名古屋大学・信州大学・東京大学合同ゼミが実施されました。Nagoya University, Shinshu University, and University of Tokyo Joint Seminar

学生が主体となって企画された「名古屋大学・信州大学・東京大学合同ゼミ」が、4月28日、29日に実施され、 水文学・砂防学分野の学生27名が生態水文学研究所赤津研究林に集合しました。 Twenty-seven students in the fields of hydrology and erosion control gathered at the Akazu Research Forest of the Ecohydrology Research Institute on April 28 and 29 for the “Nagoya University, Shinshu University, and University of Tokyo Joint Seminar,” which was organized mainly by students.

4月28日は合同ゼミ会場となる赤津宿泊施設の講義室で、自己紹介や先輩研究者である各大学の教員による経験談を聞きました。 その後それぞれのグループに分かれて、研究上の課題や楽しさなどを共有するグループワークを行い、グループごとに発表が行われました。 On April 28, in the lecture room of the Akazu Accommodation Facility, the venue for the joint seminar, the students introduced themselves and listened to the experiences of senior researchers, faculty members from each university. The participants were then divided into their respective groups for group work to share their research challenges and joys, and each group gave a presentation.

ゼミ終了後は協力して夕食を作り、懇親会では互いの研究談義、学生生活などの話で大いに盛り上がり、懇親を深めました。 After the seminar, the participants worked together to cook dinner and had a lively get-together to discuss each other's research and student life, deepening their friendship.

翌29日は天候にも恵まれ、赤津研究林と観測施設の見学を行いました。 観測施設の案内では、観測研究の歴史、機器の説明や観測の実演が行われ、参加した学生たちは、観測研究の歴史を学ぶとともに、今後の研究に生かせるヒントやアイデアを見つけてくれたらいいなと思います。 The next day, the 29th, was blessed with fine weather, and the group toured the Akazu Research Forest and observation facilities. During the guided tour of the observation facilities, the history of observation research, explanations of equipment, and demonstrations of observations were given. We hope that the participating students learned about the history of observation research and found hints and ideas that they can apply to their future research.

このような複数の大学の学生が主体となって実施される合同ゼミの会場として、生態水文学研究所が利用されることは多くありませんが、東京大学の学生を含む、多くの学生、研究者の交流の場として利用していただけるよう、観測施設や宿泊施設の整備に励んでいきたいと思います。 Although the Ecohydrology Research Institute is not often used as a venue for such joint seminars led by students from multiple universities, we will work hard to improve our observation and lodging facilities so that they can be used as a place for exchange among many students and researchers, including those from the University of Tokyo.

水内助教が退職されました。Assistant Professor Yusuke Mizuuchi retired

1月31日をもって水内佑輔助教が生態水文学研究所を退職されました。 Assistant Professor Yusuke Mizuuchi retired from the Ecohydrology Research Institute on January 31.

2016年9月に着任し、生態水文学研究所での多くの教育・研究活動にご尽力いただき、ありがとうございました。 We thank him for his many educational and research activities at the Ecohydrology Research Institute since he arrived in September 2016.

せと環境塾のシンポジウムで瀬戸市内の史跡を解説する水内助教（2018年1月） Explaining historic sites in Seto City at the Seto Environmental School's symposium (January 2018).

これからも新天地でのご活躍を祈念しております. We wish him all the best in his new position.

また退職はされましたが、今後も農学共同研究員として、生態水文学研究所におけるプロジェクトにご参加いただきます。 Although he has retired, he will continue to participate in projects at the Ecohydrology Research Institute as Visiting Fellow in agricultural sciences. 今後もどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。 Thank you for your continued support.

新たな仲間が加わりました。New members joined us

生態水文学研究所に新しいスタッフが加わりましたので、紹介します。 We would like to introduce three new staff members who joined the Ecohydrology Research Institute.

WEBサイトのスタッフ紹介にもありますが、特任研究員の邱 湞瑋（きゅう ちぇんうぇい 写真上左）と学術専門職員の黄 璇（こう せん：写真上右）、技術専門職員の中川雄治（写真下）です。 As you can see in the staff introduction on the web site, they are Chiu ChenWei (left photo above), a Project Researcher, Huang Xuan (right photo above), a Project Academic specialist, and Yuji Nakagawa (bottom photo below), a Technical Specialist.

