Summer in Nigeria
So, you packed up your bags and decided to come down to Nigeria for summer? Whoopsshh! Whoopsshh! Whoopsshh! Ok, that’s me welcoming you in grand style with some gangans*. I can promise you will have an amazing time if only you know where to look for the buckets of amazingness. Not to worry, in this post I will be sharing 3 key things you should pay attention to for you to get the best of your holidays. 1. The Food For goodness sake, please don’t leave Nigeria without letting your tongue get lost in savouring the food. From the popular jollof to street food like akara, puff-puff, boli, etc. Don’t try to play safe and stick with rice or pastries or Chinese. Explore a variety of dishes. Your taste bud will still be thanking you for it in the next 1 year. 2. The People ”You have never really experienced a place if you did not interact with the locals.” I do not think that paraphrased quote is wrong. No, it is not because I want to hype the Nigerian people being one myself, but I absolutely believe that we are as all-round amazing as amazingness can get. In fact, when I have to travel abroad for long, I get angsty thinking about how I would miss the regular everyday Nigerian life, the sort of interactions I have on the road, my neighbourhood and just the whole vibes. If for any reason, you don’t do anything, let it not be that you did not spend time with the locals. The local market is a good place to start and if you are techy, turn on your location, log in to Eventbrite and go a mingling. 3. The Places If you only go to the local market, attend one or 2 events and never go on an adventure to any historical place, permit me to be Nigerian and ask you, wetin you gain? You don’t have to go to the hinterlands before you get some adventure off your boots. There is Olumo rock in Abeokuta, Lekki Conservation Centre (with the longest canopy walk in Africa), Oke Ado Awaye, Gurara Falls, Erin Ijesha, Obudu Cattle Ranch and so many more places. By all means, get adventuring! And if you still want to get a feel of hotels, places, activities and the sort of experience, Timbu has you covered. P.S. If you need affordable, comfy accommodation, check Hotels.Ng, and if you tell them from Ese, you might get a discount that will blow your mind. Don’t take my word for it, check it out yourself and by all means get on the next flight down here!
