I want to attack and to lead my life with vigor, but I’m in the watching stage at the moment. Younger actors feel pressure to bring a pop to every scene, as the roles get bigger, I’m finding you can add layers and do less scene-to-scene.

“This spot is probably what I’ll miss the most.” Then, upon reflection: “I’ve been happy in B.”    It sounded like a preamble to farewells.

QA + Comments on Yuzuru’s SP performance at Autumn Classic 2017 (1)
\o/ - gladi
PCS 48.55, TES 64.17, TSS 112.72.  +3 GOE for 4S, 3A, sit spin.  9x 10 from individual judges. これこそ、打倒羽生、ね
Translated by gladi. Feel free. Sources are below alongside the quotes.
Yuzuru
“That I myself was able to properly deliver a good performance with this layout, that I was able to complete the SP with performance that is truly without a single mistake, and convincing even on the quality front.” (Daily) “Although I lowered the layout [difficulty], it is a difficult thing to bring the best in everything. In that sense, I’ve grown.” (Sponichi)
“Once he completed his performance, he opened up his arms with palms facing upward and nodded un, un (t/n - onomatopoeia for nodding, agreement.). About his feelings then––”Un, I worked hard,” said Hanyu. “Because I had never landed second half quads in a short program outside of ice shows, [it was like] ‘Look! I did it that well’” said Hanyu. About scores, he wasn’t able to immediately understand 112: “I was thinking ‘That much! 12 points, what is that…’” About his theme for this competition, “landing all the second half jumps. How to focus during second half.” (Asahi)
(t/n Sanspo posted a Q&A. Some overlaps but more context. Or I’m too braindead to combine but too awake to sleep…)
Q: Looking back on the performance
A: I was able to perform well, I did it without mistakes. I was able to finish this with performance that is convincing even on the quality front. In that sense I’ve grown.
Q: You performed thoroughly, with care.
A: Of course, there’s also that I’ve listened to this piece thoroughly. The Ballade No.1 that I’m hoping to express––from the quiet to the simmering part that wells up––I performed with an eye on that. I was able to do each and every part with care.
Q: What were you conveying when you spread your arms after the performance?
A: Like, “well done.” It was my first time entering the second half 4T with a turn and (with the 3T) arms raised. Although it was a Salchow, “I did it that well. Look!”––I [gestured to] Brian with that feeling.
Q: A piece that is easy to skate to
A: A program where I am very clear on what I want to express. That moment, I am able to express ‘myself at that moment.’ It felt pleasant [skating] it.
Q: You got 112.72, rewriting the world’s historically highest score.
A: Javier got 101. I [skated] with “my best is 110″ in mind. At that point (2015 GPF), I had two quads in the first half. I’m doing something completely different now. “Naturally, the scores too would come”––I had such confidence.
Q: [Anything to be happy about?]
A: It’s the first competition, and [hereon] I must compete at this pace. I’ve gotten the world’s highest scores twice with this program. I skated with confidence.
Q: Your self-confidence has increased.
A: Although I’m still just 22, considering my competitive career so far, I’ve done over 100 competitions. I would like to be facing tomorrow––facing this season––all the while remembering each and every one, recalling at what times I was able to bring good performances.
Brian Orser
“This is the first pancake. Hereon, we’ll add the sugar, adjust the fire, et cetera. In order to win the Olympics––we’re right now doing the things that will help that cause. (Asahi)
“Yuzuru was the conductor of both the audience and the judges.” (Hochi)
Yoshiko Kobayashi (JSF director)
“The steps [and all that] were the piano’s melody itself. I thought it was truly spectacular.” (Daily)
Noriko Shirota (ANA)
“Close to genius”––[Shirota raved about Hanyu’s beautiful jumps. Also said this with a smile, “Yuzuru Hanyu who, despite some damage, was able to deliver to such extent. Please praise him today.” (Daily)
