In Honor of Kyoto Animation

After these horrifying news, I’ve decided to do a recap on KyoAni’s main titles from their foundation until now as a homage for its staff, especially the victims and their families. We don’t know where the studio will be going from now, but we do know of its journey until the present moment. There were hits and there were misses, but it overall deserves appreciation now more than ever.

I’m suing the U.S. government for causing the climate change crisis, and I'm 22.

My name is Kelsey Juliana and I’m suing the United States government for causing and accelerating the climate change crisis. I’m 22 years old and I’ve been a climate activist for more than half of my life.

I know that young people like me, and others who have yet to be born, have a right to a safe climate system. The constitution guarantees all Americans the right to life, liberty, and property. But how is anyone supposed to live a life of freedom amid a climate crisis? My own government is violating my constitutional rights by its ongoing and deliberate actions that cause climate change and it’s not right.

I, along with 20 other young people from around the country, filed a lawsuit against the federal government in 2015, called Juliana v. United States.

We’re not asking for money. Instead, we’re asking the court to order the government to develop and implement a National Climate Recovery Plan based on the best available science.

This plan should end the reign of fossil fuels and quickly decarbonize our atmosphere so that we can stabilize our climate system before it’s too late.

The longer we go without climate recovery, the more we risk allowing our climate to spiral completely out of control.

And the climate is spiraling out of control, no matter how many politicians claim we’re experiencing normal fluctuations or, worse, a “hoax.” All of the expert witnesses in our lawsuit say that we are currently—already—in the “danger zone” and an “emergency situation” with only 1°C of planetary heating. Allowing the planet to heat up any more is not safe for our species, as well as so many others. And according to the Trump administration’s most recent environmental impact statement, the planet could heat as much as 7°F before the end of this century. We cannot allow this to happen because we simply will not survive.

We originally filed our lawsuit against the Obama administration. That administration tried to have the case dismissed, but the judge ruled in our favor and found that we should be allowed to go to trial.

In 2017, the Trump administration inherited the lawsuit and it has done everything in its power, employing every conceivable tactic, to deny my fellow plaintiffs and me our right to present our case in court. This administration is so fiercely attempting to silence our voices.

At this point, every level of the federal judiciary—the U.S. District Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court—has denied the Trump administration’s efforts to have the case thrown out. Yet it will not halt its efforts to avoid standard legal procedures and confront us, the nation’s youth, in court.

Our trial is officially scheduled to begin on October 29, 2018 in Eugene, Oregon.

What we’re asking for could change everything.

My fellow plaintiffs and I want you with us as we head into the courtroom to confront the United States government for knowingly violating our constitutional rights. Supporters will hold rallies in every state around the country, so if you can’t be with us in Eugene, find your local rally here.

Dear teenage writers,

Are you ever sitting in class and you get a great idea for a story, or a character, or you figure out how to mend that plot hole that’s been bugging you for weeks?

Well,,, of course you pull out your phone to not it down in your notes so you remember it… And the teacher yells at you for being on your phone.

I have a suggestion for you; buy a notebook. Seriously, I know you probably hate transferring handwritten stuff onto your computer/whatever, but it works like a charm. Teachers don’t yell at you for writing in a notebook, so give into the notebook lust and buy yourself a pretty one, carry it around, and write down ideas/concepts/etc. In it.

You’ll save so many great ideas this way, and likely won’t get yelled at. This is especially helpful if you have anxiety.

Kim Namjoon

Focuses on how happy talking to your and Skyping you makes him feel rather than how sad he is that you’re gone. Sends you a ton of pictures of his outfits, and the videos of the squirrels he takes at the park, and what he was up too. Eagerly listens to your stories about tour life and lives to make you laugh, even if it’s at his expense. Has a calendar next to his work desk to count down the days until you come back.

Kim Seokjin

Texts you a lot, sending you updates on what he’s up to, what your friends back home are up to, and a ton of questions about what you’re doing and seeing on tour. Expect a lot of:

“Y/N, what are you seeing? Is [where you are] cool? What’s your favorite city?”

and most importantly,

“What are you eating???”

