Before, as hard as it was for him to think about life before, he only had his brother and sister to worry about. His brother was now his parabatai and while they always protected each other, it wasn’t anything more than that. Now that he was with his brother, now that Sebastian had showed him just what he was meant to do with his life, he knew that nothing else mattered. Though, he could admit the words that fell from him were a little uncharacteristic. He rarely allowed himself to care about anything nor anyone. Clary had tried to remind him that it was okay to feel something. Now, though, none of it mattered. Jace didn’t need to feel things like that in this new life. He could worry about his brother, he would worry about him but it wasn’t the sort of things their father had told him about.

But what if he did? What if something had changed?

The stroke against his cheek followed by the fingers curled around his neck dragged him from his thoughts. With their foreheads pressed together as they were he could see so much in his brother. Just like he knew his brother could see so much in his own. Jace may not have liked his brother to see the worry in his eyes but in that moment he didn’t care.

“I never worry,” he teased, knowing that his brother would know he was lying. Through their strange bond Sebastian would be able to feel just how much he worried about him. Even more so now that they were pushing further with their plan. The last thing he wanted was to lose his brother, but he knew that it was always a possibility. “And I know you do. You’ve yet to leave me alone in this place.” It didn’t stop him from worrying.

There was something off about this, something he couldn’t put a finger on. But he knew that the risks were higher now and that he could lose him.

a loud chuckle and he doesn’t pull away, letting his grip fall away to his shoulder with a shake of his head. It should be an uneasy feeling ─ he knew. Their position as familiar it all felt now. Sebastian didn’t fall into the illusion that it would be forever. A quick glance to the other boy’s covered chest reminded him where this all started and where it all ended. But he was, undeniably, a hedonist and an opportunist at heart, and perhaps as unnatural as it all felt in the moment ─ he found himself enjoying it anyway. 

There would be other days to hate him again anyway.

“ I’m beginning to wonder if you’ve always been this terrible of a liar. “ He pulls away then, fixes the strap of his weapon’s belt around his weight. Counts the knives hidden on his person once more before turning towards the door. “ What would you do after all without me, hm? Something boring, I imagine. “ Although the thought did present an interesting exercise for him to pass the time on his way to inquire on some promised information. They’ve had too much eyes on Jace with all the errands he’d asked him to do. It was his turn to get his hands dirty.   “ Don’t stay up late, little brother. “

also to add its even better with them exchanging swords cos it’s almost a symbolic exchange of meaning, jon going from light bringing to dawn bringer, and clary the same vice versa.  with dawn signalling change and light meaning new life when in the context of canon it’s also neat cos light becomes the obvious exchange of jon’s life for peace and then dawn for clary is judgment and just either way the morgensterns cursed by their names

what would it be like if jon indefinitely lost his powers / had them suppressed ( like idk if youve watched charmed but if so think abt that kind of spell? ) if thats even possible but if it WERE ( does this even make sense idk but hERE WE GO ) ── @halfafreak​ .

three important facts that i always like to be clear about:

jon is, ultimately a sum of his parts

jon is so much more than just his demon blood ─ he is human, capable of making the decisions for himself, meaning every good and bad decision, is his even if the idea of culpability for said descisions might be a skew but basically pls stop ignoring his agency to be a big fucking dick

he is the biggest, largest, and scariest threat the entirety of the world ( mundane and nephilim alike ) has ever come close to facing and his history should be a cautionary tale for future generations and his legacy should not be so easily forgotten

okay with that said, it should also be noted that for the most part ─ he was deadly pre-resurrection. He was, to some degree, stronger than Jace. That’s canon. He is also stronger than everyone morally too. Because he doesn’t have that. He is not restricted by that. And most importantly, he was trained, rigorously, from birth to be the ultimate soldier his Father needed for his cause.

And the only downside to that is that he was too much of that soldier ─ too much of that monster he needed ─ too violent that he couldn’t be contained. And that is without all of his powers.

He only got stronger after it. Made invincible by the power of his demon mother. And just a whole lot of magic. But beyond that ─ his extra powers has always been limited. And most of them inaccessible outside of Edom. Cause that’s where his powers was built.

So to sum it up - extra strength, extra fast, some lowkey demon skills like talking to demons, some lowkey magic skills, and then can’t die by anything man-made.

Okay, if we take that away, what you’re left with is a boy, still very angry, still very deadly, still very skilled, and still very knowledgeable to all the means to end a life in the fastest, most efficient and most cruel way he could think of. So, he would still be a threat. Perhaps less of a threat to Jace but not to anyone else. Again, only in the context that he lost his powers.

The thing about his powers or his general constitution is that ─ it is partly one of the biggest definition he has to his person. So if you take it away, you are taking a large part of who he is. And for a boy who barely knows wwhat that is, that is going to be an emotional struggle for him. Because he has long accepted his role as this monstrous little thing that needs not be fixed and with that came this notion of absolute power. And you have to understand that, even with all his capability to make decisions for himself, it’s kind of a losing game in the end. Because he is making decisions out of a duty to a role that he didn’t decide to be ─ if that makes sense. It’s like he fell into it.

Because it’s what his Father had wanted. It’s what people have expected of him. It’s waht the world has demanded for him to play. So he plays. He plays it well.

( Which is why again, evil as a standard term doesn’t really apply to him as a person even though he does completely do evil and vile acts, because his intent is not towards that. But that’s again for a different conversation. )

So if you take it away ─ he is going to fight you tooth and nail because power is the only illusion of control that he has over himself. Over the universe. Over everything.

And once he does it  get back, you have no idea of the hell he would unleash.

a trickle of confusion flashes in his dark eyes. A strike of anger that easily blows into full consuming rage. All in the flash of a few seconds. All in the cover of dark obsidian hues. Light barely enough to survive it as the tremor that starts from his spine to his shoulder to his neck stills at the clench of his jaw. 

It’s much faster how his hand finds Jace’s throat. Clenching it harsher than the grip of his jaw and mandible over air. Tighter than the wound sinews in his wrist and in his neck. Quicker than the inhale of breath Jace took with his gasp as he is lifted off the floor, two feet from touching the ground and so close to getting his throat crushed. A hold that Jonathan would ensure to leave marks to remember him boy should he survive. 

( Should he let him survive. )

It’s as he watched him, hovering there, a few feet above the floor that he feels it. A small thrashing wave of hurt and confusion. Two feelings he definitely didn’t assocaite with each other. And even less experience handling together. He didn’t like it, and for a moment his grip almost flickered to nothing, and he could have let the blonde go. He didn’t like that. He didn’t appreciate the call to weakness. No matter how small. 

     “ Be clear now, Angel. “ He warns, growling. “ What do you want me to do? Answer carefully, or I’ll kill you. “

totally random but what would have really been a cool symmetrical thing the show could have done with team evil's powers was build on their whole cl/ace thing being creator and support and have jon as less of i turn flower into ashes cos im scary demon and more like i destroy tunes and mute people's powers Ala the villain from kor. ra as a more direct adversary to them
