Accidentally said "slay" to the Calc 1 professor I TA for and the incredibly straight-seeming guy in front of me helped me explain what it means

I cannot fucking STAND those people who write inappropriate picture books and read them on youtube shorts/instagram reels AND FUCKING TAG THEM AS CHILDRENS BOOKS. that said, I was very amused by another instagram reel of a doctor reading a board book called something like Baby Learns Organic Chemistry to her toddler, and I think something like that but for calculus would be very amusing and I'm half-tempted to write it.
#you could do this with any ''adult topic'' that's only such because kids don't get it#baby's first job interview#sleep debt#the endless cycle of chores#starting my kids on indirect trig sub the second they come out of the womb so they don't struggle in calc 2 like I did

I'm TAing for a Calc 1 class this semester and the professor is giving his students what I consider Calc 2 problems even though we're only in week 4. these are babies. they barely even know what a derivative is. they don't yet have the tools to comprehend an integral
#quin talks#this is LinearProf Crocs ftr#I really look up to him but he's being mean with the problems he assigns

My calculus professor started the very first lecture more than 15 minutes late yesterday by saying “oh, shit! Were we supposed to start at 4:15?” and proceeded to deliver the whole lesson without shoes on, revealing his Sprite-patterned socks

WIBTA for starting to use ε> instead of <3 to be quirky and different? I don't want my boyfriend to think an infinitesimally small quantity is greater than my love for him. He's a comm/theater major if that makes any difference
#this is /j#I thought about using ε> but then rembered what it meant so no#he wouldn't know but I would

My Linear & DiffEqs class was what prompted me to change my associate's major from geology to math
i'm curious do you love math that much
you inspire me to love math
Genuinely, yes. It’s a little weird; I mostly saw math as a necessary evil for going into science until I started college, but calc made me really fall in love with it and that’s only increasing as I get to higher and higher levels (yes, even differential equations). really hope you can start to find joy in it too!

Gonna see if I can spread "erm...what da sigma (lowercase)" about standard deviation
I may have Bs in Calc 2 and 3 and Physics 1 but I got a bunch of people in my school's math department to start saying "erm...what da sigma" about summation so who's the real winner here

My calc professor took his fucking shoes off again. I should be used to it by now but that is not the sort of thing one gets used to. If I stop blogging after this then you know what happened; avenge me
#prev I’ve now had multiple professors who take their shoes off to lecture#it might be a math prof thing
