How does the book club work?
We have set up a meeting time availability survey to find a time that works best for everyone who wants to join.
The book comes out May 7th. To give everyone some time to get their hands on a copy, we will kick off the book club in the week of May 20th.
If you want to join our Discord to chat about the book, don't hesitate to reach out to us here, or at @fakrichie or @lonnson, for the invite link!
Due to the adult nature of some scenes in this book, only people over the age of 18 may participate in this event.

My new favorite thing abt the fic I’m writing is that Little and Irving are turning into Crozier and Blanky friendship style 🥹
My favorite thing abt the fic I’m writing is that I get to make Koveyook just as much of a weirdo as the other characters. The moment I started writing from his POV he immediately became that specific genre of dad who gets too excited when strangers talk to him and ropes them into a long-winded conversation while his family groans and cringes in the background

Do we think Tozer knew about Hickey’s uh … sodomitious activities, pre-Irving’s death? Like do we think he knew Hickey was fucking another guy

I’ve seen some posts talking abt this weird little moment bw Little and Irving, bc ?? What’s even going on here lads. But I think the moment makes perfect sense when you consider the news they’ve just gotten about the provisions, seeing as Irving is the one who’s been in charge of those provisions.
He oversaw the inspection of the tins. It was his job to make sure all the unsafe food was disposed of, and then it was his job to do the math on how to reduce rations after the culling. We explicitly see him relating this information to the rest of command. And after all that, to find out it was for naught? That the tins he himself deemed safe were still killing them? That he’s been working and worrying about doling out portions of literal poison to his men for years, and he had no idea? Yeah, I’d probably look a little shell shocked too :(
And Little looks over to his friend, and sees him staring into space, obviously going back over all the time he spent agonizing over rations that were killing them anyway… of course he reaches out to try and bring him out of it. I read that interaction as Little telling him, hey, this isn’t your fault, okay?

obviously there's a difference between prisons and callout posts, but they have a very similar underlying logic, which is that people who have done harm must be punished and that ideally part of this punishment should be removing them from social life.
the idea behind prison abolition is that punishment is not an effective remedy to harm and that the way that we punish "criminals" in fact often perpetuates systemic violence--through disrupting people's lives and families, through making them legally vulnerable, through deliberately traumatizing them--and that you cannot achieve justice through violence, that punishment does not right wrongs.
if you truly do believe these things and you're not just parroting what other people have told you, why would you believe that this logic only applies to the criminal justice system and not the way that we live our lives and interact with other human beings? why would you think that it's okay for you to punish people you perceive as having done harm (regardless of whether they actually have) but it's not okay for the government to do so? is it because you think that your intentions are pure? because you don't think you're capable of doing violence? or are you just full of shit?

ok so obviously jirv had some deep seated issues with repressing his desires and religious guilt etc and of course I'd say most everyone reads him as a repressed gay/bisexual man and I agree with that. however. my question is do we think he was physically/sexually attracted to hickey specifically and that was part of the reason he was so afraid of him??? or was this fear more of like a general thing of hickey indulging his pleasure and everything that implies??? I'd love to know you guys (gender neutral) thoughts on this!!!!

Can you do something for me, please?
I want you to reblog this if you believe that two people can be very close and physically affectionate with one another, but still have a completely nonsexual, non-romantic relationship.
Even if the two people in question are capable of being sexually or romantically attracted to one another.
Because the friendship I share with someone I consider family in a way that transcends blood has been typecast as a romantic relationship ENTIRELY too many times, and I’m beginning to get sick of it.