邱さんは森林水文学の分野で研究活動を行ってきました。これまでの経験を活かし、バイオマスバリューチェーン実証社会連携講座（連携機関：株式会社ダイセル）での共同研究に加わっていただきます。 Chiu has conducted research activities in the field of forest hydrology. He will be joining our joint research in the Department of Biomass Value Chain Demonstration (partner institution: Daicel Corporation), making use of he past experience.

黄さんは環境社会学（流域ガバナンス・市民科学）の分野で研究活動を行ってきました。これまでの経験を活かし、民間企業との共同研究やプロジェクトに加わっていただきます。 Huang has conducted research activities in the field of environmental sociology (watershed governance and citizen science). She will join joint research and projects with private companies, making use of her experience.

中川さんは北海道演習林から異動で着任しました。GISやドローンなど、高性能デジタル機器の森林施業・教育研究現場への導入に尽力された経験豊富な職員です。生態水文学研究所でスタートしている様々な共同研究やプロジェクトにも力強いサポートが期待されます。 Nakagawa has transferred from the Hokkaido Forest, where he is an experienced staff member who has been instrumental in introducing high-performance digital equipment such as GIS and drones to forestry operations and educational research sites. He is expected to provide strong support for the various joint research and projects that have been started at the Ecohydrology Research Institute.

今年度も下半期に入りましたが、教職員一同協力して、安全に業務に取り組みます。 As we enter the second half of this fiscal year, the entire faculty and staff will continue to cooperate with each other and work safely.

体験活動プログラムが実施されました。The Hands-on Activities was held.

9月24日から27日に体験活動プログラムが実施されました。 今回は3名の学生が参加し、生態水文学研究所の業務を通じて、普段の生活とは異なる文化・価値観を体験しました。 The Hands-on Activities was held from September 24 to 27. Three students participated in the Activities this time, experiencing cultures and values different from those of their daily lives through the work of the Ecohydrology Research Institute.

試験地の踏査や気象・水文観測業務のほかにも、今回は試験地の測定を行いました。 直径テープと樹高測定器を使って、初めて木のサイズを測定しました。 始めは職員の手取り足取りでの測定でしたが、すぐに慣れ、どんどん測定していきます。 樹高30m近いヒノキの測定が無事完了しました。 They experienced the tramping of the test site and meteorological and hydrological observation work. In addition, they took measurements of the test sites. They measured tree sizes for the first time using diameter tapes and tree height measuring devices(Vertex Haglof). They measured with the help of the staff at first, but soon got used to it and measured more and more. The measurement of a nearly 30-meter-high cypress tree was successfully completed.

次の日は砂出しを実施しました。 こちらも初めての作業で、最初は道具の使い方も分かりませんが、すぐに慣れて、皆で協力して砂を排出していきます。 この日は水量が少なく、思うように砂が排出できませんでしたが、それでもよく頑張りました。 The next day, “sunadashi (Discharge of sand from volume weirs) ” was conducted. It was the first time for them to do this work and they did not know how to use the tools at first, but they soon got used to it and everyone worked together to discharge the sand. On this day, the amount of water was low and the sand could not be discharged as expected, but we still did a good job.

4日間のスケジュールは怪我もなく、無事実施することができました。 みなさま、お疲れさまでした。 The four-day schedule was completed without any injuries. Thank you all for your hard work.

森林科学基礎実習Ⅱが実施されました。Basic Forest Science Practicum II was held.

8月19日から23日に森林科学基礎実習Ⅱが実施されました。 実習ではトランシットとコンパスを用いて、実習地の測量を行います。 まず最初に測量場所を全員で下見をしました。 この日は非常に暑く、下見の時点で既にクタクタです。 Basic Forest Science Practicum II was held from August 19 to 23. During the training, participants surveyed the training site using a transit and compass. First, they all previewed the surveying site together. It was a very hot day, and they were already exhausted at the time of the preliminary inspection.

