Meet These Indian Daddy Bloggers Who Are Changing the Rules Of The Game
Meet These Indian Daddy Bloggers Who Are Changing the Rules Of The Game
At the thought of parent bloggers, our mind inadvertently visualises a mommy! The reality is no different either. Try finding parenting blogs on the internet and almost all of them would be run by mothers. It is indeed nice to see more and more moms owning small online spaces for themselves where they can share some amazing experiences with fellow parents. But don’t you really want to hear from the dads too?
We know that both the parents play a decisive role in the emotional development of their child. Today’s dads are much more participating in the parenting process. In fact, there are some good examples where daddies choose to stay at home with the kids while their wives are out at work. Since the millennial dads are more involved as parents, sure they will have a rich pool of experiences to share with the world. Wouldn’t it be nice to meet such daddy bloggers?
As we celebrate the International Men’s Day this month, let’s have a look at these cool and very interesting blogs run by the dads who are transforming the Indian blogging space in parenting.
I Wrote Those
Started by the daddy blogger Sidharth Balachandran a.k.a Sid, I Wrote Those mainly reflects his experiences as a stay-at-home-dad. Sidharth, who worked in the IT and telecom sectors overseas before relocating to India, decided to take care of his then one-year old son while his wife continued with her professional journey.
I Wrote Those is a collection of Sid’s parenting journey as well as humour, fiction, and opinion. The best thing about the blog is that Sid knows to keep it real and not preachy. He shares the day-to-day experiences with his son, talks about a nice recipe, or a book – all so effortlessly.
His work and the blog have been featured on various reputed platforms including the Huffpost, blogadda, The Indian Express, and The Hindu.
Indian Daddy’s Blog
This is a cute, must-visit blog to witness the amazing relationship and moments lived by a father-son duo. Started by Deba Kumar Dutta, who is a wildlife and nature enthusiast – the blog represents fun moments spent with his 5-year old son, Neel.
Deba is a hands-on dad – traveling with his son, visiting museum, celebrating festivals, spending time in midst of nature; and what not. Deba and Neel mostly spend their time learning new things from nature, also educating their readers. I bet you’ll be amazed to see a whole new world expressed through the eyes of a loving and caring father.
Thinkshop.in
An established business leader, with over 20 years of solid experience, has got time to pen down his fatherhood experiences. Not bad! Naveen Bachwani under the label “Being Dad” gives some real and interesting glimpses of his parenting as well as some cute, funny moments. Naveen, dad to 11-year-old and 15-year-old kids, shows through his writing the rollercoaster journey he is on. In the blog, he fondly addresses his kids as Tiger and Pumpkin (cute, isn’t it?).
But the blog is not entirely on funny and witty stuff. There are some informative posts too, like ‘5 Rules Every Child Should Know About Money’.
I am sure that after knowing about these cool Indian dad bloggers, many of you would have already started navigating their blogs. Today’s modern dads have no reservations in cooking meals or changing nappies or even taking the stay-at-home role. They have valuable experience and everyone should learn from them. Kudos to these daddy bloggers for writing a new chapter in the parenting chronicles and I do hope more and more join the bandwagon.
Happy International Men’s Day!

How I Managed To Keep My Skin Maintained Even After Swimming Every Day
How I Managed To Keep My Skin Maintained Even After Swimming Every Day
Come summers the heat just invites you to take a dip in the pool. This year has been exceptionally hot and I just decided to use the opportunity to learn swimming which has been on my agenda for years now and swimming is after all a great, low impact, full body exercise. I am one of those people who create a bucket list every year with swimming as things to tick off but it keeps passing on to next year :).
And of the biggest reasons has been the damage it does to skin and hair and I tend to get tanned really badly. So this year, I tried a few things which helped me maintain my skin.
I use a full body swimsuit. Yes, it doesn’t look fancy and a lot of people have told me it doesn’t help but when you swim almost 3-4 times a week, you need to do this. If you see my exposed hands, feet and face they have become drier and darker than the rest of the body, so clearly a full body swimsuit is good for people who swim that much.
Apart from this, before the swim, I apply a sunblock or sunscreen and over that a product that I have found which is for pre swimming skin and hair care is awesome and the only one I found online in India. It’s a brand called Dot & Key, they have pre and post skin and hair care products(please note this is in no way sponsored). I just found by chance and also remember some bloggers like @Ritchstyles reviewing it a few years back. For my hair I apply oil and then the Dot & Key pre swim hair care and wear a swimming cap to protect it further. Make sure you take a shower before entering the pool. It forms a skin barrier.
