"what did students do before chatgpt?" well one time i forgot i had a history essay due at my 10am class the morning of so over the course of my 30 minute bus ride to school i awkwardly used by backpack as a desk, sped wrote the essay, and got an A on it.

six months later i re-read the essay prior to the final exam, went 'ohhhh yeah i remember this', got a question on that topic, and aced it.

point being that actually doing the work is how you learn the material and internalize it. ChatGPT can give you a short cut but it won't build you the the muscles.

Did you know that JRR Tolkien wrote an unpublished epilogue to Lord of the Rings? It's achingly, beautifully wistful in the way that only Lord of the Rings is. I revisited it recently because I'm guesting on my friends' LOTR podcast, and THAT reminded me that I drew a comic of the epilogue back in 2021 (all text is entirely canon). Anyway I thought folks on this website might enjoy it!

it makes me sad the way cis women are so terrified of and disgusted by their own body hair. and i'm not talking "i have to shave for sensory reasons" i mean i keep seeing videos of women using hair identifier spray on their faces and hands so they can shave the tiniest barely-there bits of peach fuzz that came free with their bodies. hair that serves a purpose and that purpose is cleanliness and protection. i mean when i was in elementary school girls who had barely hit puberty were talking about shaving their arms. i mean full-grown adult women who will have a breakdown if they see two days of stubble on their legs/crotch/ jaw/pits because god forbid you don't look like a perfect plastic barbie doll. god forbid your body that keeps you alive comes with hair that may not be soft and glossy and photogenic. some women are so afraid of having any hair apart from their head and eyebrows that they've uno reversed themselves into six different kinds of gender dysphoria that they can't recognize as such because they're convinced that this unnatural state of highly-groomed capital-informed beauty is how women have always been. you're so scared of looking "gross" or "ugly" or "mannish" that you can't even look at your body in the mirror and recognize what it is. sister you are an ape. why are you so determined to deny your nature.

I think all of us knew Eragon and Arya was going to be a canon couple. Considering how the majority of the Fandom is, considering how Christopher chose to write Arya in specifically to be his wife*, this was almost all but certain.

But I still don't like it.

I'm not even sure I would read it tbh. I mean, it depends, but im really in the fence. Especially now that he's asked on Twitter if we want a romantasy. It's really not something I would want, but it's hard to argue against the overwhelming majority.

From what I know about Christopher, which is not much because he's a fairly private person, but from what I see in his writing and some of his tweets he put out over the years (anyone remember his pro-natalist tweets?) He seems like a very traditional person, not to mention the characters he writes are the same.

This makes me anxious, to say the least. Even if I did ship them, a more conservative type of marriage does invited sexism sometimes, and I do not think Arya is the housewife type. I don't even see her having children! But they will, because they are the "ultimate testament to their love"

Especially since I don't ship it, I just feel a bit bad man. I know i need to deal with it, that Christopher is the one who decides. But I did just wanna throw my opinion in the ring once more

salmon have a little fin on their backs between the dorsal and tail find, called the adipose fin. at hatcheries we put teenie tiny tags into the foreheads of salmon fry before releasing them to the wild. we clip their adipose fins (using pain management for the fry don’t worry) so years later when the salmon return to spawn we can identify tagged fish. some states even clip virtually all of their hatchery-born fish so they can all be identified, regardless of tagging programs, like so (x)

anyway a lot of salmon merchandise forgets the adipose fin. stickers and t-shirts and artsy posters and magnets etc etc used to drive me bonkers bc artists just tend to forget the adipose fin.

but no longer bc ever since working at a hatchery i no longer see an adipose-less salmon and think it’s inaccurate anatomy. now i’m like : 0 !! : ) oh this fish was born at a hatchery wroww 💖🐟

next time you see salmon merch u should check to see if it was born in a hatchery : )