下見のあとにいよいよ測量開始です。 最初はトランシットの据付に苦労しますが、すぐに慣れてどんどん測量していきます。 許容誤差内に収まるまで、何度も再測を行ったようです。 After the preliminary inspection, the surveying finally started. At first they have a hard time installing the transits, but they soon get used to it and start surveying more and more. It seems that they re-measured many times until they were within the allowable error.

皆さん初めての砂出しで、何が始まるのか、真剣に話を聞いています。 This was everyone's first time discharging sediment deposits, and they are listening intently to what is about to begin.

堆積した土砂量を測定するため、レベル測量を行います。 They perform a level survey to measure the amount of sediment deposited.

測量後はただひたすらに堆積した土砂を排出していきます。 流水の力を借りていますが、この夏は雨が少なく、水量も少なかったため、とても過酷な作業になりました。 After the surveying, they just keep on discharging the deposited sediment. They do this with the help of running water, which was very hard work because of the low rainfall and low water volume this summer.

皆さんケガもなく5日間の実習を終えることができました。 お疲れさまでした。 Everyone was able to complete the five days of training without injury. Thank you for your hard work.

4月から新たな仲間が加わりました。New members joined us in April.

もう5月になってしまいましたが、4月から生態水文学研究所に新しいスタッフが2名、加わりましたのでご紹介します。 It is already May, but we would like to introduce two new staff members who joined the Ecohydrology Research Institute in April.

WEBサイトのスタッフ紹介にもありますが、特任研究員の小椋崇弘（写真右）と技術専門職員の吉田弓子（写真左）です。 As you can see in the staff introduction on our website, they are Takahiro Ogura (right), a project researcher, and Yumiko Yoshida (left), a technical specialist.

小椋さんはこれまでに多くの水文データ等を用いて、研究活動を行ってきました。これまでの経験を活かし、様々なプロジェクトに加わっていただきます。 Mr. Ogura has conducted research activities using many hydrological and other data. He will be joining various projects based on his experience.

吉田さんは秩父演習林から異動で着任しました。経験豊富な職員ですので、新しい視点での研究・教育支援が期待されます。 Ms. Yoshida has transferred from The University of Tokyo Chichibu Forest. She is an experienced staff member, so we expect her to support research and education from a new perspective.

4月から新体制になりましたが、今年度も教職員一同協力して、安全に業務に取り組みます。 We have a new structure from April, and the entire faculty and staff will continue to cooperate with each other and work safely this year.

森林と気候の変化が水循環に及ぼす影響と水文研究に関するワークショップと現地検討会を開催しました。We held workshops and field review meetings on the effect of forest and climate changes on the hydrological cycle and catchment hydrology.

チューリッヒ大学のイリヤ先生とマーク氏をお招きして、3月11日から15日にかけて生態水文学研究所およびその周辺地域で行っている研究やプロジェクトサイトにおいて、現地検討会を行いました。 Dr. Ilja van Meerveld and Mr. Marc Vis from the University of Zurich were invited to join us from March 11-15 for a field review meeting at the Ecohydrology Research Institute and project sites we are conducting in the surrounding area.

森林と気候の変化が水循環に及ぼす影響や流域水文学に関するワークショップを開催し、他大学からも水文研究を専門とする多くの研究者や学生が参加しました。 We held workshops on the effects of forest and climate changes on the hydrological cycle and catchment hydrology. Many researchers and students specializing in hydrological research from other universities also joined.

学生からの質問や議論が活発に行われ、大いに盛り上がりました。 The event was very successful, with students asking questions and engaging in lively discussions.

イリヤ先生による森林科学セミナー「森林の回復と土壌発達が斜面の流出プロセスに及ぼす影響」は対面とオンラインによるハイブリットで実施され、多くの参加者がありました。 Forest science seminar by Dr. Ilja van Meerveld, "Effects of forest restoration and soil development on hillslope runoff processes," was conducted in a hybrid format, face-to-face and online, and there were many participants.

