CARTUJANO
(Presidente x Cartujana IV)
Grey Spanish Stallion born 1928
Bred by D. ANTONIO PEREZ TINAO, Spain
Cartujanao is the sire of 1 of 6 foundation horses recognized by the APSL: Hucharia, a mare born in 1943 and bred by the State of Portugal, Coudelaria Nacional.
Interestingly, I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole looking into this Lusitano Mare's pedigree. On the sire and dam side of Hucharia, both contain the influence of the Chilean Stallion FORASTERO, which I cannot find anything about (in English at least).
I didn't find anything about importing Chilean horses into Europe for the purposes of improving Spanish horse stock at the turn of the century, but I would be very interested in knowing more about this. Did someone decide to bring back in blood from original Spanish horses the conquistadors brought to the Americas in the 1500's?

Last week I picked up some orphans from the feedlot after their dams shipped. They're about 6 weeks old now, weak and fragile, but getting stronger.

Dardo ll aka great grandpa Bubs
If I ever end up with enough fun money to splurge on another horse, I will be specifically looking for Dardo ll in the pedigree. From the famed Nilo and Firme (Andrade) line of Manuel Veiga horses, he was a little guy standing at *almost* 15.2 hands, stallion inspection score of 81/100 points, and produced many influential and equally very high scoring offspring, including Othelo Do Retiro.

Tom Price’s Field - Ivy’s Mom & Half Brother by Elizabeth Sescilla Via Flickr: While in England, I got to meet Ivy’s mom in the flesh! She was such a kind, gentle mare with “old soul” eyes. She seemed like such a wise horse…if only they could talk. She had this adorable chestnut colt by her side, who was by a different sire.
