insanely tragic how physical touch seems to be a love language for catra but she’s also averse to it to an extent because of years of physical abuse

adora is the punch your feelings out guy but if anyone’s gonna actually try and fight you it’s catra and it’s so funny and an underrated part of her character in my opinion. she has an entire episode dedicated to fighting and robbing people in the crimson wastes. she clawed one of her leaders eyes out at age six. do not let the cute cat ears fool you.

catra’s (previous) accountability issues are so interesting because she’s abused her entire life regardless of what she does, so she internalizes that she has no control over her life. and said abuser’s mantra is essentially that she is inherently worthless and a nuisance.

once she does gets a semblance of control she’s incredibly (self) destructive as a result of said abuse. but it can’t be her fault, most circumstances in her life weren’t her fault so why would it change here. it can’t be her fault, because that would mean that shadow weaver was right at the end of day. so she shoves down the guilt, throws herself into work and doesn’t sleep because the weight of her actions catch up with her there. shadow weaver did say that the only thing she’s good at is running away, but it ends up catching up with her anyway.

modern au catradora (and canon to an extent) is just weird girl 4 weird girl. adora is that one girl that never grew out of her horse phase and catra was definitely wearing cat ears to school as she picked fights with people that gave her bad vibes

bittersweet symphony by the verve going viral again has made me realize how much of a catra song is….the repeated “i can change” being her in the first few seasons, suppressing who she was before to become the best villain she can possibly be to “i can’t change my mould” because she’s miserable despite becoming and achieving what she wants (season 4) so she relearns who she is at her core; a loving person whose connections are what matter most to her. even in the end when she tries to leave the rebellion compound she goes back to warn and save adora (and sends melog to keep their friends safe) because she can’t change 🫠

underrated part of catra’s arc is her having to relearn to have faith in humanity, like she knows the horde is wrong and the rebellion is objectively right but she’s so deep in self-preservation mode from type of systematic as well as interpersonal abuse that she can’t look outside herself to do the right thing for the sake of it. At her core her actions stem from being a horrifically physically abused child soldier in flight or fight mode trying to escape said abuse as well as prove her abusers wrong. her tunnel vision is what causes her view of adora and their relationship to be warped, aka the one positive thing she had growing up so it’s so good that through that she allows herself to fight for good and believe that the world can be good despite all of the pain she’s suffered through.
