Week eight review/23:11:18

The first trial run of my coding programme performance has taken place. Albeit clumsy, I felt it presented a plethora of ideas. It is not uploaded to my YouTube channel yet whether this will take place early this week. From this I consider number avenues that the work go down. I plan to potentially sneak the code for this program into other social environments to see how it works for other people. I would quite like to see who I could talk to to potentially move my code around Bournemouth? I believe my performance could step away from involving me and just the code. The idea being presented by this linear structure of machine decision-making.

I believe I must include more people in my performances. The more people I bring in the more engaged with the idea of a collective view of humanity being controlled rather than just me. This takes my focus away from the personal opinions and brings it into a more appropriate context for the work.

When considering the progress of my work, I was wondering whether I should change the code to potentially be more complex or different. I’m of the opinion that it almost feels perfect and as long as I have the appropriate setup I can accomplish a lot with it. In fact I think repeating the same code in all my performances as motif could potentially become a staple in the work and make its into a more coherent series rather than individual pieces of performance. The repetition of this gives the code a sense of personality and its return factor almost becomes entertaining. I believe I should feed humour back into my work as I feel it is lost in elements of the weird and wow. I work on creating with things to do in order to comedically display my ideas.

Week seven review/16:11:18

This week I compiled all of the programs and put them into one video, in addition to this I carried out a performance with these being projected across the spacers performing in. A lot of work is been done this week into the development and use of the technical side of the work. This includes projecting work, using recording devices and space, starting to develop code to potentially use next week.

I think the piece produced this week is a very nice amalgamation of all the works and I think that this work shows clear line of progression and development. I can see this work progressing in a very interesting fashion, In reflection I feel that’s a potential issue that my card is finding the space to performing as often the spaces I could be using will be booked and they will be booked weeks in advance. In order for my work to be a success it needs to be situated in the correct space club leave this as a control factor I must take into account.

Week six review/9:11:18

This week I created the final part to the program series. in this piece I was undecided on what I should do as I want to do something that culminated all my ideas and one. I eventually decided on creating a pile of leaves and then destroying. This video interacts with the environment in a very specific way as I create and destroy using part of it, in addition to this further chose to hide my face as I wanted to not allow human attachment to the video. Now be the time to reflect on all of the pieces together and I think that they have become a rather successful series of works. I decided that they would look quite interesting in a series through projector and think this will be my next step in the process.

In all of these works, I as the artist, have taken part in them. I think that in reflection this gives an interesting context of the work is in a strange way I’m putting a lot of myself into this work. This could be considered quite a personal body of work reflecting upon myself and how I feel everything is cyclical. I think art has the ability to investigate many different topics especially those who did not expect.

I enjoy the format I’ve used is well in these works, I think the more of these are produce more effective they will seem. I believe the integration of technology and my work is very important and how I will start to use things like coding and different lighting setups to illustrate my ideas and display my points.

Week five review/2:11:18

This week i produced my 4th performance piece. In this one i decided to obscure the face and body. In order to do this i use the steam of a shower to hide my form. This changed the piece from my original intention and adds an element of mystery to the piece. Obscuring identity adds a new dimension to the work. In reflection on this work i feel its feed back was the most interesting as a lot of people saw the piece as being very introspective.

I have been doing more research into the intricacies of the post-human. Reading on these matters has been informative to my practice. As i find out more about this field it excited me the possibility technology gives us. The way we are progressing as a species has us on the path for increasing automated parts of our lives and this is a context which i feel is interesting. AI is becoming more life like every day and soon we will become the ultimate creators. to create new life. creating art will no longer become a human exclusive activity. soon we shall have robots to do it for us. so i shall start that process now

Week four review/26:10:18

This week was a rather successful week, got around to producing program three. This required a fair amount of research however I found the editing the most interesting part. I believe it is given a new dimension to my work as I had the sudden realisation that I can slow down the time-lapse. Essentially this creates a slow moving picture real of me carrying out an act. I have now edited all of my videos to be like this and the ones to come will be edited in a very similar fashion. I feel that adds a visual aspect to the robotic nature of the act I was carrying out.

After creating this, and now have plans for the next piece. One interesting part of this work is that I Have obscured the face,  an identifying part of the human being. for this next program I will attempt to obscure the human form in a more subtle way. Only the do this through frosted glass or distance as I feel this works quite effectively. Masking the identify factors of human makes them become more of an object and allows an audience to see them as just another “pawn”  or irrelevant feature. 

Finally,  I have recently been recommended a group of artist called AES+F. the use a technique of video editing which I could potentially use in which they blend together to photographs and make one slide from one to the other. If you are not paying attention it will look like a moving image, however they are a series of photographs taken one after the other and I think toying with the idea of time lapses and making them regular videos but altered could be quite entertaining. A
