Nepal-India Border Issue

If you use Twitter in Nepal, you will see hash tags such as #backoffindiamedia, #NepalIndiaBorder and #backoffindianfakemedia as trending which are accompanied by trends such as Arnab Goswami and Lipulekh. It shows that Nepali Twitter users are more concerned about the issue concerning Nepal-India border than the coronavirus pandemic.

The recent row with India is over the southern neighbour building a road through Lipulekh, a strip of land in northwestern Nepal, to connect India with Kailash-Mansarover in the Tibet Autonomous Region in China.

According to the Economic Times, ‘in an apparent indication to a Chinese role, Army Chief Gen M M Naravane on Friday (15 May) said there were reasons to believe that Nepal objected to India laying a road connecting the Lipulekh pass in Uttarakhand at the behest of someone else even as he asserted that the Army is dealing with incidents of face-offs with Chinese military on a case-by-case basis’.

On 20 May, Nepalese Government unveiled new political map including Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura inside Nepal borders. With the addition of 335 square kilometres of land in Nepal, the total area of Nepal takes from 1,47,181 to 1,47,516.

A Nepali citizen and an Indian actor Manisha Koirala tweeted supporting Nepal’s efforts. When some of Indian media reported it in connection with China’s influence, it raged not only Nepalese but also some Indians. Similarly, a row of discussion of Dr. Minendra Rijal, a political figure of Nepal, with Arnab Goswami, an Indian TV host has sparked the social media.

The Editorial in the Kathmandu Post dated 21 May 2020 says

‘Finally, the straw that broke the camel’s back: India decided to ignore Nepal’s recent calls for dialogue to sort out the border issues, and then decided to inaugurate a new road development through Lipulekh, in the midst of a pandemic. India’s moves in this whole debacle have been insincere. Even if it claims total sovereignty over the disputed area, it must as a good neighbour sit down and open a dialogue with Nepal on the matter. Yet, time and again throughout history, it has used Nepal’s disadvantage and the leaders’ partial silence to completely ignore the claims’.

Whichever ways the media raise the matter, Nepalese leaders time and again say that both the countries are ready to resolve the issue from diplomatic talks.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak

Know About the Coronavirus

The current outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that was first reported from Wuhan, China, on 31 December 2019 has now become a global agenda. As of 4 March 2020, authorities have confirmed more than 92,000 cases of the virus of which more than 80,000 are in China. More than 3,000 people have died globally, the vast majority in China, BBC states. The World Health Organization says the virus appears to particularly affect those over 60, and people already ill.

While Covid-19 coronavirus infections have significantly slowed in China, they are rapidly spreading around the globe, prompting countries to step up measures to control the spread and the UN health agency to warn that “this is no time for complacency.”

A study published a few weeks ago by researchers at the University of Oxford, the University of Toronto and the London School of Medicine and Tropical Hygiene had identified Kathmandu as the 11th highest risk city and the third least-prepared country to handle an outbreak, the Kathmandu Post reports.

Kuragraphy

Kuragraphy, first used by Robert R. Desjarlais, in his book entitled Sensory Biographies, as an ethnographic tool is a popular term among the Nepalese anthropologists, both the tutors and students. Its popularity in Nepal is actually credited to Dr. Janak Rai, a much loved Reader at the Central Department of Anthropology, TU, whose several posts on Twitter and Facebook, and research lectures echoed the term, Kuragraphy.

With its popularity among the practitioners of anthropology in Nepal, Amit Tamang, who holds M.Phil. in Anthropology from TU started a YouTube channel with the name Kuragraphy, aiming to foster the field of anthropology in Nepal by telling the stories from the grassroots and through discussion on the issues and interview with academicians and researchers from the field of anthropology or the field that anthropology is interested in. The channel is getting popular, and the team are putting continuous efforts to better it in terms of both content and the use of technology.

About Dharan

Dharan is a major city in eastern Nepal, in the Sunsari district, located between the foot of the hills and the edge of the Terai. It serves as a trading post between the hilly region and the plains of Terai region. It was once the location of a British Gurkha recruitment center, which was opened in 1953. The recruitment center closed in the last decade, and the only remaining center is in the town of Pokhara, westof Kathmandu.

