sorry for not being here;; i haven’t been writing much or doing really anything i’ve been really depressed to the extent that i barely left my room the past two days and i’m already on the verge of tears again. i don’t know what’s going on or why this is happening, i just have zero energy for anything. i’ll be in and out on discord though i may not respond.

RELIGION.

mamoru is jewish. after exploring a few religions, he settled with judaism, one of the oldest established religions. judaism was widely practiced in the earth kingdom, though there was no official��religion (it was more like a spirituality).

he does keep kosher to an extent (not eating pork, not eating dairy and meat at the same time), though all-in-all is a rather lax jew. finding a synagogue is rather hard in japan, so mamoru took to self-study in his free time to learn the tanakh himself. during his time abroad in england, he would attend services on friday nights with some of his friends.

psa but if you write a character with nazi-motifs, you’re not anti-nazi. you literally condone them every time you fucking write. and if you’re not about to go out there and punch a nazi, maybe fuck off and go take a history lesson.

this shit isn’t new. the rpc has always had problems with those who roleplay characters that perpetuate harmful ideologies in real life. it’s why there’s countless discourse about roleplaying rapists, slave owners and, yes, roleplaying characters that align with a facist narrative. when you roleplay a fictional villain who happens to be a killer with fictional victims, no harm is being done. no one is at risk. when you roleplay a fictional character with very real ideologies that is responsible for killing millions and that real people have to endure on a daily basis, there is a problem. when you attempt to humanize these characters, when you force yourself to empathize with these characters, there is a larger problem.

some characters should honestly be left alone. there’s a difference between a problematic character appearing in a film to contribute to the narrative drive of the film versus bringing said character to tumblr where they’re completely removed from their source material and thus has no purpose outside of the source context, in which case they exist solely for your entertainment on tumblr dot com. if your knee-jerk reaction is to feel slighted by the critique of this, then you need to step back and analyze where your priorities are.

        Small  Lady  didn’t  play  favourites.  She  loved  both  of  her  parents  equally;  but  it  would  be  a  lie  to  say  that  she  didn’t  look  forward  to  days  when  it  was  just  her  and  her  Papa—he  always  made  their  time  feel  a  little  extra  special.  Her  small  hand  slips  into  his  and  she’s  walking  fast  ahead,  dragging  him  behind  her  with  poorly  contained  enthusiasm. 

         ❝I  want  ice  cream!❞  she  declares,  to  the  shock  and  surprise  of  absolutely  no  one  who  knows  her  personally.  It  is,  after  all,  her  favourite  treat;  especially  after  long  school  days.  ❝–And  maybe  we  could  check  out  the  new  aquarium  that  opened?❞

               “is that so?” a soft laugh as he reached for her hand, leading her down the street. “well, i think i can remedy that issue.” there was always trepidation for the future lurking in the back of his mind, of what crystal tokyo might bring, when it would happen, what consequences it would bring. how he wished to shield his daughter from that fate, but usagi shut him out whenever he tried to bring it up.

               “ice cream and the aquarium, hm? that sounds like a lot of fun. good choices.” at least for now, he could live in the moment. it was the best he could give his small lady.
