I have never cared about anybody or anything in my entire life and the thing is, everybody kind of just accepted that. Like, ‘that’s just Jamie’. And then you.. Jesus, you! You didn’t see me that way.

“Oh that’s a good idea. It’ll be a lot harder to plan if we do it during the school year.” Iris agreed with a nod of her head. “That could be really fun.” She nodded her head. It was definitely something Iris was excited about. After all she was a lover of travel and had always wanted to make it out to Hawaii. “I am not sure if my aunts would want me gone that long but I could talk to them.”
Eric smiled when she agreed. He was getting rather excited about getting to go to Hawaii with Iris. He had gone once before, right before he had officially moved into his apartment in Santa Monica and he couldn’t wait to share some of his favorite spots with her. He thoroughly enjoyed their day trip to Santa Catalina so he couldn’t imagine how their longer vacation would be like. “I could potentially knock off a few days of sailing if needed, help make us go a little faster, especially if the wind isn’t blowing the best. But if that’s the case I might need to practice a bit cause I’m a little rusty when it comes to that side of me.”

Wendy gave him a little smile and nodded her head. “Thanks, Eric.” When he came back, she let out a little laugh, knowing he’d fully understand where she was coming from. Resting her elbows on the table, she cupped her face in her hands and let out a small little laugh. “I just have been working on this book for so long. And I believe it’s ready. I truly do. But I think that is what is so terrifying. If I believe that this is my best, and it’s not good enough, that’s it. This thing I’ve always dreamed about is just… over.”
Eric knew that feeling and he knew that feeling well. It’s exactly how he felt about the Nat Geo contest. “Well, I can tell you that there will be other ideas that follow even if you’re a little unsure about them. I can also tell you that you can always best your best as you grow and hone your craft. I’m sure the book you’ve written is fantastic. It’s now time to share it with others so it won’t keep pestering you until you do. Would telling you my own experience help? It won’t be the best pep talk ever but it has a decent ending so far.” He chuckled.

Looking up at the sound of a familiar voice, Wendy gave Eric a small smile as he approached and let out an embarrassed little laugh, shaking her head. Her hands coming up to rub at her temples. “You know, I just might.” She motioned to her open computer, glaring at the screen. “I’ve been staring at this email for… I don’t know… 15 minutes, maybe? And I can’t send it. I’m starting to get quite annoyed with myself for it.”
He chuckled lightly, nodding. “I get it. Sending a piece of your heart out to people is frightening. But I know you can do it. I believe in you.” He grinned at her. At the sound of his name being called he held up a finger before hurrying away to get his order. When he returned he sat down across from her. “Now I’m here to stay for all the moral support and to help wade through those writer woes.”

Eric had gone into the Teacup to get a midday pick me up. Just a small coffee, knowing if he had anything bigger he’d more than likely be up far later than he wanted to be. As he waited for his order to be ready, there was a pastry in the display case that just looked too good to pass up so he was also waiting for that to be warmed up, he noticed Wendy staring at her laptop with a look that he knew all too well. “Do you need someone to press that submit button for you?” He asked with a chuckle when he got close enough to her table.
Wendy’s eyes were locked on her laptop screen and her finger was hovering over the trackpad. She had been in this position at her little table at the Teacup for about 15 minutes. A few weeks ago she had finished her first official draft of the book she had been working on. She has read through it probably 30 times in the following days, and she figured it was as good as it was going to get without the eyes of a trained publisher. The only issue was she couldn’t get herself to press send on the email to send it out to the publishers she’s found. “Press send. Just do it. Stop being a coward and press the bloody button,” she said to herself, probably a bit louder than she had intended to, as she was quite lost in her own little bubble of thoughts.

Eric couldn’t help the large, grateful smile that burst across his features when Ariel had told him that she was proud. He was not happy that he could make someone from Florida feel that way towards him but also that they were able to build a great friendship after everything. “Perfect! Let’s go!” He exclaimed with a chuckle as he motioned for her to follow him to one of the restaurants he had found doing his series for the paper that in his opinion had the best cheese fries he had ever had. “So what’s been going on with you?” He asked.
ericxking:
“Thanks Ariel. That means a lot.” He smiled. He honestly was in a really great spot right now. He got to remain good friends with the redhead standing in front of him. He and his girlfriend were in their happy little bubble, reconnecting and working on being an actual couple this go around. Now his writing is seemingly taking off. “You got anything going on? Wanna go celebrate with the largest plate of cheese fries we can find?”
“Of course you know I’m super proud of you.” Ariel pointed out.. While their love story may not have been one for the ages it was okay. She had found her person and he his. Their friendship however she knew would last a lifetime they were too connected for it to not. “Uh hell yeah I wanna celebrate with the largest plate of cheese fries.” Ariel beamed excitedly. “That sounds amazing.”

Eric chuckled as he moved his arms under her legs so he could keep her steady as he stood to his full height and continued on their way to his apartment. “So I was thinking. Before school starts back up again we could take that trip to Hawaii. We could leave after the fourth and come back early to mid August if we didn’t want to speed up the actual sailing time. We could spend about a week there and then make our way back.”
ericxking:
“Well, we certainly can’t have that.” Eric laughed, giving her hand a squeeze before letting go. Walking slightly ahead of her, he crouched down, bracing himself for when she’d hopefully hop on. “How ‘bout a piggy back ride home? Can’t have your feet falling off now can we?” He smirked at her from over his shoulder.
“Well I sir, would never turn down a piggy back ride that would almost be criminal.” Iris giggled as she held her arms up so she could grab onto his shoulders. This night this wedding it had been an exciting and beautiful time and she was just glad they could celebrate it together.

“I am glad we got out of there when we did. I think my feet might fall off from dancing too much.” Iris laughed as she walked along with Eric swinging their hands softly as she did.

Hearing a familiar voice, Eric looked up and smiled when he saw that it was Arista. "Oh hey, Arista. Thanks! That really means a lot. I'm honestly still not over it." He said with a chuckle.

“I saw your name in the paper,” she commented with a smile. As far as she knew, Eric and her youngest sister were on good terms meaning she didn’t have to hate his guts. “That’s awesome. Congratulations.”
