Brynn wasn’t often used to otherworldly visitors. Sure, they did show up now and again, here on her mountain, and she offered them the same hospitality that she offered any wayward soul who passed through the area.
However, a portal opening in one of her linen closets was new.
It was Erro that sensed it first– alerting her witch companion with a soft growl and a jerk of her ghastly head towards the linen closet beside the guest bathroom. When a figure emerged from said closet, Brynn and Erro were waiting down the hall, patient and silent as their new guest examined his surroundings.
“I have found that I prefer the term ‘homey’ over ‘quaint’, but yes. My cabin is quite simple, I suppose.” Brynn’s eyes went over the dark mage’s shoulder for just a moment, and where the portal once was– there was nothing but fluffy towels folded neatly on racks like nothing had changed. Of course the portal was still there, but nobody needed to know that.
Returning her unflinching gaze back to her visitor, she tilted her head slightly as she spoke up once more. “May I ask your name? Or perhaps what brought you to this world?”
Nothing about this place suggested significance or importance. A dusty little cabin, a single person and her animal companion, and nothing suggesting the possible presence of a powerful relic or legendary weapon, or at least not in this location.
“It’s Eclipse -- a name everyone will soon learn to bow down to! You’d better remember it.”
Ignoring her second question, Eclipse strode down the hall, scanning over the rooms and finding his way to the front door. But the minute he yanked the door open, a strong gust of snow shoved itself into his face, and instantly he forced the door shut again, slightly caught off guard by the harsh weather and shivering a little from the cold. Would it be smarter to find warm clothing and set off to explore immediately, or wait out the blizzard? For all he knew, the snowstorm outside could just only be getting started. He’d seen worse in El Nath.
“You! Tell me. Are there any towns nearby?” he demanded, brushing some snow off his hair as he turned back to the new world natives. “Or better yet, a map of this area?”

“P-P-Please don’t kill me! I won’t close it! I won’t tell anybody! I won’t move! Just please--!”
“Good. You know what’ll happen to you if the portal closes before I tell you to close it, don’t you?” Eclipse shot a widened glare into the pitiful, wriggling mage’s eyes.
“I won’t close it! I won’t close it!”
“And if you’re lying to me,” he continued, eclipsing the amateur mage’s view of his surroundings with his gleaming red eyes, “I can promise you that your fate will be worse than death.” Before the mage could respond, Eclipse released his chain spell strangling his hostage and leapt through the portal without another word.
He found himself in a quaint little wood cabin, emerging from a closet inside it. The glassy, whirling portal remained behind him, projecting a muddy image of his home universe on the other end. Whether or not this new world would be of any use to him was something he would have to find out himself.
It appeared the place the portal dropped him into was occupied: he quickly caught sight of what appeared to be a young woman, flanked by a wolf spirit. Must be their abode.
Instead of greeting the two, as he crawled out into the open, Eclipse felt over the place with his eyes, and ran his fingers through the air as though sifting through silk. The air here had much less mana than Maple World. It would likely limit his use of magic until he could get used to it and ration his mana use accordingly, but it suggested that magic had a weak presence in this world and wasn’t used often (completely opposite from home).
Despite that, Eclipse would assume the otherwordly was common enough here, evidenced by the wolf spirit. Finally, he turned his head towards his first new acquaintances in this new world.
“Quaint place you have here,” he said simply, wearing a sharp grin while twirling his staff in one hand. His voice slithered like snakes.