会場で参加した研究者からも多くの質問が寄せられました。 The researchers who attended the event, asked many questions.

オンラインでの参加者からはパソコン越しに質疑応答をしました。 Online participants asked and answered questions over the computer.

多くの参加者にとって、とても有意義なワークショップとなりました。 The workshop was very meaningful for many participants.

岸本技術専門職員が異動されました。Technical Specialist Kishimoto has moved transferred.

6年間生態水文学研究所に勤務していた岸本技術専門職員が、3月1日から北海道演習林に異動となりました。 Technical Specialist Kishimoto who has worked at the Ecohydrology Research Institute for six years, moved to the Hokkaido Experiment Forest on March 1.

生態水文学研究所での教育・研究活動にご尽力いただき、ありがとうございました。 所属演習林は変わりますが、同じ東京大学演習林の一員として今後は北海道演習林でご活躍されることを祈念しております。 Thank you for your efforts in educational and research activities at the Ecohydrology Research Institute. Although our affiliation forest will change, We hope that you will play an active role in the Hokkaido Forest as a member of the same University of Tokyo Forest.

大学院講義「森林圏水循環機能学」が実施されました。Graduate School Lecture "Functional Studies of Water Cycle in Forest Area" was held.

大学院講義「森林圏水循環機能学」について、生態水文学研究所での現地実習が12月12・13日に赤津研究林と瀬戸市近隣のプロジェクトサイトで行われました。 For the graduate school lecture "Functional Studies of Water Cycle in Forested Areas," field training at the Ecohydrology Research Institute was held on December 12 and 13 at the Akazu Research Forest and a project site near Seto City.

1日目は赤津研究林にて、白坂小流域固定試験地やモニタリングサイト1000を見学し、技術職員から説明を受けました。 途中、職場体験に来ている市内の中学生が説明をする職員の業務を見学しています。 On the first day, the participants visited Shirasaka-small watersheds experimental plot and Monitoring Site 1000 at Akazu Research Forest, where they received explanations from Technical staff. On the way, junior high school students from the city who are here for work experience observe the work of the Technical staff giving explanations.

2日目は太陽光発電施設周辺の河川環境や気温のモニタリングを行っているサイトの見学をしました。 On the second day, They visited a site where the river environment and temperatures around the solar power facilities are monitored.

ソーラーパネルを設置する前の写真と、設置後の現地を見比べます。 Compare the photo before the solar panels were installed with the site after installation.

太陽光発電施設に降った雨を一時的に貯留する調整池の巨大な堰堤も見学しました。 They visited the huge weir of a regulating reservoir that temporarily stores rain that falls on the solar power generation facility.

午後は豊田プロジェクトの大洞サイトを見学しました。 In the afternoon, They visited the Toyota Project's Oobora site.

モイン特任助教による量水施設の説明を受けます。 Project Assistant Professor Moein explained the water metering facility.

間伐の影響を評価するための様々な観測設備の説明を受け、仕組みやこれまで得られた結果の説明を受けました。 They were briefed on the various observation facilities used to assess the impact of thinning, and were told how they work and the results obtained so far.

参加した学生からは多くの質問があり、研究の現場で有意義な議論が交わされました。 Participating students asked many questions and engaged in meaningful discussions in the field of research.

全学体験ゼミ「人の手で作り管理する森林」が実施されました。Fieldwork "Forests Created and Managed by Human Hands," was held.

全学体験ゼミ「人の手で作り管理する森林」について、生態水文学研究所での現地実習が9月11・12日に犬山研究林と赤津研究林で行われました。 Fieldwork "Forests Created and Managed by Human Hands," field training at the Ecohydrology Research Institute was held on September 11 and 12 at the Inuyama Research Forest and Akazu Research Forest.

1日目は犬山研究林にて、100年前に作られたグリーンインフラを体験しました。 はげ山から再生した森を見学し、土砂の変化を手に取って観察しました。 On the first day, at the Inuyama Research Forest, they experienced green infrastructure built 100 years ago. They toured the forest regenerated from bare mountain and observed first hand the changes in the sediment.

