What are your thoughts on Mem Aleph? Isn't she a totally original character/demon invented for SJ or is shed based on some deity?

This is Mem Aleph's entry in Barbara Walker's The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets (1983). So the first citation is William F. Albright's Yahweh and the Gods of Canaan, a notable archaeologist and a notable book of the time (1968).

But you get to page 198 as quoted and you find this:

Albright is talking about depictions of bulls and gods in ancient Israeli art, and mentions an example on a seal (not an amulet!) that just so happens to also feature a mem and aleph on it.

Calling the seal an "amulet" implies "magic" and "something worn"; seals in the ANE could be imbued with magic but were typically affixed or written on objects instead of worn. A seal written with "Belonging to Shemaiah" would not be worn by Shemaiah himself. This is typical of Walker inventing or deliberately misinterpreting things to fit her narrative. Unfortunately I cannot find evidence of Shemaiah's seal beyond Albright's book; you'd probably have to actually look at Gressmann's Altorientalische Bilder zum Alten Testament.

The Larousse citation is its Encyclopedia of Mythology (1968):

Oh no! It's Graves! Thankfully, his introduction is short and he doesn't have anything else to do with the book. Here's every bit about Ameretat in the book:

So... "Ameretat" is the Avestan language term for "immortality", while "Mourdad" is the later Persian rendering, as the Larousse text here implies. "Mourdad-Ameretat" is not the name of anything quoted here, much less something that exists anywhere. Walker is simply twisting time here to create a "MA" goddess to confirm her bias.

Atlus definitely didn't create Mem Aleph, but it seems that Walker definitely did. There's much more "substance" to her concept in the MA entry but based on how easy it is to prove she makes things up, it shouldn't require any further inquiry.

PROBABLY, a character, to whom Levia refers, was found.

This character is from "Renaissance" 2006 French cyberpunk cartoon.

Her name is Ilona Tasuiev (oh, pseudo-slavic name, LOLъ), she is one of main characters of the cartoon who was kidnapped in the beginning.

Ilona was an important worker in a cosmetics megacorporation, when she began career there, she was only 13 years old. There is no information when Levia began career in Held Clinic, but with knowing that she entered the institute at the age of 6, it looks logical that she began career at similar age as Ilona. And Ilona also was a workaholic.

Like Levia Barisol, Ilona Tasuiev is young (22 y.o.) blonde woman. But not only.

And these are not only coincidences.

Look at all of them, Levia and Ilona both:

✅ have hort blonde hair,

✅ have something like eastern-European wibes,

✅ began their career at very early age than almost all people,

✅ worked in an organization owned by German,

✅ worked in an organization with a relative,

✅ are workaholics,

✅ were in a parallel word*

* it isn't true actually, however Ilona was in similar place for third of the cartoon.

Cool coincidences, aren't they?

But did mothy know about this cartoon, you can ask? Well, maybe, because Wikipedia article about it was created at the same year when the cartoon was released.

"Renaissance" cartoon has interesting style, but its plot can look ordinary for someone. I also didn't want spoiler when I told about parallels between Levia and Ilona, because it could create false impressions in your minds.

But I'm not against if you see that cartoon, but I must warn:

1. The parallels those I found, can be false.

2. Very highly likely, mothy WON'T use the cartoon's plot for creating the Second Period arc.

Official PV of "Miniature Garden Girl" was released on July 3, 2008, and has a lot of illustrations, not only Suzunosuke's. And there is this illustration among another ones that appears between 03:03 and 03:19 :

By the way, curiously, Michelle's arms in this art are placed the same way as Eva's in "Moonlit Bear" PV, that was released on the same date as "Miniature Garden Girl" song (but not clip) — June 22, but a year apart.

The fact is that the background of this illustration is text in English. What's it about? Well, it isn't "Lorem ipsum", and that's all able to know. If the illustration will be edited by right way, only some of the letters will be readable, the rest is unreadable not so much because of the quality, but because of the outline of Michelle's profile.

As you see, the text is difficult to index at least because there is nothing to type into Google for getting any result. But does this make sense, what if the text is inserted as decorative feature only? Yes, the probability of this is high, however...

