i've been thinking so if tattoos and stuff aren't a thing and everyone gets their stuff from the council, how much self expression is there, both with the people and their homes? like is everything either pastel or sad beige minimalism or can people get a bit silly with it?

to a small extent, MC can make special requests, but whether they'll ultimately be approved isn't guaranteed as resources are scarce

houses are all painted happy and bright colours, so you can imagine the neighbourhood looking something like this:

👀👀 I wanna do crack theories too!! So I think MC is like, a commissioned robot copy, replacement thing of River's dead lover 🤖 and all the pics around the house are the real lover, and that's why they're so happy but we can't remember☝️🤓 and then River hates us for being so close to the real thing, but not actually the person he wants 💔 and it's gonna be a real weird feeling for River if MC "cheats" on them cuz MC has the dead lover's face, smoochin' some guy (gender-neutral) 😘💀😨 and River's route is gonna be super angsty, bitter-sweet cuz we're competing against the dead, "real" love that MC is but an imitation of 😔😭

If the IF is anything like the materials that inspired it, there will eventually be an escape to the "real life", whatever that means. And when it comes to that, honestly, I am ready to treat the Spouse like the enemy they seem to think of MC as— because why would MC think they are anything else with how their life together had been? They are not even friends!

MC won't entertain the idea of the Spouse perhaps being cold because they too know the reality of their situation and are not happy to be forced into it, because MC thinks otherwise, the Spouse would have tried to make the best of a terrible situation instead of just being miserable all the time and taking it out of MC. Not a huge fan of being used like a convenient scapegoat and all that.

Basically, two people with drastically different life views and crisis management attitudes, forced in close proximity, with the consequences of such attitudes.

Not romancing the Spouse, but I am definitely rotating them and their "relationship" with MC like a rotisserie chicken in my mind. <3

I don't think River has "taken anything out on MC", to be honest. they keep their anger quite contained, but I guess it can still be felt? they've made it crystal clear that they just want to be left alone; they're different from when they first met - more closed off. I could be biased though aha

THEORY TIME:

There was The Disaster™ in this universe (because most dystopian stories have one) and MC lived through it vividly as a teen and in sense of panic they lost their BFF the officer and ended getting saved by Evermount community, got assigned role and all, got married but they were awfully depressed and irritated all the time and it got worse and worse (that's why their spouse hates them, because they were angry at the spouse all the time for no reason). And then council found out probably did something like lobotize them so they forgot about their life before.

it's 1950s-like, I wouldn't be surprised-

Wow first this looks awesome! I'm super interested!!! This looks like it'll be so cool!! Second- I'm so curious about spouse being ENEMIES to lovers, They must seriously hate MC and I wanna know why soooo baddddd and the friend system, ahhhhh I wanna know about our friend!!!!

a little more info about the friend system: each friend carries a small notebook around their neck or shoulder. from Mon - Sat, everyone is obliged to jot down how their friend is acting, feeling, and if there are any oddities or if everything's the same as always. on Saturday, after the final Mingle of the week, before MC steps into their home, they place the notebook in front of the door for it to be collected. by Monday, it'll be in front of the door again, ready for the process to repeat itself.

it's a system designed to foster a tight-knit community where everyone looks out for one another.

I just wanna start by saying asolutely no hate no shade to your character by asking this! I'm just curious bout the possible dynamics! 🩶

1) With River, can we also be indifferent or even dislike them? like they don't even seem to look at the MC y'know 😭 and I know it's enemies to lovers, but will MC have to be the one constantly perusing River or will River also put in the effort?

2) Is this spoilers? I'm getting that vibe 😀 but how did these two even get married 😭 and why hasn't MC just left them? is that even an option? I'm unfamiliar with/never watched "Don't Worry, Darling" so if the answer is in that movie, sorry I've never watched it;;;;

And double sorry if you already answered questions like that? I haven't been able to find the answer on your blog if you did (Thank you in advance though!!)

1 -> at the end of the day, each homemaker has a duty to uphold. if MC chooses to act indifferent or even abrasive towards River, behind closed doors, then that's between them - just never forget a homemaker's purpose! yes, MC will have to do most pursuing, up until a certain point, due to the reasons for River's dislike for MC. after that, it's...complicated. River's route is a rocky one, but I think each romance is a little turbulent

2 -> how MC and River met: it was pouring one evening; MC stood outside, struggling to pop their umbrella open, leaving them completely soaked by the rain... until it stopped. a stranger - River - suddenly stood beside them with a black umbrella, shielding them both. they struck up a convo, clicked, and one thing led to another: they're married. as for why they haven't gotten a divorce: it's simply forbidden!

Is the money earned by the breadwinner considered to belong to both of them equally or does the MC need to ask for permission to buy things? Are River and MC frugal or can the MC buy things like clothes, books, beauty products, jewellery, etc. within reason?

Evermount doesn't adhere to the capitalist concept of working for income and struggling to survive; that's not its focus at all. everyone contributes to maintain Evermount's safety - that's the number 1 priority. so, the working spouse doesn't work for money but to keep the neighbourhood safe. also, every personal request will be provided if deemed appropriate

long story short: money is not a concept in Evermount, so monetary problems don't exist

the council member's glasses have a round design and actually fall into the earlier years (20s - 40s)!

each household consists of only worker and homemaker, so MC hasn't seen any domesticated or wild animals roaming around! since MC hasn't ever encountered any, who knows ahahah? all MC ever sees is the wrapped-up and sealed produce

Second part of Chapter 2 is focused on world-building, lore, and Éoin's life as a mortician.

Secondly, a list of small things that I added:

Around 15k words were added to chapter one and 12k to chapter two. The demo now has a total of 100k words;

Now the choices that will unlock the madness and fury domain are labeled.

Added time and location to each memory jump to better situate the reader.

hi! are things like tattoos, piercings, and hair dye permitted in evermount, or are they supposed to keep their natural appearance? also, is there some element of choice with clothes, or do people have uniforms of sorts? im so excited for this if, i hope writing is going well!!

what are tattoos? - MC

some have their earlobes pierced and some don't, but that's about as far as it goes piercing-wise. in MC's neighbourhood, most people either have black, brown, blonde or red hair!

yeah, there's a selection of regular (modest!) clothes to choose from, so no uniforms. but MC's closet consist of only "happy colours"
