The Dawn of a New Era

Twitter is Sinking. The band is playing the final tune. We have jumped into a lifeboat named Tumblr and revived what was meant to be forgotten (aka, all our old blogs and posts). 

Who let our past selves be this way? We’ll never know. But what I do know is you should not scroll past this post, for who knows what lies beyond. It could be dangerous. It could be horrific. And it would be, so do not risk your life in such ways. Remain here, where it is safe.

In 2018 I shared 110 #TravelLife2018 photos on Twitter. This tradition I started a couple of years ago allows me to slow down while doing one of my favorite things, traveling, and capture not only the moment, but the uniqueness of the location so I can recall it later on. This year I've thought a lot about Christmas. Coming off of a hard Halloween season (filled with the highest highs and lowest lows), accepting Christmas and enjoying the season became extremely difficult for me. But as I sat watching Holiday Wishes tonight, I couldn't help but tear up a bit at the sound of the masses cheering for Tinkerbell as she flew over them and for the grand finale, which is impressive no matter how many times you see it. Working in the tourism industry during the holidays is extremely difficult, for many, many reasons, but I'm so thankful for the people who have made this place feel like home this season and in all seasons. And beyond that, I'm thankful for all the people and places that give me that same feeling, because even when we're far away during the holidays and our heart is perhaps split between places all over the world, sometimes all it takes is a little holiday magic to remind you of just how lucky you truly are. December 8 will forever be a day of reflection for me, as three years ago it was the day I experienced defeat, and began one of the longest, hardest battles I've ever fought as I attempted to pick up the pieces and find myself again. Last year on this day I mentioned that I thought I was moving on, and in some ways, I have. But I realized recently that the wounds that December of 2015 gave me are still open, I'm just better at keeping them clean. We are molded in life by the good and the bad, and that's why this day is always a reminder for me that they're all worth living. Sometimes the pain remains, but whenever it starts to sting again we just have to remind ourselves of all the incredible things that surround us: Our friends, our family, and above all else, the laughter and smiles that bring light back into our lives even in the darkest moments.
