Took out an old G-nib I've had for years and drew the first one with it. It's so nice and feels pretty good to draw with

I thought maybe a practical resource follow up on "how to find job" might help
Some illustrators find clients through illustration agencies and while I have no experience myself, I have heard good things. I advice looking into testimonials and experiences of artists in agencies as there are many of them, some may be expensive and ineffective and beware of scam agencies. Different agencies also have different vibes so agency that works for one artist doesn't necessarily fit another person. Just be sure to check their track record and do a bit research
Also here is an impressive, always updating spread sheet about animation/games jobs that is legit, run by Chris Mayne. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eR2oAXOuflr8CZeGoz3JTrsgNj3KuefbdXJOmNtjEVM/edit#gid=0
And if all social media feels kind of poison and you'd have to choose, I do think Linkedin works. It's what it's designed for anyway. It is corpo ghoul town so buckle up but it is possibly the most direct way to just look for work.

How to find a job? 😭 my illustration skills are fine, but every company keeps ignoring my applications. Nobody want a junior, I guess…
It's true that junior positions are rare. Lot of people are job hunting at the moment, too.
Cold emailing is worth the shot, it's normal that most companies don't reply though so don't be discouraged. No matter the experience artists will get rejected many times and it's not necessarily implication of lack of skill
I've come across most illustration work through social media or back when I did conventions a bit. Twitter mostly but I think any of them can work, art directors are often looking at instagram, linkedin and tumblr. Pinterest as well but I personally don't use it. I would rather stab my left hand than go to tiktok but I know it works too, some artists are greatly successful because of it. I won't go in depth with social media stuff but I think it is enough to use it for yourself, being representative of your work and yourself, and connecting with people you're interested in. I've never looked into how algorithms work and it's just recipe for depression and fast burnout, so just use it in your own way that doesn't consume all your time and energy.

My askbox is open and I'm happy to help if anyone has questions about visual development, concept art, illustration jobs or my own work. I'm just one picturemaker doing my own thing obviously, but I felt like it's worth putting out that I am glad to share whatever knowledge or resources that I've found helpful.

I really love the beatifiully dreamy, slightly surreal feeling your painting have. They make me want to think about the places theyre in.
Thank you, I really appreciate it. It is something I try to put in my paintings, so I'm happy to hear it shows.

Thank you. I just woke up early to come finish an illustration that is being a real headache, reading your comment gave me a good chuckle

Just so you know, tumblr is currently using art for AI training and the only way to stop them is to go into your settings and turn it off 'third party sharing' manually (on each of your blogs)
Hey thank you for messaging me. I noticed this yesterday and opted out. I am very skeptical it will have much practical effect, but it is better to opt out in any case and spread the word. I had a few thoughts, this button thing has been a move by some other sites as well. Deviantart did it but from the look of it definitely just seemed like PR move to protect the company (DA is now pretty much haven of gAI spam and they have their own model as well). The button option conveniently washes their hands from any data misuse, as in 'hey if your data was used in training we don't know how that happened, because you opted out so not our fault'. But it's what we have so definitely opt out.

Hi, Eva! Love your works so much! How did you develop your shape language? Do you also simplify shapes as what we see in your illustrative works when you do studies from life/movies/any resources?
Hey thank you for your message! Glad to hear you like my works When I study I will definitely simplify the subject just to be able to draw/paint it, but I try to be aware of not stylizing too much from the get go. I do have my own biases though and there's habits and sometimes strong inclination to draw certain way. Like the way I use some tools I'm familiar with. I usually make decisions on the fly, like sometimes I want to draw very stylistically from reference and other times I think there is something interesting but I set out to figure it out while I draw it. I think when I really try to be focused and observe earnestly what I see it helps me to imagine better and come up with new shapes and ideas. I've noticed it's important to me to not expect too much from a sketch or exercise, or it turns into something performative where the focus shifts from my desire to do things and figure it out, to expecting someone to see it and being evaluated. Anime and feeling of movement whether it's animation or dancing and acting have definitely influenced a lot in my shape language. I'm aiming for certain level of clarity and design without losing freedom. I always feel like it's kind of battle between emotion and discipline in myself, or having sort of contradicting approaches too. I think I have distinctly western influences from storybooks, golden age illustrators and animation but I don't particularly follow western animation design principles like line of action or squash and stretch. I always feel like I don't want to say "too much" or that some expressions and designs feel too descriptive to me. Not to say I don't like or admire it in other people's work because I do, it's just that I have strong sense of what feels just right amount of ambiguous to me that is hard to explain. I think anime character shapes are more defined by symbolism and graphic composition of the drawing in frame than western characters and that appeals to me. It is more kin to comic panels whereas western animation would be more closely kin to film composition. Obviously there is variety and overlap but that is what initially influenced me.