現在の森の構成樹種やサイズ（胸高直径）、樹高などを測り、植生断面図を作成しました。 They measured the current forest composition, size (diameter at breast height), and height of trees, and created a vegetation cross-sectional map.

またスマートフォンアプリを使って森林の景観印象評価も行いました。 They used a smartphone app to assess forest landscape impressions.

２日目は赤津研究林にて、100年前の森林の利用のしかたを体験しました。 小長曽陶器窯跡を見学し、森林の伐採・搬出を体験しました。 On the second day, at Akazu Research Forest, they experienced how forests were used 100 years ago. They visited the ruins of the Konagaso pottery kiln site and experienced the logging and removal of the forest.

薪を使って採暖・調理も体験しました。 They also experienced heating and cooking with firewood.

食後は薪割りを体験しました。みなさん夢中で薪割りをし、伐採したコナラをすべて薪にすることができました。 みなさんお疲れさまでした。

After lunch, they experienced chopping firewood. Everyone was enthusiastic about chopping wood, and they were able to make firewood from all the jolcham oak we cut down. Thank you everyone for your hard work.

森林科学基礎実習Ⅳが実施されました。Training for Forest Science Basics IV was conducted.

今年も8月21日から25日に森林科学基礎実習Ⅳが実施されました。 Training for Forest Science Basics IV was held again this year from August 22 to 26.

猛烈な暑さと不安定な天候の中、尾根と沢をコンパスなどを使って測量をしました。 In the intense heat and unstable weather, they surveyed the ridges and streams using compasses and other tools.

今年も4日目に予定していた「砂出し」は中止となってしまいましたが、みなさん測量はすべて終了したようで良かったです。 This year, too, the "sunadashi (Discharge of sand from volume weirs) " scheduled for the fourth day had to be cancelled, but I am glad to see that everyone seems to have completed all the surveying.

大谷特任助教が退職されました。 Project Assistant Professor Otani has retired.

3月31日をもって大谷侑也特任助教が生態水文学研究所を退職されました。 1年間という短い期間でしたが、御内サイトで初めての砂出しを行うなど豊田プロジェクトにご尽力いただき、ありがとうございました。 Project Assistant Professor Yuya Otani retired from the Ecohydrology Research Institute on March 31. We would like to thank him for his contribution to the Toyota project, including the first sand release at the Miuchi site, during the short period of one year.

これからも新天地でのご活躍を祈念しております。 We wish him all the best in his new position.

全学体験ゼミ「ダムと土砂と海」が実施されました Fieldwork "Dam, Sediment and Sea" was held.

2月25日に全学体験ゼミ「ダムと土砂と海」が開かれ、参加学生が生態水文学研究所の砂出しを体験しました。 On February 25, Fieldwork, "Dams, Sediment, and the Sea," was held, where participating students experienced sand removal at the Ecohydrology Research Institute.

最初に砂出しの説明を受けた後、水を抜いた量水堰内を測量してたまった砂の量を計算しました。 After an initial explanation of the sanding process, they surveyed the drained weir to calculate the amount of sand that had accumulated.

流れてくる水の力を利用して効率的に砂を出せるように、ジョレンや備中といった道具で流れをコントロールする必要があります。技術職員による指導の下、学生たちがひたすら砂を崩しました。 It is necessary to control the flow with tools such as jolens and bittyu so that the sand can be efficiently brought out by the force of the flowing water. Under the guidance of the technical staff, the students worked diligently to break up the sand.

砂出し作業開始直後の様子です。中央部に砂山があります。 This is a view of the sand removal operation just after it started. There is a sand pile in the center.

流れの邪魔になる落ち葉のかたまりやヘドロ層を崩し、砂を寄せて水流が砂山にあたって崩れるように調整していきます。 They break up clumps of fallen leaves and sludge layers that obstruct the flow, and then adjust the sand so that the water flow collapses against the sand pile.

最終的に砂山が完全になくなりました。皆さんお疲れさまでした。 Finally, the sand pile is completely gone. Thank you all for your hard work.