History

Since 1584 AD till 1774 AD, Dharan-Bijaypur was the capital city of Morang Kingdom of Limbuwan. It was also effective capital of the entire Limbuwan region or ten Limbu Kingdoms which was also known as Pallo Kirant Pradesh. Before King Prithivi Narayan Shah’s conquest over Bijaypur,the capital of Morang Kingdom of Limbuwan, the capital city of Kiranti pradesh (zone) was the base-land of the establishment.Dharan was known as Bijaypur until 1950s when the settlement grew on the southern portion of Bijaypur and took its own name as Dharan.

City, which is connected with the historical importance of Vijaypur started its development since 1985 BS. Then Prime minister Chandra Samsher established Chandra nagar (now purano bazaar) and primeminister Juddha Samsher established Juddha nagar (now naya bazaar). City abstracted its name after “Dharan” (nepali word) a rectangular hollow dug under the ground and a low platform upon it for sawing logs with a big saw; one person on the platform and other below it. And, after the establishment of Dharan city, logs used to be widely split uphere in “Dharan”.It took its present shape when Vijaypur village panchayat and Ghopa village panchayat were merged into Dharan municipality in 2035 BS.

National Examination Board (NEB), Sanothimi, Bhaktapur is in the final phase of publication of Grade XII result.

The Grade 12 (XII) exam was held from Baishakh 15 to Baishakh 26, 2076 (April 28 to May 09, 2019) all over the country from 7 AM to 10 AM. Generally, NEB used to publish the results of Class 12 – Science’ a month ahead earlier than those of ‘Class 12 – Management, Humanities, and Education’ but since 2075 B.S. the results of Class 12 examination are published in the same date for all subjects. Previously the results of Grade 11 and Grade 12 examination used to be published in Percentage but from the past few years, NEB has introduced the letter grading system for Grade 11 and 12 Results.

  NEB Result 2076-2077 National Examination Board (NEB) Nepal (राष्ट्रिय परीक्षा बोर्ड). The NEB administered as Higher Education Council in Nepal. Grade 11 (class 11) and Grade 12 (Class 12) are considered the higher secondary level. The NEB allows students to access their exam results online.

National Examination Board Grade 12 Result Updates

National Examination Board (NEB), Sanothimi, Bhaktapur is in the final phase of publication of Grade XII result.

The Grade 12 (XII) exam was held from Baishakh 15 to Baishakh 26, 2076 (April 28 to May 09, 2019) all over the country from 7 AM to 10 AM. Generally, NEB used to publish the results of Class 12 – Science’ a month ahead earlier than those of ‘Class 12 – Management, Humanities, and Education’ but since 2075 B.S. the results of Class 12 examination are published in the same date for all subjects. Previously the results of Grade 11 and Grade 12 examination used to be published in Percentage but from the past few years, NEB has introduced the letter grading system for Grade 11 and 12 Results.

The Grade XI and XII Result come out in the form of GPA (Grade Point Average), with the highest GPA being 4.00. The GPA is based on the percentage of each of the subjects (Average of Theory and Practical Marks). The Grading system has been introduced in order to motivate students as they don’t get a “failed” grade like in the percentage system of scores. Find more about how the grades are given image below.

Grade XII Examination 2019 (2076) Facts

Altogether four lakhs twenty-eight thousands and fifty-two students from all 77 districts participated in Grade XII examination held from Baishakh 15 to Baishakh 26, 2076. In comparison, two lakhs eight thousand two hundred seventy-six were male students whereas the female students were two lakhs six thousand nine hundred seventy-five.

Similarly, two lakh ninety-eight thousand nine hundred eighty-seven were regular students and one lakh sixteen thousand two hundred sixty-six were partial students.

Thousands of human resources including 1 thousand 1 hundred 7 exam superintendents ( one in each exam center), 1 thousand 4 hundred 89 deputy superintendents, and 13 thousand 2 hundred 84 police personnel were deployed to conduct Grade XII examination peacefully.

Previous Year Grade 12 Result Statistics

In the previous academic year 2075, altogether 4 lakh 17 thousand and 89 students participated in Grade 12 examinations. Consequently, the results of the exam were announced on August 2, 2018.
