kiribaku + hurt kirishima

in his third year while fighting a villain with fatgum and tamaki kirishima was gravely injured

kirishima took his eyes off the villain for a moment to check on tamaki when he was hit with the villains quirk. the villain was able to manipulate metals and earths.

kirishima was helping tamaki up and out of the villain’s path.

the villain saw and instantly aimed an attack at kirishima. a sharp metal rod straight through the chest. even with unbreakable the rod was too strong and broke right through. just barely missing his heart.

the fight was being televised. the entire class aizawa and present mic were watching.

help was still some time away and kirishima was losing blood at an alarming rate. his vision was beginning to blur. his blood ringing in his ears. he could not focus and was extremely disoriented. he began to cough up blood. he couldn’t hear tamaki shouting at him to stay awake nor could he hear fatgum shouting for paramedics as he continued to fight the villain.

the last thought kirishima had before blacking out was how he wished to see bakugou.

when he woke again he was in the hospital. everything hurt. the lights were too bright. his mouth dry and stale. his chest was aching and tight. he wheezed and struggled for air. his limbs like lead.

bakugou was by his side asleep and holding onto his bandaged hand.

he was unconscious for nearly a week put into a medically induced coma to allow his body to heal. the doctors said he was lucky to be alive. he had flatlined on the surgery table twice. they called in recovery girl but there was nothing she could do with kirishima having no energy left.

the week he slept was touch and go. the doctors still unsure if he would wake.

when he twitched his hand bakugou woke. he sobbed onto kirishima’s chest. he went from yelling at kirishima to never do anything like that again to confessions of love. bakugou pressed tearful kisses all over kirishima’s face mindful of the oxygen mask over kirishima’s mouth and nose.

bakugou had stayed with him the entire week. only going back to the dorms to shower and eat when aizawa forced him out with promises that he’ll watch over kirishima while bakugou was gone. classes were still in session but none of the teachers were mad when groups of students missed to visit kirishima instead.

the entire class was so thankful that kirishima was awake and healing nicely. the class came in the day after kirishima woke with food and gifts and praises of his bravery.

and it all went over kirishima’s head. he was thankful he was alive. he was happy he could see bakugou and his friends and family.

but kirishima could not help the negative thoughts. could not help but blame himself for not being strong enough. for not being reliable enough.

he kept thinking of all the what if’s. what if tamaki was hurt more or killed because kirishima couldn’t protect him. what if fatgum died because he did not have kirishima helping him. what if because of his negligence civilians got caught in the cross fire.

bakugou noticed the change in kirishima. he wasn’t talking as much. wasn’t smiling as much. he was unresponsive to bakugou’s touch. bakugou could tell from the glossed over look that kiri was lost in thought.

even after kirishima was cleared to leave the hospital and returned to the dorms this change continued to take affect. he would go to bed early. he stopped hanging with everyone. skipping out on meals and class bonding time.

and bakugou was at a lost as to what to do. it pained him as he held a crying kirishima in his arms after a rough nightmare. kirishima refused to talk about it. and bakugou’s words never reached him. he would whisper into kirishima’s hair as he soothed him that kirishima was not to blame. that it was not kirishima’s fault. that he was so brave to save his teammate.

and then one night. bakugou ran to kirishima’s room after hearing him scream himself awake from another nightmare. bakugou held kirishima in his arms. pressed kisses to his tear stained cheeks and told kirishima of all his failures. he told kirishima about the sludge monster accident and how there was nothing he could do. about being kidnapped by the league and having to rely on others yet again to save him. he told kirishima about how he blamed himself for all might’s retirement. he told him about how an elder lady died because he couldn’t get to her in time. how if it was not for deku a villain would have gotten away. bakugou told him it all.

after kirishima whispered to bakugou all that he has been thinking and feeling since the accident. how he blamed himself. how he thought he was not strong enough. that how could he become a hero if his unbreakable broke so easily. and all the what ifs.

and bakugou held him through it all. they stayed awake the whole night. bakugou kissing him every few minutes and pressing praises into his skin.

it still took a few weeks for kirishima to fully recover both physically and mentally. he still had bouts of nightmares or relapse into that negative mentality.

but bakugou was there to wipe away his tears. his classmates were there for support. fatgum and tamaki turned into mother hens basking kirishima is worry and care.