You send Jin so many pictures of the food you guys eat on tour, and he is enamored by all the different things you’re eating and doing.

Min Yoongi

He’d be fine at first, sending you texts asking about what you were doing and how you liked the cities you were visiting, but one day it hits him how much he misses you being so near him. The video calls from tour are sporadic, so he seldom hears your voice unless its a recording or an interview. He throws himself even deeper into his work, trying to find something that’ll just distract him from the ache of missing you. He stays up later and later, writes a ton of lyrics, melody lines, and hooks, and tries to produce as much music as he can. His sleeping patterns are just absolutely crazy, because he’s adjusting to whatever time zone you’re in as well as working odd hours. When you get back, the two of you just cuddle and nap together for days on end - or at least until one of you adjusts back to a normal sleep time range.

Jung Hoseok

Even though Hoseok’s pretty independent, he still misses you terribly. Tries not to worry you with how much he actually misses you. During video calls and phone calls, he’ll joke around - “I miss you so much, y/n, I might actually die” and “My beautiful, amazing y/n, how I’ve longed to hear your voice!” - but in reality, his heart aches without you. He’d probably try and hang out with his other friends and spend time with his family to offset the pain of missing you, but once you come back, you won’t be rid of him for a while.

Park Jimin

He misses you so much, and it is obvious. Before you left, Jimin insisted on taking tons of photos of and with you, and he made them the background image on his phone and computer. And that big portrait of yourself that you’d given to him as a joke? It sits on his desk, and he looks at it every day and misses you dearly. He listens to all of your songs and watches all of your interviews just to hear your voice while you’re gone, because calls and Skype sessions are so rare. He texts you constantly, sending Selcas and pictures of cute dogs that he’d seen that day. When you come back, he refuses to leave you alone for a couple of days, following after you like a little lost puppy.

Kim Taehyung

Skypes you a lot. Even if he technically should be asleep, he willingly sleeps odd hours in order to talk to you on tour. He wants to know how everything is going; what your favorite place to perform was, what’s your favorite city, what cool sights are you seeing. A lot of whispered calls late at night, with him barely able to stay awake and you whispering into the phone with a raspy morning voice, and vice versa. Sends you proofs of his latest photos, asking which one you like best, and gushing about a lot of photography terminology that you don’t understand.

Jeon Jungkook

Pretends that he doesn’t miss you as much as he actually does - but his brave facade quickly melts away after a week or two. Even though he likes to try and act tough, he unknowingly lets slip how much he misses you; how it’s not the same frequenting the cafe you two love, or how movie nights are cold without you next to him, or how he edits a ton more videos because he needs something to do without you. Asks what kind of fun things you’re doing, and sends you short, stupid videos that he’s edited because he was thinking of you. Ends every phone call with an exaggerated kissing sound.

also I think it’s important we realize that being nice to children needs to also apply into their teenage years.

when I was 17, five months after my dad had died in a house fire and I lost my home and we nearly ended up homeless, I was lucky enough to go on a school trip to the bahamas to study the reefs. This was my Ultimate Dream, as an aspiring marine biologist, and I couldn’t believe it was coming true. It was the only good thing to happen to me since the fire, the only thing I’d genuinely looked forward to.

But I had ADHD and could be too loud (by then I was good at not talking out in class so I was only loud when we were ALLOWED to be) and a little whacky. My humor was “weird,” I had asthma, and to top it off, I wasn’t pretty.

When we got there, the outpost where we were staying was run by college students, probably getting their graduate degrees, all aged about 22-26. And they saw us all as their age, even though some of them nearly had a decade on us.

And since they saw us as peers rather than children, they felt comfortable making judgements about us, and they decided I was weird and annoying.

And they were mean to me. They made fun of me, deliberately made me feel excluded and odd in front of each other and my own peers, and sometimes when I’d say something in class they’d make a face, say “Ohhhkaaaayyyy,” and look at each other knowingly while they pretended they were even trying to hold back laughing at me. They avoided calling on me during classes, didn’t want me participating, and generally made it obvious how annoying I was to them.

