Elated to hear that my good friend, Bruddah Cliff, survived a horrific head injury during a surf trip to a remote part of the world last week.
His story emphasizes invaluable lessons about being prepared for medical emergencies & how shelling out a few extra bucks for traveler's insurance can save you from potential financial disaster if things go awry.
Get well soon Cliff!

Surfer Magazine met up with San Diego surfboard shaper, Jeff McCallum, earlier this year to discuss his career as a shaper and the importance of handshaping high-quality surfboards. His sleek and unique board designs have been fine tuned for the ever changing conditions and waves here in San Diego.

I contributed water footage of Kahana Kalama to this piece.

I shot this short film for Banks Journal with my good friends, The Lulls, earlier this year at SXSW. They just released a new single on Spotify called, “Good Night America”. Give it a listen here.

Earlier this spring I filmed this short film with my good friend Cliff Kapono in Santa Cruz, CA.
Vissla's Cliff Kapono met up with fellow Creator & Innovator, Travis Reynolds, at the world famous Haut Shop board building space in Santa Cruz, CA earlier this spring. What started as a brief chat about surfboard design, quickly resulted in the creation of a traditional, wooden alaia shaped out of paulownia wood and coated with linseed oil. From start to finish the process took about four hours, which gave Cliff the opportunity to test ride the alaia by lunchtime.
Surfers: Cliff Kapono & Kyle Buthman

Last month, I had the opportunity to direct, film, and edit this piece about my good friend, John Hook. John is an amazing photographer in and out of the water. He is based on Oahu, where he frequently shoots Pipeline by day and weddings by night.
He is one of my favorite people and I was honored to make this short film about him for Banks Journal .  John & Banks Journal collaborated on two, rad photo tees that are online here. Get yourself one while supplies last!
