The form a shapeshifter is born in tends to look normal, but their other forms often have weird markings or odd coloration, such as Dream's mane, George's claws, or Sapnap's entire body. It makes him both visible and suspicious, but at least it stops George from accidentally grabbing him while in cat form, as the hazard-orange coloration might as well be a vest that says 'DANGER: DO NOT CONSUME'.

Sapnap sighs, brushing at his whiskers again, knowing that eventually, Dream, George, or one of their other friends, is going to notice what's up and that Sapnap needs their help, but he'd like to get a move on with that - he has things to do today, things that don't involve being trapped in a flowerpot under a collapsed shed.
