Esmeralda's heart skipped a beat when she saw the family saved. She knew Phoebus would be in great trouble and wanted to repay this to him. After all, she was the cause of such chaos.
The woman couldn't understand the obsession of that evil man. The simply thought that she might become the object of his desires made her shudder. She noticed the family reuniting and crying of relief, which brought tears to the young woman's eyes. She would certainly do anything to help them rebuild their home.
Before she could do anything else, the guards were after Phoebus. Her heart sank as she saw Frollo ordering to shoot him. Arrows were now flying in the sky, making Esmeralda run as she feared for her hero's life.
Walking by the river, the woman hid from the guards who were making sure that Phoebus was gone for good. "Good riddance." One man spat as it made Esmeralda's anger build up.
As soon as they walked away, the woman removed her cloak and took a deep breath to get into the water and dive into it. It didn't take her long to find Phoebus, an arrow piercing his chest. She wrapped her arms around his body and tried desperately to swim back to the surface.
Wrapping an arm around his body and putting his arm around her shoulder for support, Esmeralda walked with difficulty back to Notre Dame, the only place where she knew he would be safe. To Quasimodo's surprise, the woman gently asked him: "Please.. Help me save him." The man looked at Phoebus and made a small arrangement for him to lie.
Esmeralda slowly set him against a pillow and put her cloak on him so he wouldn't get cold. Taking out of her pocket a small bottle of ale, the woman looked at Phoebus before caressing his face gently. "You could've died over there..." Her fingers pulled suddenly the arrow from him.
As the hours passed, Frollo's obsession with Esmeralda took a dangerous turn as the judge resorted to harassing and threatening everyone in attempts to find the woman.
"Sir, she's not here. They don't know anything!"
Phoebus shouted as the man harassed a couple and their kids.
"That may be, but they are harboring other Romany vermin! "
Frollo exclaimed, pointing to the nomads being dragged out of the family's basement.
"Which as you is illegal they must be punished."
The old man sneered force a torch into the captain's hand as the other gaurds barricaded the door.
"No, this has gone too far, Frollo. My job is to protect Paris's people, including the gypsies not to harm them."
Phoebus spat putting out the flame.
"If won't than I will! "
The mad man announced set the roof a blaze and mounted his horse to bucked off causing the remaining gaurds to rush to his aide.
With them distracted, Phoebus ran to the back the building forcing the door open, getting the family out safely.
"Go before they notice." He instructed before freeing the gypsies allowing the innocent to escape then being dragged back to Frollo.

Esmeralda sneaked out of cemetery the next day on and felt the need to know that Phoebus was alright. She was very conflicted between running away from him and making sure he was alright. There was affection growing in her heart, something she rarely felt, if she was honest to herself.
Hearing some of her people frantically talk about a couple and their children being interrogated made her heart skip a beat. She rushed after putting a cloak on to see with horror that Frollo was ordering Phoebus to set fire on a locked house with the family inside.
To her relief, Esmeralda saw that the Captain didn't seem to approve the orders. When Frollo set the house on fire himself and saw the disobedience of his Captain, Esmeralda knew that he would be in trouble. Grabbing a cloth and putting a stone in it, Esmeralda threw it to Frollo's horse, making the animal throw the rider off and cantering away.
Her heart was racing, hoping she saved Phoebus just the way the family was also safe, thanks to him.
"Come on, Djali..." She whispered as she followed to see if her hero was safe.
Phoebus glared at the old judge before glancing Esmeralda hesitant to leave in case Frollo or the other guards thought to try to harm her in his absent as the priest spoke up.
"Do not worry Son, I'll make sure your young friend will be alright."
He assured kindly as the captain of the guard nodded.
"Thank you, Sir,."
Phoebus replied bending down petting Djali.
" Make sure you two don't into much while gone. okay buddy?"
He mused before following Frollo and his goons out of the church.
Once sure they were truly gone. the priest looked back the gypsy.
"If you are looking for Quasimodo, take the last stairwell on the left he's usually polishing the bells around this time."
he instructed, grown to care for the young man and happy to others did as well.
After being scrolled for his "unprofessional behavior" Phoebus exited the judge's office and it didn't take long for the word of the young woman's escape to reach Frollo.
The simple chuckled with a shake of his head not surprised she found a way out and returned to his dwelling secretly both Esmeralda and the bellringer were alright.

Esmeralda looked at Phoebus as he defended her. Frollo's words made her shudder. How could a man despise some human beings so much? He looked at her and smirked. "But once she steps out of this church, she shall be arrested. There will be guards surrounding the place."
As he was about to leave, Frollo looked at Phoebus. "Come, I have some matters to discuss with you."
Esmeralda slowly stepped back as she looked at Phoebus. A part of her didn't want him to leave but the other part was telling her that this would allow her to find Quasimodo and make sure he was okay.
Slowly vanishing in the dark corridors, Esmeralda walked up the stairs to find the poor man in the tower. As both made acquaintances, Quasimodo helped her escape Notre Dame via the roofs. She soon landed on the floor with him and offered him a necklace that showed her location, should he ever need a friend in the darkest moments.
Esmeralda walked fast in the dark streets to reach the Catacombs and hide there for the rest of the night. Her heart was now full with a certain feeling she never had before. One that felt warm, safe. In that feeling, the name of Phoebus echoed in her mind.
"Well aren't you a lucky fella." Phoebus mused smiling at the furry protector before looking up at the gypsy.
"Oh my apologies Miss, I'm Phoebus, I just started working here."
He explained as Frollo and the other gaurds came rushing in.
"What? No, I didn't even know he had me followed I swear!"
The captain explained glaring at the old man.
"You can't touch her here, remember?"
He spat as the head priest appeared.
"The young man is right. The gypsy has declared sanctuary so no harm can come to her as long as she is in the church."
The elderly man ordered, making the remaining gaurds back away from Esmeralda.

“Esmeralda, marry me?” — Phoebus (a friend ;) )
"Marry you?" Esmeralda repeated those words as she looked at the man. All those thoughts have crossed her mind. The woman witnessed more than once proposals, young couples standing in front of the Cathedral. The man opening a velvet box with a gorgeous ring and making the woman cry of happiness. She had scene this scene several times and yet, never prepared herself to be proposed in her life.
"You.. You really mean this?" Esmeralda asked, emotion almost invading her voice as she thought tears in her eyes. "Of course I would marry you, Phoebus." She chuckled, wiped a tear from her green hues and just looked all shy. The sassy, confident dancer was now all shy in front of the love of her life. Never in her life would've she thought she would end up being proposed, living in a safe place and being genuinely loved by a man like Phoebus. This was filling her heart with warmth and love.
"I love you, Phoebus."
