Sports and Marketing
Sports and the role that they play in our culture is an exciting thing that brings many people together. You have teams who are working together towards a common goal, a front office of executives that are trying to put teams together and fill the stands, and then you have the fans who support those teams by going to games and cheering the team on. Sports are unique because they can bring thousands of different people together in one place for one common reason and I have enjoyed being a part of this in various aspects. I have been on sports teams, I have cheered on other sports teams, and now I want to chase the dream I have of being an executive for a sports team. My favorite thing about sports and being on a team is the relationships that they form. This aspect of sports and my love for the game of basketball has inspired me to be look into sports marketing. Marketing is an exciting, constantly changing field, and mixing it with an exciting industry like sports would be a really fun career path. Seeing the influence different marketing campaigns have on fans is exciting and something that would be fun to be a part of. The Timberwolves have honored Prince by making jerseys in honor of him and apparel that sports his purple color on the team’s logo. Campaigns like this one have brought out big crowds to the game and working with a team to try and fill the stands for a team would be an incredibly fun job to have.

Year at Community College
My path through college has been different than the paths of most college students. Granted, everyone has a different path, but the traditional way to go through college is to choose “the school for you,” and attend that school for four years, then graduate. It is fair to say that I have done things a bit differently. After trying a school out for one year, I was unsure of the path I was on and where I wanted to go. Because I felt that way, attending community college was a great option for me that I decided to pursue. Generally, classes in community college tended to be easier. There were a few classes that were challenging, but nonetheless, the year helped me grow and helped prepare me for two more years at a university. The reason I was prepared is I had to take the initiative to improve myself. I had extra time with the easier schedule, and I chose to fill it with healthy study habits, a strong work schedule, a consistent exercise schedule, and an abundance of time to read my Bible and spend time in a college ministry group. As a result, the year taught me how to manage my time well and how to make the most out of every opportunity. As classes have grown in difficulty this year and as the year has gotten hectic, it has shown that the year in community college shaped me to be successful.

Explaining my Work Ethic
“Every day is a job interview.” This quote is one that my father has been saying for as long as I can remember, and it has continued to stick with me. One can never know how the actions you do or connections you make today can impact and affect your future. I have another memory of one of my counselors telling a story one evening at summer camp. He was going to interview for a student manager position with the University of Minnesota football team. On his way in he held the door open for a young woman and the head football coach happened to see that act and decided to hire him before the interview even started. This story reinforces my dad’s quote, and it is what introduced me to hard work. Doing the right thing to get rewarded is not what my motivation has been as I have grown up, but rather I work hard and am determined every day because it is what God calls us to do and it is the right thing to do. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” These stories and this verse motivates me to have a unique work ethic and I try to see how I can outdo myself every day. I am not focused on the big picture, I am focused on being better than I was the day before because that is what I can control at each current moment. I try to go above and beyond in each thing that I do because it is honoring to God. The higher purpose is what continues to motivate me and is what helps me maintain that work ethic whether it is in school, work, sports, or even chores around the house. I strive for that work ethic because of the honor it brings to God and because of the fruit that is produced from it.
