the mess hall... Or he'd find me. It's a routine, see. If you don't remember who you're fighting for... What's the point? What would we have now that we're free of Garlemald, if we didn't remember whose freedom it really is? The smiling comes after it's all done. We don't often fight near each other-- he's infantry, and I'm not-- and.. It's not ever a fun thing, to be in a war. That's why it's so important to take the joy where you can, after. It's easy to get into it, to take too much joy in blood shed, or to romanticize all the death out of it. And it's hard to both take it seriously, and to be okay. The routine helps, yeah?"

“The wonder of birth is an uncertainty for many. Mothers die far more oft than one might expect, or are left in such a state that they cannot tend to their own. One story, however... hm... there is a child here, in Ishgard. She was born but a fortnight ago, and I was forced to care for her while the mother recovered her strength. She lost her father before she was ever born, and many worried that the child would become an orphan. But I watched over both mother and child both whilst I could. The last of a dying line of knights, I believe—I do not recall the name. But just last eve, the mother could hold the child for the first time and I have never seen such a smile as hers. She has taken to name the child after me."

"Well, I didn't used to be this big, but I've always known how to take care of myself. Family made sure of that. Well, it was just me and my mother. Her name is Farah, and that's what I call her. Farah fought tooth and nail to take care of me. I love her very, very much. --She had a little garden in my childhood home. Farah's good at alchemy; specifically medicine making. She'd make medicine for our neighborhood, but I remember she'd sit me up on a little stool and show me how it all worked. I know how to do alchemy pretty well, because of it, but not on her level. It's a fond memory, watching and listening to her work."

People of Eorzea is back from hiatus!
We just want to express how much fun we’ve had during Shadowbringers and simultaneously apologize for such a long delay that was past our original scheduled start date. We are now back!
_______
There have been a couple of updates to our rules…
1) We added a starting clause: Please know that we have the right to deny any requests as we see fit. **This is in regards to multiple scheduling conflicts (i.e. missing 2+ appointments, unresponsive to confirmations, etc) as well as to avoid unfortunate and bad circumstances. We will be careful in selecting who we choose to interview.
2) We will not be conducting any interviews in the First. As a friendly reminder, this is People of Eorzea! The First is considered another realm in which our characters have no way of accessing, as well as character level restrictions. **This also includes Othard, Hingashi and anywhere OUTSIDE of the Eorzean continent.
The rules posted on our tumblr page are up-to-date as of this post. ________
We’re still open to scheduling interviews, so please keep sending them in! With our inbox currently empty, we’ve been seeking out a lot of walk-up interviews! Keep an eye out!!
Can’t wait to see you back out there! -Hanako, Kaname, and Ayame.

"A-HAH! Now there's a tale for the ages. It were a night as black as pitch, a handful o' summers ago back in pretty Gyr Abania. Meself'n a team o'... mm, might've been four'r five, we were crawlin' the sands on our bellies, aye? Wantin' to keep low o' the searchlights they had peerin' out from the towers a ways outside o' Rhalgr's Reach... Hells was the scout's name... Gurmond? Grazan? --Gorimond! Thassit. He'd crawled ahead, y'gather, seein' as his father said he were born with eagle's eyes, and out o'the quiet o'the night and our slow scufflin' comes the call from Gorimond on the linkpearl. Three black-an'-crimson sentries, marchin' down the path, his way! Well, now our lad needs backup, aye, 'cause -- keen eyed as he were, a man three-to-one's like to be in a pickle -- so two o'the other lads, they take their knives in hand'n skulk out to politely introduce the patrols to their makers. Meself, I'm the only gun, so it's the high ground fer me -- and as it happens, there were a short scale o' rock to the left o' me, so up it I go, with the barrel o' the rifle between m'teeth... But one o'the sentries belts out a cry then, yeah? And the searchlights start goin' wild! Bloomin' lights swingin' this way and that round the desert floor, like coinpurses at a tavern-house, aimin' to catch a sight o' me boys on the ground -- and one of 'em is bang on its way! A man can't have that -- but he CAN have steady aim and a prayer. So I say one, ready the other -- point me gun up to the nearest tower... and BANG! ...Turns out I missed the man, but what I didn’t miss were the ceruleum-powered searchlight itself, which promptly did that thing what ceruleum does. Explode, an' that. SPECTACULARLY. Sent the bloody whor-- I mean, the enemy soldier AND his bloomin' lights sky-high. There's tell they could see it all the way in Ala Ghiri! --HAH. I'll tell ye, though, me boys had no trouble dispatchin' the rest o' the patrol after that."

"It was mainly me father, he was one too stubborn but passionate barstard, aha! He retired as a paladin after a few turns in Ala Mhigo before taking his arms in creating and crafting, got me into it, and I fell in love with it. The paladin job was a vow I promised him when his soul crystal appeared in my pillow one night after a odd dream. I.. was in a blank area, only with the night sky above and the floor just white. Me father, bless his soul.. He was standing near me with that smile of assurance and the blade he forge in his hand. The same one in my hands now. He told me, 'Grayve, it’s time for you to aid those that are weak, smite those to try and harm the innocent and protect the morals and friends you care the most. Promise me you will keep those vows and not break from anyone’. I couldn't say no, he passed too soon and I want to make sure his legacy stayed."

“To tell you the truth, I don’t really remember where all too clearly. I’ve been living the nomadic lifestyle from a very young age, so my memories of my homelands are very fuzzy. If I do remember correctly, I lived in a place with something along the lines of the ‘Greatwood Forest’, or something like that. I think my favorite place would be East Shroud. I tend to go there on my free time and wait on top of the tavern house there and listen to the sounds. Sometimes, you even here the bells of someone’s Eternal Bonding ceremony.”

“Well... I grew up in Gridania-- outside of Gridania. It's considered the Black Shroud, and I don't disagree-- the people can be unwelcoming at best, and inhuman at worst-- I grew up in a family of black sheep, watching people be treated as less than... My parents were always very serious about respecting people, and giving to others if you were in a good position... My personal role model is Kan-E-Senna-- she as much on her plate, but she works tirelessly to change the hierarchy of Gridania so that all people are treated kindly.”

"Home was just outside these walls. 'Neath the southern reaches of the Lochs, beneath the earth, in caves did my ancestors make their haunt. The clan of Kanjun battled vilekin to stake out our home. The blood which was shed to secure that soil was dashed away in an instant when Garlemald invaded. It was then I knew that solitary life and staying away from the politics of the city was folly. If family history such as that can be erased on a whim, why would I not pursue any additional measure to secure it? Foundations is what makes a Spoken; I aim to preserve mine."