Also, remember to hydrate yourself as swimming every day does tend to dehydrate you. Have a glass of water before you leave home and one after you reach back.
Post swim, I immediately go for a shower with a creamy shower gel. I have tried using shampoo and conditioner for my hair(worked well) or using the post swim Dot & Key product(not worked so well). Post bath, I use either a pack made of raw potato juice and lemon or mix a grated tomato, lemon and turmeric to make another pack for my skin. Both are good tan removing options.
I also keep my skin moisturised well because skin tends to dry up. You can use any thick moisturiser or make your own DIY thick body cream like me, which works really well.
A home-made pack of honey, avocado or mayonnaise and egg yolk is very effective to give your strands that very necessary moisture. Mix together these ingredients and massage into your scalp. Wrap your head in a warm towel and leave it for about 10-15 minutes. Rinse out well with lukewarm water and shampoo as normal.
Once a month a cleanup/facial helps in restoring that glow as well. Even a detan or bleach one a month can help to remove tan but these definitely dry and harm the skin. So don’t overdo it.
Since I swim 3 days a week, I try and work on my skin for the next 3 days and I know it might sound exhaustive but it’s not once you get used to it. You need to take special care because after all skin does need special care when you are swimming every day. Any other hair tips? Do share, I can use some more research when it comes to hair post swimming.
Do consume your Vitamin E for keeping good skin health.
You can also refer to a very exhaustively researched blog on post swimming skin care which I had shared a few years back backed by a skin specialist. Listing below more tips on swim care.
How to care for your hair post swimming
How to make dechlorinating lotion at home
How to care for your swimsuit
Expert advice from a dermatologist.
Have any more tips to share? Comment below, will add to the blog and give you credit :).
Until then signing off, happy swimming :)!!

How Does A Dad Handle Parenting Challenges?
PARENTING CHALLENGES If we take a quick glance at the parenting patterns of India through 70’s and 80’s it is almost obvious that the parents in most cases directed the paths of their children on all crucial decisions around studies and career paths. Many a times the children had minimal or no say to express their views about specific interests that they may have and they potentially are passionate about. Also the various realms of education that a child could potentially pursue was dictated by the parents who meant well but gave little rope for any contrarian views.
Admittedly the bright ones had to pursue one among the following choices of education – Medicine, Engineering, Accountancy or Law and most children who didn’t fit into the above scheme of things were rendered as failures. Times have changed and here we are as parents of today who tend to have a very consultative process of identifying the child’s real interests and most times supporting it whole heartedly. Also various new choices of education have come up over time due to successes made by incumbents pursuing those- Fashion, Journalism, Creative fields and Liberal arts etc. whilst the charm of the conventional big 4 fields continues to fascinate parents and children.
I have two kids – daughter who chose to pursue graduation in Film animation and son who wishes to pursue studies in Economics. My job, the way I saw it was to really test as to how keen they are and upon confirmation support them to pursue what they aspire for, without directing. I think good inputs are always received from teachers who coach them and have a very objective view of the student. So for parents who think Parents Teachers Meet (PTM) is not a good investment, please do indulge as it provides great perspectives about your child. I always made it a top priority event that I had to attend and has been very enlightening. Parents often underestimate the influence of the child’s friends in shaping the character of behaviours of your child especially through adolescence. I always took the time to have a chat with my children’s friends’ and indeed is again a very good investment of time.
Many parents do have the tendency to pamper and interfere in the affairs of the kids to such a large extent that it many a times starts to adversely impact the behavioural development of the child. I was never a controlling father giving the children enough space for them to have their own independent views and support them to make decisions independently. I do believe ability to do that does have a positive bearing on their life in general.
This article is authored by Arun Kumar. Arun is father to a 23-year-old daughter and a 17-year-old son, an entrepreneur and owns Innogrow Ventures. In his proud parenting journey he has not missed a single PTM for both kids in spite of his hectic travel schedule.

Happy Kids With #HappyTummies With Enterogermina
#HappyTummies With Enterogermina
Most of experiences that I share with you guys come from my first born and the time I was a new mom. He would fall sick very often and something that would start from something as small as a cold, the medicines would create heat in the body and he would get diarrhoea and indigestion.