The fact is that the clip was made imitating the about Victorian or Art Nouveau styles, and yes, inserts in the form of text from English-language newspapers of the early 20th century are sometimes used for creation of pre-WW1 epoch. But here the case is a bit different: firstly, the text looks more like a passage of a letter or a novel, and secondly, the font used in the background looks like a font from a simple HTML page, without the serifs mandatory for newspapers of more than a century ago. Yes, the lack of serifs can be explained by resolution, but if they were really there, it would be even more difficult to read with such quality. Another thing to point out is the "that that", which looks like an obvious typo or machine translation error from 2008, which raises two questions: where did the text come from, and, if the text was made up by mothy or the illustration author, where is Japanese original?

However, knowing that the canon of EC was changed a long time ago, this is already of archaeological interest. But it doesn't cancel the fact that no one paid attention to this detail for more than 1,5 decades.

I got to do a Glassred drawing inspired by Art Nouveau and Alphonse Mucha. I really enjoy doing these so might do more of these in the future.

New album from mothy to be released at Comiket on August 13! Based on the fact that the twin rabbits here are likely Arte & Pollo, its probably safe to assume this is continuing the plotline of E.A.T PROLOGUE. I don't trust myself enough to translate the name of the album (and by extension the first song), but it's something about twin rabbits playing a flute (or another similar woodwind instrument). Second tweet poorly embedded up there is a promo video for the album, presumably featuring the instrumental for one of the songs--the text in the promotional image on the left mentions a "Demon's Flute", and the text in the video mentions that the twins disappear.

There are six songs on the album (3 new songs and their off vocal versions). The first one is the same name as the album, which I don't trust myself enough to translate, with vocals from the Kagamines. The second one is "Atelier Horloge", with vocals from Kasane Teto. (Atelier is French for workshop/studio, and horloge is French for clock.) The third song is "Sister Clarith's Peculiar Evening", with vocals from Hatsune Miku and Yuzuki Yukari. This will be mothy's first release using Teto and Yukari!

The album is illustrated by Ichika and will have an 8 page booklet.

mothy also gave a brief introduction for each song: the first song is bright and upbeat, the second song is bright and refreshing, and the third song isn't bright and is also dubiously a song at all. He also stated ten days ago that he plans to upload a video for the new Rin & Len song before Comiket, but only if he can finish it in time.

Why Arth was made a doll? (theory)

Almost seven years ago, mothy made one of his most controversial actions in relation to his story: making Arth Lucifen d'Autriche, the father of "Daughter of Evil"... mud golem, and already retroactively - before the song "That King was Born from Mud", there's no mention of this in the Daughter of Evil long novels. Fandom is probably still wondering why mothy did it, and asking related questions, such as whether Art is the biological father of the d'Autriches twins. Personally, I won't answer that question (or rather, I will, but later), but why Arth was made a doll... I may have an interesting theory for which I've done some sort of understudy.

But first, let's take a temporary break from Arth and dip into the deep antiquity - "Original Sin Story", namely one of its most famous songs, "Moonlit Bear", but in this case we need not the plot, but the title: because the "bear" turns out to be Meta Salmhofer, who shall we say not very much looks like a bear, and incidentally there is irony in this: after all, Meta's last name has the word "Salm", which in German translates to "Salmon", a favourite bears' food. Yes, Eve thought of Meta as a bear because of a childhood trauma, but don't you think that having the ONLY fact that makes sense to call this song that way somehow multiplies by zero?

- What's Meta got to do with it? The post is about Arth!.. - you tell me. And you may be right: Arth and Meta had... nothing in common. Until the original "Original Sin Story: Punishment" where Meta's ghost was punished for revealing memories with the presence of Seth by turning into clay.

Meta is known to be the mother of the Irregulars, Hänsel and Gretel. The father of the Irregulars, but already d'Autriches, is Arth. One became clay, the other was reborn from mud. Would you think that's it? Oddly enough, no. Arth's coolness and name are allusions to King Arthur, and one of the origins of the name is thought to be from the word... "bear" from one language or another. Now that's interesting, isn't it?

And if this theory is true, then it is understandable why the mud doll was able to conceive for his wife: he was made from the very same mud that was the mother of the Irregulars half a millennium ago. This is how the witch of Apocalypse and the king of Lucifenia are suddenly connected: they literally have the same body, made of the same material.

There is other question: What does the bear have to do with it? Well, I can't say anything about that. There's another "bear" character: Banika's servant Eater Sabella. How he's connected to Meta, and, if my theory was true, Arth is a sort of mystery...
