Independent studio session
I brought my own ideas to this session to generate practical responses. I worked into photographs I had taken using sharpie and I also sewed into the photos using thread. I could use these outcomes in the magazine by scanning them in. It adds more of a creative element to my work. Overall I think they turned out successfully

Photography workshop - using coloured gels
For this workshop I took pictures using coloured gels and styled my own outfits. I tried to style the outfits around the theme dystopia so to do this I used different gloves on my models and a corset belt aswell to add my own twist on dystopian style. To make the photos more interesting I experimented with different angles and different high fashion poses. To do this I looked on Pinterest as inspiration for different poses. I was really pleased with the outcomes from this shoot and I know I can take the photos further in my magazine by editing them with type, backgrounds and retouching to help enhance the photo. In this workshop I also experimented with drawing with light using light pens.

Nadia Lee Cohen
Nadia Lee Cohen was born November 15, 1991.she is a British art photographer filmmaker and self portrait artist. she is inspired by British and American cinema of the 1950s ,1960s and 1970s. In 2011 Lee Cohen attended the London College of fashion and began studying photography. In 2013 she continued to study for a Masters degree in fashion photography at London College of fashion. meanwhile spurred on by her love of narrative in cinema and cinematic photography ,she collected 1960s and 70s props and furniture and began constructing sets. Lee focuses on and accentuates the glamorous decadence of the 50s and 60s in America to create supernatural characters of her visual fiction. Nadia graduated from the London College of fashion in 2015. She has worked with many famous brands like Mac cosmetics and playboy. she is also known for creating successful music videos with artists like A$AP Rocky and Kali Uchis ft Tyler the creator. The influence of America in the 1950s and 60s is clear in a lot of her work .For example the idea of stereotypical 50s housewives, she turns the housewives routine into a supernatural world in her photos. She takes every day scenes and turns them into sci-fi looking worlds. I like the colour schemes and styling she uses in her work. I could take inspiration from her styling and use of props and sets and create similar scenes in my own work.I could also take inspiration from the 1950s and 1960s style hair and make up and fashion.Or I could take inspiration from films I like which Nadia also does.

Independent research for foiling pictures - Andy Warhol silver clouds and silver factory
Andy Warhol was an American artist film director and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop-art. He was born on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and died on February 22, 1987 in New York City. Andy Warhols silver clouds had its first unveiling at Leo Castelli gallery in New York on April 2 1966. The metallic pillows glistened under the lights and the steely appearance captivated viewers.Warhol created the peice in order to give up painting, so he created a painting that floats. Warhol was also known for his silver factory. Warhols years at the factory were known as the silver era. The factory was completely covered in silver paint and tin foil. I decided to choose Andy Warhol for my independent research because I feel that his work definitely links to the foiling lesson. Andy Warhol used foil to enhance and create art similar to how I enhanced my own photos by adding foil to them. His work is very inspirational to me and I think it’s very clever.

Foiling pictures research- Martin C Herbst
Herbst presents classical portraiture in a new and unconventional way. As one moves around each piece, it’s mirror finish offers a variety of reflections, including that of the space it is in, where no two perspectives are alike. The once two dimensional portrait immediately becomes sculptural, even interactive, an experience that Herbst likens to discovering “hidden treasures” , the title of the series. His work links to my work I created because he used foil to enhance original images like I did with my own photos.

Foiling pictures research - Steph Wilson
Steph Wilson was born in 1992. She is a photographer and videographer based in Brixton london. Specialising in commercial photography the artist likes to hide symbols in her creations. Her favourite themes? “Sex,women, anger and naughtiness”, she says. “I am aware that fashion photography is potentially quite an evil tool and I use it as an excuse to make fun of it. My symbolic references point towards it and other issues in society that need changing”. These particular photos I have included above definetly relate to my foiling lesson because of the excessive amount of foil used in her photography. She used the foil for styling and as a background rather than adding it to the photo after. Where as I used the foil to add to my photos after.

Foiling pictures research- Gareth Pugh spring summer 2011
Gareth Pugh is an English fashion designer born in 1981 and is now 39 years old. He currently lives and works in London. This specific collection is very metallic and creates a sci fi feeling. The looks are very armour like and have articulate shapes. There is definetly a metallic/foiled theme in this collection. This collection inspired my own foiling work where I added foil to my own images.

Foiling pictures research- Alberta Ferretti A/W 2014
Alberta Ferretti is an Italian fashion designer and dressmaker. She was born in 1950 and is currently 70 years old. This collection by Alberta Ferretti is themed around a beautiful wonderland of wilderness. The collection was very earthy and elegant with a muted colour pallette and flashes of foil creating pretty reflections. The collection featured a lot of texture such as feathers, tree bark textures, floral embroidery and more. Her 2014 autumn winter collection definetly links to my foiling lesson. Her work helped to provide inspiration for my own work where I used my own images and added foil onto them .

Gustav Klimt Glistening “Golden Phase”
Klimt developed a symbolist style inspired by the art nouveau and arts and crafts movements. As his painting style became increasingly modern, his approach to material did too. During the movements early years, Klimt began incorporating gold leaf into his works, making the start of his careers most successful period. Klimts work is definetly relevant to the foiling lesson and helped to inspire my work in the lesson.

Foiling images
I have produced a series of prints using using the foil technique. I used my own images from my outdoor photoshoot and projection photoshoot. The foiling helps to enhance my photos and add more to the background aswell. I experimented with different techniques one was bonda web. Bonda web is iron on glue and allows you to create accurate shapes on the images. Another technique is brushed on glue for a more freer approach. To allow this technique to work the glue must be dry first before I ironed of the foil. Another technique was black and white photocopies, the foil sticks to the darkest areas. I considered my colour pallette and how to make it relate to my theme dystopia when I was foiling. To develop one of my peices further I sewed into my image to add another element and make the peice more interesting. The most successful technique in my opinion was the brushes on glue. I think it looked the most effective.

Edits of photography
Here are some of the edits and layouts I have created so far for my magazine. In wednesdays lesson at college I created these pages on Indesign using the photos I took on independent shoots at home and the outdoor/projecter photos from Tuesdays lessons. So far I’m really pleased with how it’s coming together however I think I could develop it further by adding some text or graphic elements.

Outdoor photoshoot pictures
These photos are from my outdoor photoshoot based on the theme dystopia for my magazine. I was inspired by looking at fashion photography similar to this on Pinterest. The photoshoot definetly helped to develop my location styling skills and also my photography skills. I could develop these photos further by editing them on photoshop and creating cool magazine layouts on indesign by adding graphics and text. Overall I’m happy with how these photos turned out. I also included a contact sheet I made in photoshop of some of the photos I took.
