Team Meeting #3
Tumblr media
For our third and final team meeting the gang met up at yogurt creations. As you may notice from the picture, Ross is missing. But, I ran into him at subway a couple days later so I was able to catch up with him and talk one on one. During our meeting at yocre, we caught up and shared how our lives were going pre finals week. Then we dove in and shared our opinions about each others speeches during round 3. The only person who say mine was Harrison, so I was able to talk one on one with him and get an idea of how to improve my speech before the final life philosophy speech. He shared some tips and tricks that he learned from Professor Truch and talked me through how to make my speeches better.

Speech Round 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reflection: Since I had to make this speech up, I didn’t have the chance to record it. From what I remember my speech was very mediocre. I find that I have the ideas formed but I cannot word it in a way that allows me to express myself. Because this was a long speech, I relied more on my speaker notes than I would have liked to and found myself reading sometimes. There was a lot of data. Having an anecdote and a live demonstration helped ease my nerves because I could speak directly to my audience just as if I was talking to them outside of class. I need to be able to have a bit more fluidity in my speeches, especially in my conclusions. However, I found my transitions were good for once and I did give this long speech extemporaneously which is something I am not used to.

Team Meeting #2
Tumblr media
During our second team meeting, we decided to meet up right outside of shake smart. Josue brought popeyes and some of the other freshman got a few things from the avenue. For the first part of our meeting we caught up with each other and just talked. Next, we went over everyone’s speeches and gave in depth feedback instead of one thing we liked about their speech. This time was a no hold back kind of constructive criticism where we could really tell each other what they did right or wrong in their speech. During this time I got great feedback on my speech.

Round 2 Speech 2
Tumblr media
Reflection: As I continue my speech rounds, I think I am making progress in becoming a better speaker. I keep making the same simple errors but I find I am making them much less frequently after watching the videos back. I think I have to practice my speeches some more and with that I think my fluidity, eye contact, and filler language will improve. I should have developed my ideas more, when I ended my speech I went on explaining my ideas to you when I should have said that in the speech. I think my eye contact was fair for a how to speech. Again, I find myself getting bored of my own speech because of my voice, maybe it is just because I am watching myself. I don’t know what to do to change that, but, next speech I could play with my tone and pitch and see what happens.

Speech Round 2.1

Feedback:
Tumblr media
Reflection: After watching my speech I think I improved in regards to my eye contact, partly because I had to read part of a novel. However, I find that I bore myself when I give a speech, with the monotonous voice of mine I find that I cannot pay attention. I need to spice up my voice, in tone and pitch. Next, I saw that I was clearly not prepared, although I gave that speech on the spot, I should have been prepared a bit more, I needed to practice it a few more times. Also, I need to change the content of my speech, there was a part of my reading that was extremely boring and I just read through it, I now know that I can cut and trim parts to make my speech more interesting.

Team meeting #1
During our first team meeting, we gathered at campus market and feasted on whatever we wanted. During our talked about our speeches in depth instead of just saying what we liked about said persons speech during feedback time in class. We were able to discuss what made our speeches good and what we needed to work on more. Multiple people suggested that I needed to work on my body paragraphs and becoming more fluid as I speak extemporaneously. I also gave actual feedback to others instead of just compliments.

#6 Reflection
Although I think I do well during my introductions, throughout my speech I found myself getting bored. My attention was definitely there in the beginning but as time went on my ideas were a bit jumbled and I was using a lot of filler language. When watching myself, I started to focus on my physical actions rather than what I was actually saying. I think I need to develop my ideas a bit more clearly and write down my topics so I do not get as lost when delivering an extemporaneous speech.I need to practice my speeches more because I lose what i’m going to say and use filler language when I am trying to find what I was saying. To be more entertaining I think i need to involve the audience a bit more because that is what I find grabs the attention of others, and makes me more comfortable and entertaining. Last, I think I need to practice the eye movement of a “W” or an “S” as suggested by a wise person, I think it will create a more personal feel for my audience.

#3 How I will accomplish my goals
I have two goals. I would like to be entertaining and be able to give extemporaneous speeches.
I will accomplish my goal of being entertaining by actively being involved with my audience. There are a few things I can do to do so. First, I can ask questions and give examples. Second, I could share anecdotes with my audience to gather their attention. Third, I should practice my breathing, everyday I will check in and just monitor my breath. Last, I should interact with the audience to keep their attention.
I will be able to give extemporaneous speeches by making my presentations casual. I want to practice my speeches on my friends and receive feedback from them to make sure it was interesting. I want to practice speaking on the spot to divert myself from reading speeches and not making eye contact. I want to be organized but not memorized if that makes sense.
