thought it might be fun to explain the original idea/reason i created my characters, so yearg!!

(note: for a while i consistently wanted to create a character with i class i hadnt used yet, so that was a thing for a while, ive included characters original race and class)

Zez (drow college of swords bard): playing dnd for the first time, needed a character, chose what seemed cool!! and i stand by those choices btw, i live you drow i love you bards

Vildanna (half-elf wild magic sorcerer): was intruigued by the idea of a wild magic character with an infection-like curse, and also the "soft uwu baybie, too sweet for this terrible world" trope

Kez (human abjuration wizard): i believe it was a good amout of "i love noble charcter" but iirc High (Keep Up) by Bo Baskoro played a not inisignificant role

Nizira (half-orc war cleric): possessed by her evil god to commit acts of violence :(

Arda (aasimar ghostslayer bloodhunter): wanted to make a like,, teen rebellion style character, of these like,, first 5, hes probably stayed the most consistent in terms of personality

Weary (tiefling gunsmith artificer): listened to waaaaaaay too much tma, and it infected my brain, like shes litterally fighting the not-them its over. also iirc this was when artificers were still in UA, hence the "gunsmith" instead of "artillerist"

Ivy (firbolg knowledge cleric): wanted a religious messiah character, though she started as just a fun doodle

Valas (drow battlemaster fighter): was soo deeply hyperfixated on Lent by Autoheart that i made a guy just so i could put it on his playlist

Amze (human soulknife rogue (i think)): got the monster manual for my birthday and found the lycanthrope rules, wanted to make a lycan character

Vern (dhampyr hexblade warlock): either the dhampyr rules had just come out and i wanted to make a dhampyr, or! i drew a guy, i really cant remember akdjsja

Azalea (water genasi four elementa monk): drew a cool water genasi!! and my group at the time had just fought a succubus and one of the party members came up with the headcannon that when you escape a succubus's thrall you go from feeling everything to feeling nothing, and i thought like "what if someone had been under thrall for like,, years"

Cassie (aasimar zealot barbarian): me and my girlfriend wanted to make twins and we were interested in the idea of aasimar/tiefling twins

Aria (changeling wildfire druid): i think the changeling rules had just come out? but mostly i just drew a silly, god now *thats* an art comparison i could get some mileage out of aldjska

Maxime (goliath rune knight): had never made a goliath before, i also wanted to use the random backstory generation tables from,, xanathars iirc?

Dogma (reborn crown paladin/undead warlock): was interested in the idea of a character that has two different patrons basically, also based on the idea of like,, how people who are in toxic situations often dont see them as toxic, so they were written to be an exploration of how that kind of thing would look to you if you could see it with fresh eyes

Wisteria (warforged bladesinger wizard): wanted to make a warforged based more on like,, porcelain dolls/marionettes, also wanted to push myself to create a more detailed ballet-esque design

(im gonna stop including the original races and classes, past this point most of them are consistent with their current versions)

Pollux: my girlfirend and I wanted to play divorcees, a little bit of jayvik arcane season one, and a little bit of loquatious and laerryn exu calamity

Vera: orginally just a sketch of a unicorn girl bc i wanted to draw a more like,, pinks and bows and sparkles type of design

Oscar: after consulting the deep texts (dms from 3 years ago) it seems my girlfriend and i wanted to make batman and the joker but batman kills the joker,, oscar is the joker btw

Micha: needed a character for a modern dnd campaign i played in first year, based entirely on me going to the dm and saying "what if hes the dipshit second prince of your important elf noble family and hes been missing presumed dead but hes actually just sleeping on a pull out couch and working in a grocery store", so like if prince harry smoked weed and exclusively wore those terrible meme shirts from redbubble

Wick (fire genasi abberant mind sorcerer): what if you were in love with your best friend and then he transcended planes and you entered a pact with him just to see him. people who are used to the current version of wick are probably very shocked.

Muse: now this is fun, muse used to be a different, much older, character of mine that i decided to revamp. so she used to be a tiefling celestial warlock named Hope!!

Prudence: wanted to make a character based on gargoyles and like,, the different purposes they served to gothic cathedrals

Lance/Violet: made him for this campaign where 3 tweens from the 1983 midwest get transported to a magic land where their bpdies are remade based on their subconscious, so i wanted to make a character who was a boy irl and then would become a girl in this other world, yaaaaaaay trans!!

yknow those posts that are like "this is so toxic, but given the people involved this is the best case scenario, just dont include anyone else in what youve got going on"? thats *the* most inportant thing to me about holyghost, and id go as far as to say that its the point of dogma as a character.

like yes ephraim and marius loved eachother soooo much but their relationship was not, and never could have been, healthy. theyre too codependent, they dont do anything outside of eachother, theyve defined their senses of self around eachother, etc etc. the lives they lived prior to meeting eachother, and the corrupt and abusive structures they lived under, primed them both to be the kind of person who would hear "i will kill and die for you, this is not a joke" and not see a huge red flag. they completely enable and justify eachother worst impulses and actions, to the point that Marius becomes a fallen aasimar and Ephraim breaks their oath. like its not good whats happening here.

