Despite being arrested after your participation in the “Madelene” ship to break the siege on Gaza, you did not back down. And today, you are sailing again, on the ship ���Handala,” defying oppression to send a message: Gaza is not alone. In a time of lost humanity and widespread indifference to the Palestinian cause, the Freedom Flotilla will never forget, and it will never abandon Gaza. Imagine being a parent and watching your baby’s formula run out, knowing the next can is so expensive it may as well not exist. You search desperately for alternatives—but all you have is a bit of rice and some cow’s milk, not meant for infants. You have no choice but to feed it to her , praying it keeps her alive, even as you watch it make her sick.

This is the reality for Hossam Al-Qazzaz in Gaza. His ten

-month old daughter, Habiba, is now in the hospital—weak, undernourished, her tiny hand wrapped in gauze and tape, an IV doing the job that formula should have done.

Hossam, his wife Hanan, and their four children—Bashar (9), Hani (8), Diana (4), and baby Habiba—are displaced once again, forced to flee after their area was designated an active combat zone. The little shelter they had left among the ruins of their home is now unsafe. They now sleep in a tent, with no walls to protect them and no roof to shield them from the bombs or the elements.

Despite it all, they cling to hope—hope that they’ll survive long enough to escape. Hope for a day when their children can live in peace.

But survival alone has become a full-time battle. Over the past few weeks, Hossam has faced death multiple times just trying to access aid. He’s seen his brother-in-law and nephew severely injured in front of him. He’s made dangerous trips to aid centers, only to return empty-handed or narrowly escape shelling. He does all of this while also caring for his family and elderly parents, both in poor health.

Gaza’s infrastructure has collapsed. Jobs have vanished. There is no electricity, no clean water, and no stable access to food or medicine. Even basic items like rice, cooking gas, clothing, and diapers are becoming luxuries, as prices skyrocket due to the Israeli blockade and severe shortages. Baby formula, when it can be found at all, costs over $60 a can—an impossible amount for a family with no income.

Since this war began, the Al-Qazzaz family has endured the unthinkable: being bombed out of their home, attacked by wild animals in the night while displaced, suffering from malnutrition, and living in fear of each new dawn.

And still, they keep going.

Those who go searching for flour often return carried on shoulders—either injured or dead. Think carefully. Imagine how I must carry my injured daughter Lynn, while my sick mother and father crawl in fear.

Gaza was once alive with the sounds of cats in the alleys. Butterflies danced between them, and shadows played among lemon and olive trees. But little by little, all of that disappeared. The trees died of thirst after the enemy withheld water from us. The cats died of hunger — no leftover food, no hearts able to feed them. Even the birds abandoned this place, disappearing into the smoke that covers the sky day and night.

As for the people — they are still here…

Sharing the little polluted air left, breathing the scent of gunpowder. The fire they light for cooking burns what remains of their dreams. Children sit around the firewood, counting stars they do not own and wiping away endless tears.

A little girl held her mother’s hand and asked:

“Mama, do you think one day we’ll hear the cats again…

And plant a new lemon tree?”

The mother smiled through her tears, held her close and said:

“Maybe… maybe in a place far away from the sounds of missiles and smoke,

We’ll find life again — we’ll plant, raise, play, and laugh.”

Then she lifted her eyes to the sky and to the kind people everywhere and said:

“We beg you… By God, we ask for nothing from this world but safety for our children.

Help us migrate to a place where there is water, air, and trees…

We just want to survive and protect our little ones from the death waiting around every corner of this exhausted land.”

Things the media doesn't talk about... People have begun to fall to the ground, not from bullets or shells, but from hunger. That a young man loses his balance in the middle of the road because his stomach is empty. That hunger is ravaging immunity, stealing strength from the bones, and extinguishing the light in the eyes. That you curse the world every morning, and along with it this hunger, you curse the helplessness and the impotence in your hands. And no one listens... The enemy rules the siege, the world rules the silence, and the media is preoccupied with matches, races, and cartoons; not with the intestines of Gaza that are being ravaged by hunger. I won't tell you, viewer, to let me live in your house, and I won't tell you not to eat so you can feel us. I'm only saying from my heart, which only has a few days left and will never move again, that you donate anything again, anything