I even noticed that another person in my class was just as weird, if not more, than I was, but she was gorgeous. And to people looking at us as adults instead of children, that mattered.

And it ruined everything.

Another adult on the trip started paying attention and thinking perhaps there was a reason the people in charge didn’t like me. After all, what kind of adult is mean to a kid for no reason? So one night at a festival when she saw me take apart my inhaler, she misunderstood what it was and told the teacher in charge of our trip she’d seen me using drugs. I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere alone for the rest of the trip, not even the bathroom at the airport, despite my friends and a few other peers defending me.

I was mortified and ashamed and ended up lying there in bed every night, wondering how something I’d looked forward to so much could end up so terrible. I wanted nothing more as a child than to be good and win adult approval, and somehow I’d made all the adults there dislike me. I thought it was my fault.

I’d love to see all of these people again now, as an adult myself, and tell them what I was going through.

Tell them, “did you know, when you made fun of me all week back then, when you made me feel untrustworthy and called me a liar, I was grieving the loss of my father. I went away to try to stop thinking about him and the fire and losing my home and everything else, just for a week, and you stole that from me? You ruined that for me?”

BTS reaction: Performing a duet with idol crush

Jin: Learning that he will be singing a duet with his idol crush, Jin will be nervous in the beginning. Once he met you and you both started to practice for your performance, he would turn confident and would help you with your vocals or for anything you may need. When you are waiting backstage for your performance, he will tell you some of his best dad jokes to help calm your nerves. 

Suga: When Suga learned that he will be performing a rap featuring his idol crush, he will be ecstatic! What better way to show his crush he is genius than writing awesome lyrics and bars for their rap performance! When he showed his crush his lyrics, and they responded positively and said they love it, he knew that his crush was going to be his soon. Backstage before the performance, he would unknowingly confess. “Let’s kill this performance! Don’t be nervous, since I really like you, I am positive the crowd will love you, too. And if they don’t, haters gonna hate”

J-Hope: When he learns he will be performing a dance duet with you, he will be on his knees praying it will be a sexy dance duet. His prayers were answered and you both started to learn the romantic choreography. He would give you pointers and help you with you steps and positions just for an excuse to be closer to you. Backstage, he would see you in your outfit and tell you how beautiful you look and how grateful he is for having this opportunity to dance with you. 

Rap Monster: When Bang PD told Namjoon he set up a duet with rap-mon rapping and his idol crush singing, this 23 year old would turn into the biggest fanboy ever! During practices, he would get caught staring at you multiple times as you were practicing your parts. He would take every moment he could to compliment you. Backstage before your performance, he would tell you that you two make a great team and that he wants to make more music together with you.

V: This boy would be over the roof in excitement! You two would be singing with each other and adding some simple choreography to help the performance flow. The second you start singing, he turned into a cute fluffball and gave you non-stop compliments! Overtime, you started to develop a crush on him, I mean how could you not?! Backstage before the performance, he would play around with you and give you hugs and you decided that you should confess to him right then and there. This cutie went on stage with the biggest smile ever!

Jimin: When he learned you two would be performing a contemporary dance duet, he was so happy. He has been crushing on you ever since he saw you enter their company as a trainee and he saw how talented you are in dance. He couldn’t wait to impress you with his dance skills during practices, too. He would always try and help you with matching your movements with the slow beat of the music, but he would secretly really enjoy the physical contact you two made when he was trying to help you. Before practice, he was talking to Jungkook about how much he liked you, but little did he know you were secretly listening in.

Jungkook: When he learned that he would be singing a  love-song-duet with his idol crush, he was over the moon but also very nervous. For the first couple of rehearsals, Jungkook was surprisingly more shy than you! One day, you asked for help with a dance move and he started blushing but helped you nonetheless. Backstage before the performance, he was a smiling mess. Jimin came to visit him and you just happened to overhear Kookie say “If only she knew the lyrics I sing are my feelings towards her”
