Dear Rabbits:

And like that, the game was over. The battle done. The mosaic shone brightly in the mesa sun, the ambivalent deity smiling down for once. The team sat there admiring the view, Dess and Jellie playing with a few stray tumbleweeds. The journey takes so long, and you make friends, and then it's over in the beautiful sunset.

But in that journey you created bonds and smiles and works that will leave an impact. As beautiful as the people who created them, the pieces glitter in the sun. You look back on what you've made, and you see that it is good. The things you have made will remain to remind you of the journey, with its trials and tribulations. Trial chambers and trail ruins and trial wins, bosses and board in your wake. Things that have kept you awake are now put to rest. It is time for rest, now. When the sun goes down, the mesa comes to life; plants bloom, lizards scurry about, and the air cools enough to be comfortable. You settle amongst the wildlife and admire the view. And with a needed sigh and a far away neigh, you eat some stew. Your captains eat with you, just as tired but even more excited. We love you, we say, because you are strong. We love you, we say, because you are determined. We love you because the mesa loves you. Because no matter how far you run or how you get there, you never give up. We love you. Thank you for keeping us company and for watching over Dess. Thank you for fighting and striding and playing with Jellie. Goodbye for now, kiddos. See you around sometime, rabbits.

This poem was written together by myself and @sweetietoppartandthoughts for Team Mesa of @mcytblraufest fame, which we ended up co-captaining! It was wonderful working with bee, and with the rabbits of course.

I now extend to the rabbits the same offer I gave my endlings when the time came: if you would like to keep up with your fellow rabbits but are perhaps too shy for dms, there is a Discord server made by myself, @amphibianauthor, and @mooberg that was originally intended to host our works but that we have decided to open up to you if you'd like somewhere to continue to socialize! What Happens Next

It's time to start the editing phase of Aufest this year, and it's time to look at what we want the event to be next time. While you edit, we have some polls for you!

First: the question of if we change up the yearly event schedule. The mod team enjoyed battleship a lot, and we've seen a lot of people excited to do it again! We see two options for this: either we can keep it as one of the AU Fest options, meaning that it would be part of the poll that is going up in the next post, and then if it wins the poll battleship would take place around the same time next year and have AUs as the premise, or we could rearrange our yearly exchange cycle. Our current plan for this is that we would move Battleship to the spring exchange slot (normally when we hold @mcytrecursive), have @mcytaufest in the summer as a separate event, and then move Recursive to the late fall, where it would then replace @mcytblrholidayexchange.

i had a thought of "do people not know what AUs are anymore?" and then i remembered nobody explains fandom stuff to new people anymore so it is entirely plausible people genuinely don't know what AUs are and nobody has explained it to them, so for today's lucky 10,000:

"AU" stands for "Alternate Universe" or "Alternative Universe" (same difference) and is basically any thought scenario for a fandom that isn't canon and can't fit within the canon universe. If it takes place in the canon universe but something is notably different, that is typically what's known as a "Canon divergent AU," because it diverges from canon.

an AU can be absolutely anything. There's a couple of widespread pan-fandom au scenarios that often get thrown around, like coffee shop aus, genderbend aus, hanahaki aus (hanahaki is a whole thing in itself i'd recommend researching on your own), etc. One you might hear sometimes is "crossover AU" which is when you have characters from one fandom interacting with characters from another.

You can have as many aus as you want. They can be whatever you want and you can do whatever you want in them. It's a sandbox for you to play around in and explore how things would be different or how the characters would act in those circumstances or environments. Maybe they have different relationships with each other. Maybe they behave slightly differently. Or you can just say "Okay, [x] is true. How did they get here? How would things have to be different for this to occur?" which can also be fun.

If you are ever confused about why people ship something that seems completely out of the blue or doesn't make sense to you in the canon setting, there's a good chance they like it in an AU setting! Not everything everybody is interacting with is necessarily the canon! Not everybody wants things to exist in canon and just want to explore playing dolls in a different sandbox and that's okay. And their sandbox might look a lot different than yours, and that's also okay. You have the freedom to make your sandbox whatever you please. Do whatever you want forever. Get funky with it. AUs are fun.