治山緑化工学研究室（東京農大）の水文気象観測研修会が行われました。 A training session on hydro-meteorological observation was held by a group from the Laboratory of Erosion Control and Revegetation Engineering (Tokyo University of Agriculture).

2022年3月まで当研究所に所属していた佐藤貴紀助教が、水文気象観測技術を一つ一つ説明していきます。 Assistant Professor Takanori Sato, who was affiliated with Ecohydrology Research Institute (ERI) until March 2022, explained the hydro-meteorological observation techniques one by one.

観測機器が接続されたデータロガーの仕組みと役割。 The mechanism and role of the data logger to which the observation equipment is connected.

中身が見れるように加工した転倒マス型雨量計を使って観測の仕組みを説明します。 The mechanism of observation is explained using a tipping bucket type rain gauge that has been processed so that the contents can be viewed.

久しぶりに大勢での研修会となりました。 It was the first training session with a large number of participants in a long time.

Kristin Bunte先生による掃流砂観測デモンストレーションが行われました。 Dr. Kristin Bunte gave a demonstration of bedload sampling using bedload trap.

8月31日にKristin Bunte先生による掃流砂観測デモンストレーションが行われました。 当日は演習林の学生に加え、東京農工大学や筑波大学の方も参加されました。 On August 31, Dr. Kristin Bunte gave a demonstration of bedload sampling using bedload trap. In addition to students from the University of Tokyo Forests, participants from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and Tsukuba University also joined the demonstration.

実際に観測を行っている河川でKristin先生から観測方法について説明を受けます。 Dr. Kristin explains the observation method at the river where the observation is actually conducted.

Kurtさんには観測機器の設置方法を実演していただきました。 Mr. Kurt demonstrated how to set up the observation equipment.

上流から流れてくる様々な大きさの砂や石をネットで受け止める単純な仕組みですが、長年の観測によって得られた多くのノウハウが詰め込まれています。 It is a simple system that uses nets to catch sand and stones of various sizes flowing from upstream, but it is filled with a lot of know-how gained through years of observation.

河床にある石のサイズを測ります。 Measure the size of the stones on the riverbed.

参加者からの多くの質問に、丁寧に答えるKristin先生。 Dr. Kristin politely answers many questions from the participants.

観測装置を設置し、サンプリングを行っている時間は生態水文学研究所の観測施設を見学しました。 During the time when the observation equipment was set up and sampling was being conducted, we toured the observation facilities of Ecohydrology Research Institute (ERI).

観測場所に戻り、サンプリングした掃流砂の確認です。 Returning to the observation site, we check the sampled bedload.

落ち葉などの有機物を除き、砂を取り出します。 The sand is removed by removing fallen leaves and other organic matter.

取り出した砂は、目のサイズが異なるふるいを重ねてふるいにかけ、それぞれの砂のサイズに分けます。 The sand is then sifted through a series of sieves of different sizes to separate it into different sand sizes.

掃流砂の観測は初めて見ましたが、とても勉強になりました。 多くのことを教えていただき、ありがとうございました。 This was the first time for me to observe bedload sampling using bedload trap, and it was a great learning experience. Thank you very much for teaching us so much.

森林科学基礎実習Ⅳが実施されました。 Training for Forest Science Basics IV was conducted.

8月22日から26日に森林科学基礎実習Ⅳが実施されました。 Training for Forest Science Basics IV was held from August 22 to 26.

担当教員から測量範囲などのせつめいを受けた後、演習林内に入り、コンパスとトランシットを使って測量をしました。 After receiving instructions from the instructor on the scope of the survey, students entered the forest and used compasses and transits for surveying.

初日はあまり進まなかった測量も、3日目になると機器の操作にも慣れ、テンポよく測量を進めていきます。 The first day did not go very well, but by the third day, the students had become accustomed to operating the equipment and proceeded with the surveying proceeded smoothly.

天気が不安定で4日目に予定していた砂出しは中止となってしまいましたが、みなさん無事課題はクリアしたようで良かったです。 Due to the unstable weather, the sand removal scheduled for the fourth day had to be cancelled, but everyone seemed to have successfully completed their tasks, which was good to see.
