Still gushing over Daisuke Takahashi’s Pale Green Ghosts free program. His attention to detail and movement remains unrivaled. The jumps sadly weren’t quite there but this has me so excited for his switch to ice dance!

I feel like there’s a lot of random theories and criticism flying around about Zhenya’s boot problems at Nationals. Here’s two tweets from Ashley Wagner and one from Jackie Wong that give some insight into elite skaters and their boots. Not saying that they’re speaking for Zhenya or all skaters, though.

For those of you who think Yuzu was the first to do a spread eagle - axel - spread eagle, I present Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbao’s side by side double axels from 2003 Worlds! Look at the synchronization and the way he looks at her on the landing. Even more impressive since she had just injured her knee and hip earlier that week. If you have four minutes to spare watch this program because it still brings tears to my eyes 16 years later.

Lol watching Eteri and Sasha just leave Daniil to sign some autographs and make him deal with her giant teddy bear is both badass and adorable.

At this point Daniil should just add “giant teddy bear carrier” to his resume alongside choreographer and coach

Zhenya’s statement! Awwww she’s so classy and this is heartbreaking :( we do all love figure skating and YOU! Sending good vibes to Zhenya and hoping for an amazing season next year!

zhenya @ us: “I know how much you worry about me. I understand how upset and disappointed in all this situation, in me, in my boots some people are right now. To say honestly, I don’t even know how to express what I feel at the moment because...i don’t feel good to put it mildly. It’s the first time in my career when I have to withdraw from a competition. I couldn’t imagine that I’ll ever be in this situation. But it’s an experience that’ll make me even stronger. I’d like to say that I love you all very much. I’ll continue working and we’ll see each other many many times in the future... Because we all love figure skating, right?”

Update: Evgenia said in an interview that she won’t be back until the Russian test skates in September, will take the time off to work on quads, and will be skating to music from Cirque su Soleil’s Alegria next season. Ahhh the skate gods are cruel but I hope Med comes back with a quad salchow and shows everyone who’s boss!

Woke up and heard that Zhenya WD due to her broken boot. :( so sad but a good call, no need for her to risk injury. Anyone know if she’ll be skating at Russia Cup Final?

Valeria Shulskaia did it again! What a wonderful free skate and especially considering she isn’t a skater from a big club with a bunch of funding. I hope Rus fed sends her to a challenger next season!

I love when I get to watch skating live because then I get the joy of discovering skaters like Valeria Shulskaia! She had the unenviable position of skating after Aliona’s incredible short but more than matched the task. Just look at this back spiral into a smooth double axel; she’s a skater that can really hold a position.

This may be the best triple axel Aliona has ever done!! Just look at that flow out! I’m going to go out there and say they should’ve just rounded her score up to a 90....
