Moved cross-country…. Man has it been an eye opening experience. Such a different change of pace and definitely something that I needed and I couldn’t imagine having to try to do this alone. I’m so thankful for the amazing man who left everything behind just so he could be here with me.

it was just a brush of one hand with another. it honestly shouldn’t have even happened. someone who’s in prime condition, all the time? who never lets a hair go astray, whose clothes are pristine, not a hair or a fuzz or spec of dust to veil the crisp black. who walks with determination, as if every second counts and has a purpose….

bottom line, 

it shouldn’t have happened. 

his shoe should’ve been tied. but it wasn’t. 

and he tripped. and he tripped into pansy who was walking slightly in front of him, who bumped into daphne, who nudged blaise, who was carrying a potion, who turned around to scold daphne for nearly ruining his hard work, who was already blaming pansy for being ‘so clumsy,’ who huffed at draco for being ‘an arse’ and it was she too who shoved him back. just! at the very second hermione had decided to walk by, on her way to the cupboard to put away her supplies. 

and then it happened. the blip in the universe. when someone who had always stayed at bay and someone who expressed no interest to begin with crossed paths. that once in a blue moon occurrence, that really was never supposed to happen, but did. skin brushed skin, gently, for the first time. 

and then they locked eyes for only a moment, but it was enough. it was enough to halt time, if only for a moment, and while she had experience with time, this was much different. much different than anything on a chain in her dormitory.

no this effect was entirely different. 

and to make matters even crazier, he felt it too. but despite the curiosity in his racing through his blood, he sneered. and it was broken.

and she blinked. and told him to watch where he was going. and put her supplies away. and then class ended. and the day moved on. dinner came and passed. the sun surrendered to the moon. and as hundreds of eyelids drooped and silence fell on the castle 

neither could tune out the racing of their hearts, the thoughts flowing through their minds, and the possibility of what would come from that one rip in the universe. 

she bit her lip, he turned his ring and neither managed to sleep.

Bilbo was declared dead while he was away in the Hobbit (and had to do a bunch of paperwork to get declared alive again) but there’s no indication he was formally declared dead after leaving the Shire, even though most people assumed he had died.

Therefore I posit: having a missing person declared dead in the Shire requires the consent of their next of kin. Whoever Bilbo’s next of kin was at the time of the Hobbit (possibly Otho? I’m not sure) had him declared dead at the first opportunity but Frodo refused to ever do it.

Frodo had anxious hobbit bureaucrats knocking on his door every couple of years like ‘Mr Baggins… blease… it’s been 10 years… he was eleventy-one… can we fill out his death certificate yet’ and Frodo was like ‘absolutely not’.

Early on he genuinely couldn’t bring himself too but after a while it was more that he enjoyed irritating the local magistrate’s office than anything else.
