Unpopular Opinion: The mother who gave up her son may have done the right thing
The dad also did the right thing by keeping the child.

The story goes that the mother divorced her husband and left her son when she found out that the child has Down Syndrome. I know a few people effected by Down Syndrome. I grew up with a girl whose sister has it. They are a very happy family. Good for them! Its awesome to see families thrive despite bumps in the road.
However, I do feel that some people are not cut out to raise children with such a disability. Perhaps Leo's mother needed to put herself first when she realized she would have a difficult time raising him. Maybe it would be detrimental to her own mental health, thereby harming the family unit as a whoie. Maybe its better that she left the family for everyone's interest. She must love her husband and child enough to know that's not a place she belongs. I think that is perfectly okay.
The father too, deserves praise because he stood his ground and wants to raise the child. Maybe for him, it does not matter. Maybe he can handle that kind of situation. This is probably tough for him too.
I only hope that people praise the father more than shame the mother.
After all, their existence is their own. I am a person that believes in full autonomy of our own lives. If we decide we are in a situation that is not favorable for our own health and those around us, get the hell out of there.
So, in conclusion: go dad, for raising the child and taking on the challenge to do it alone, Go mom for knowing whats right for yourself. I wish everyone involved good luck with their future endeavors and families.
