I'm all for critiquing the concept of punitive justice but a lot of you are so bad at it. "if you believe in prisons that means you think criminals deserve to go to Rape Factories" you and I can talk about systemic shit baked into our prison system as it exists we can even talk about the kinds of nasty things power dynamics can encourage but. Any consistent person who believes in Law And Order enacted via Punishment is going to see people inside of prisons doing crimes to each other as a Bug even if you don't share that interpretation because you think the purpose of a system is what it does. What you think is irrelevant - your interlocutor "ought to" believe it should do something else and therefore have a different "purpose"; they are not the (sole) people the present system works for!! Your interlocutor does not want Rape Factories, they want prison rapes to be punished severely! If they do want Rape Factories, that just means their values are inconsistent and/or lies and they're genuinely evil. To be truly honest I think that particularly in the long run, full youth liberation would result in stronger (albeit conditionally stronger) families, not the abolition of them. Even if admittedly, weaker family bonds built mainly on legal obligation or toxic culture or whatever the fuck would dissolve, which to be clear is an unambiguously good thing. Not to sound like a social darwinist but weeding out the weak ephemeral relations based on force is a precondition for the truly strong ones to flourish and realize their potential. Like it's a scientific fact that we're all related anyway, it's all just a matter of degree and the quality of the relationship
