while all the hartness kids have close bonds. none of them quite beat the bond between gray jr and franklin jr. the two eldest, with four years between them. while gray was always seen as a model student, well behaved, polite and kind, charming and popular. the moment he would spot someone picking on his younger brother of speaking ill of him. he turned into some kind of other beast altogether and beat the hell out of those kids. and the thing is that franky never needed protecting, he was arguably even more capable than his elder brother, and boat loads more intelligent. but school settings were not for franky. he was already more intelligent than his teachers by first grade, and he didn't like the other kids, who he saw as stupid compared to himself. so, he never really had any friends other than his brother during that period. but despite all of it, gray never considered not defending his younger sibling. he loved franky too much to not. the sentimentality never needed to be returned either because no one ever messed with gray. he was the golden boy of their school. but franky would have done the same if the occassion came for it.
as they grew into teenagers and then adults, gray never stopped protecting and looking after his brother. even when gray eventually left home in his mid-teens to train for and become part of a pop idol group, the two brothers still talked daily. and when franky started getting into trouble with the law, gray was always there to bail his brother out and take care of him in whatever was necessary for his drug problems. though, it eventually got to a point where gray had to tell their parents about all these issues because he started to fear for franky's life as well as his sanity. this caused a rift between the two which took quite some time to rebuild, and gray was never sorry for doing what he did because in the end, it helped franky lead a healthier life.
on the other hand, franky, by no fault of his own, was never great at helping gray with his problems. mostly because they involved his very dramatic and public love life. gray is a big romantic, franky is not. but one day he'll find a guy to be as obsessed with as his dad is about his husband. :') he's just not the guy you go to for love life advice, that's what jack is for lmao. but he was there for gray when he decided to go more solo from his band, which was a very stressful time in gray's life. he faced backlash from both fans and the industry, and franky shielded his brother from what he could, keeping him distracted and motivated to follow his own wants and desires. unfortunately, gray inherited the trait from jack of putting everyone else before himself, while franky is far more balanced in that area.
basically, they are ride or die siblings.
#franklin.#gray.#gray + franklin.#kinda awful how their bond mirrors what jack and his brother's could have been like :')#and also funny how it mirrors jack and john at the same time

It was cute, real cute...for all of three seconds. In truth, he knew he was loved, wanted and cared for by his kin, and why his dad thought otherwise was anyone's guess. Had he projected the idea that he believed he was unloved? Maybe. But only because the rest of his family constantly reminded him of such, and sometimes the love bombing felt all too real, so he pushed it away just to rest in his own headspace when it became too much for him.
Still, the pains in the asses he called family mattered to him. Most days, it felt like they were the only thing that mattered. Did anything else other than them matter? Maybe, maybe not. Even if it didn't, did it matter? God forbid a grown ass man wanted to rage against the void of the universe every now and again, and he found it a little hypocritical coming from this one individual in particular, his father. So, Franklin folded his arms, heaved his boots up on the table, and cocked his head, ready to play whatever weird little game they were getting into. "Yer in no position to judge either way, old man," he shot back, not in an unfriendly manner, simply a matter of fact. "I did sooo much snoopy snoopin' while on my travels. You didn't exactly cover yer tracks as well as yer other half. Terrorism?" A small whistle escaped him. "I'll admit that's impressive, an' explains so much 'bout why we're all wired so freaky like." quieting for a moment, he nodded slowly, accepting the fact all over again that genes indeed played a part in why he cared little for the straight and narrow paths of life.
Pondering on his dad's question of what would make him happy, he knew immediately what he wanted, and the signs of a small smile began to form. Franklin leaned in a bit closer, his brown Harkness eyes taking on a familiar sort of twinkle. "I want to know more 'bout yer past. That's all. Nothin' more. Do that an' I'll come home with you without makin' one peep."
IN MANY WAYS, HIS CHILD WAS LIKE HIM. not quite like looking in a mirror - he had no idea where his intelligence came from - but this wild rebellion? there was nothing he could say to him. the truth of the matter was, he was him. clocks rewound four thousand years, and he was him, nihilism and all. he thought nothing mattered back then. and because nothing mattered, he could do whatever the hell he wanted. he could throw himself into oblivion, because who would even care? but he learned the hard way - if nothing matters, then everything must matter.
he wasn't leaving this place without his child. he was coming home, whether he liked it or not.
โ oh... it's like that, hm? โ his comments made him snort, vaguely reminded of his own past atrocities. he'd hurt people. he'd hurt a lotta people. couldn't take that back - didn't really care enough to want to, but he cared about this family he'd crafted. WHO WAS JOHN HART, WITH PEOPLE TO LOSE? a fierce protector, who'd do whatever it took to keep his babies safe. his second oldest had been exploited for his talents long enough.
โ here's what i think - you want me to leave, so you can validate what all'a that - โ index finger tapped at the side of his own head. โ - all those voices in your head are telling you. you don't matter. nothing matters. they don't love you, don't want you... blah, blah, blah. โ yawn. poor mental health - it needed a new routine, truly. the same old was getting stale. โ so no... i'm not gonna do that. you think i'm here to be a pain in your ass, ruin your day? you think i'm here to make you feel shitty, or to judge you? โ a small chuckle rang out, laced with fondness. all those smarts... and his child was still hilariously foolish, at times. โ i'm here 'cause i love you. 'cause me and your pita - we see you ain't happy. so i'm gonna ask you... what would make you happy, right now? โ