and the entire idea behind dogma as a character is like, "if you could step outside of yourself and get a third person view of your life, how would it look?" so yeah its kinda important that holyghost is functional, but toxic.

now this is not to say that ephraim would have been better off with the temple, that situation was fucked up in such a tangibly different way that id probably need a whole new post. and this also isnt to say that dogma post revival should just be following holloway. ephraim/dogmas problem has always been attaching their sense of self to servitude to one person or ideal and the ideal solution is for them to get away from both marius and holloway and for them to start defining themself outside of that servitude.

we all want to be maas so we can get railed within an inch of our lives by wick, but how many of us would put in the work and put up with wicks many many character flaws. like yes older wick is hot and has great tits, but would you deal with emotionally consitpated 20 somthing wick? maas is very lucky, but god did they earn that, like they are gods strongest and most patient soldier

eventually when you have enough characters they start sort of seeming similar to eachother. you may see this as a sort of flaw in your writing, like youre "lacking originality" or "retreading the same ground". i disagree, i think being able to write characters with similar themes is important storytelling; and, moreover, that you can have a hundred million characters experience the same thing, and each react in a different way. *that* is where the fun writing is, *thats* where you start writing character foils and parallel arcs.

take vera and kez as an example: theyre both daughters of whaterdhavian noble houses, theyre both lesbians that dont know it yet, theyre both put under pressure from their families to live up to specific role expectations, etc etc. on their face they seem very similar, hell they both even fulfill the "mean girl" stereotype, but the huge differences are in their reactions to those pressures and experiences.

kez is desperate for praise and admiration, kez is desperate to be seen at all; vera would give anything to fade into the background. vera is more than willing to let herself be seen as stupid or incompetent so long as it serves her ends, thats about the only thing kez would never do because she needs everyone around her to see how intelligent she is. while kez is more outwardly rebellious in that shes loudly opposing her family's restrictive view of her future, veras rebellion is more successful because shes able to play comfortably within those restrictions. even the lesbians thing is different; where kez simply lacks the language to describe herself, vera knows full well what a lesbian is and has convinced herself she isnt one because its easier to live a life that is unfulfilling but safe. at a base level the main difference between these two is vera is afraid to rock the boat and kez is afraid of what would happen if she didnt.

this is gonna be a very basic overview of the au bc i dont have the time to get into the deeplore that lives in my head.

Its a modern au running on our date and year system (no im not going to acknowledge that means jesus exsisted, shhhh) In ambiguous north america country, maybe one day ill make some sort of map, but thats all you need to know for now

One of my favourite things abt Vern (both bc it's kinda funny and also very interesting) is the way he ended up simultaneously queer and queer coded. Bc Vern is bi, like that's just a completely neutral part of his character. But! It doesn't take a lot of work to contextualize his vampiric hunger as something akin to a gay man ignoring and avoiding his feelings in order to be more "socially presentable".

Vern's hunger is a feeling that builds up inside him until he can't control it anymore, and he has to act upon it. During the act he feels incredible, but once its over he feels nothing but shame. And ontop of all of that, its also a natural part of himself that he considers morally wrong; a belief taught to him by his mother.

The funny thing abt this is that it was completely unintentional askjgfalhjgfasf but i also think it was unavoidable. Vern was written to be based on gothic horror stories, fiction which is very frequently queer coded due to the way the monsters represented a social "other". And in an attempt to write a character based in that genre of fiction I inadvertently incorporated its queer coding. But Vern was also written by me in 2021 so hes written as queer in the text.

Forever thinking abt Wick's music being the only place where he lets himself be emotionally honest. I mean, I think this is true for most creative stuff for him (exibxit A being the poem he's been sitting on for literal years in canon), but music especially is such a release of emotions. Everything he's feeling and thinking he can get out of his head with music in a way he cant just by trying to talk it out. Things Wick wouldn't be caught dead saying out loud he'll say confidently if you put a chord progression under it. I'm insane abt him.

So I decided just to make a new blog aksfjkaghkslfaf. n e way this is a spot for me to basically just turn my voices time (technical term for talking to yourself in/about character) into something i can actually look back on. I expect my posts could range anywhere from single sentence concepts all the way to like,, paragraphs upon paragraphs of nonsense. Horray!!

My tagging system may evolve overtime but as of right now; "oc: [name]" is used for my characters, "foc: [name]" is for my friends characters, and "npc: [name]" will be used for npcs of any campaign. "character into" is for if i actually decide to write up intros for my losers (I may do some quick synopses? if so they'll be under the cut <3), "fic ideas" is pretty self explanatory, and any aus will be tagged, ex. "band au" "evil au" etc. If i come up with anything else i'll probably add it here!! I fully expect this blog to be more well tagged than my main aklsfgaslkhf

Oh the TMA hyperfixation hit me hard here. A simple kid from a farming village comes home one day to find her sister June replaced by someone else, even worse; shes the only one who seems to notice. Over the next 3 years Weary is slowly driven to the brink of madness, eventually leading to her using her inventive mind to create a firearm and "kill" the thing that isn't June. Naturally she's sent to a psych ward which she manages to escape from. Now shes on the run from the law, ever vigilant to anyone else who seems to change.