Soon, I had learned to detect the problem at an early stage. Whenever, my kids would get diarrhoea, I would give them lime water and Enterogermina. As soon as their tummy would ache they would ask for it.
Recently, I was invited to #HappyTummiesMeet. Dr. Zinal Unadkat, addressed us and shared many eye-opening facts on diarrhoea symptoms, causes and remedies which I found very useful for all of us moms. So here is a recap of the same.
Did you know that diarrhoea happens to one in three kids?
Dr Zinal took us through causes, symptoms and remedies for the same and I thought it’s worth sharing with you guys.
I shared my personal experience with Enterogermina and also brought in the concept of pranayama to manage stomach troubles.
There are two types of diarrhoea
Viral- can be managed easily.
Bacterial- check for the red flags listed below.
Consult with your doctor if your child has diarrhoea for more than 24 hours.
Red flags that every mom should look out for when the kid has diarrhoea;
severe stomach ache
watery stool
fever
headache
nausea
loss of appetite
Loss of energy
Not drinking enough water
Urine dark yellow, concentrated and if it’s frequency decreases
How can you manage diarrhea?
Give your kid Zinc– to reduce frequency of motion and restore water balance in the body
Make sure to give boiled water and fresh juice
If you have a baby under 6 months then feeding breast milk is important. It’s completely safe and improves the kid’s immunity.
Give Enterogermina that helps manage Diarrhoea and is Paediatrician’s No.1 choice. #HappyTummies With Enterogermina
What is a Probiotic?
Probiotic is a friendly bacteria which benefits our digestive health.
When someone suffers from diarrhoea the stomach balance is disturbed and bad bacteria increases in the body. A probiotic like Enterogermina, induces good bacteria in the body and restores balance back, increases absorption of nutrients by the body.
Watch the video to know how probiotics like Enterogermina work and concept of #HappyTummies With Enterogermina
The kids were entertained with a small skit and games and one thing that got ingrained in their mind was that good bacteria helps them fight the bad bacteria and helps them get #happytummies.
As a mom, I always teach my kids to have healthy habits, teaching them through play and fun goes a long way.
Disclaimer: While this is a sponsored post, all opinions mentioned are my own.

From The Dad’s Corner- When He Asked His Son What Father Meant To Him
From The Dad’s Corner
All great things are simple and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope. -Winston Churchill
Sometimes a simple word or expression deceptively hides a much deeper emotion behind it and it’s only after conscious contemplation one might be able to decipher the latent thought .
A small and otherwise casual conversation on a breakfast table with my 11-year-old son, did nudge me think of how a particular relationship evolves with generations .
On the question of what’s the first thought which comes in his mind when he hears the word ‘father’ he quipped back immediately : GIFT
Now it might just seem a casual expectancy of an upcoming event: the fathers on the 16th of this month, but then it also suddenly made me reflect on the possible deeper meaning, beyond the transactional level .
Even today the same word brings in a sense of security but with reverence, respect and mixed emotions of fear and sombreness. This is what most my generation stepped out of into the world of global cultures and expressive freedom. To expect similar thoughts as in past about this relationship was to deliberately look away from the reality of today and the constantly changing future.
So when my son stated the word GIFT my immediate but conscious deeper reflection made me think of whole lot of parallel words like positive expectancy, hope, happiness, provider, friend etc all of which in his innocence comes out in a more everyday expression. Relationships today in the general rush of life do tend to become transactional without them intended to be so. I remember having hours of talks of idealism with our seniors as kids which seems almost impossible to converse with today’s kids. The short attention span inducted by the new mediums, the speed of everyday life, a different dimension of social context, the world of acronyms all push the expressions also to be deceptively simple and everyday. I believe it’s for us as parents to find out either by friendly enquiry or by simply using conscious thinking to understand deeper emotions.
Only then I feel the expressions don’t die down at basic level and give path to more meaningful conversations .
For me it was a learning inducted by simplicity and spontaneity of my son’s expression helped me to catch the purity in it and with a little patience to flower out a completely different dimension of his emotions .
For me this fathers day has provided this conscious platform to consciously evaluate the small and simple things of everyday life and make it as momentous as possible.
It would be so apt to quote Shakespeare’s line at this point of closure
“it is a wise father that know his own child “
This article is authored by Vishal Kapoor, Chief Design Officer at Future Group. He’s been a dad for 11 years and has been a key evangelist for driving design thinking in India. He’s a hands on dad having contributed and participated in raising his son and enriching his experiences by exploring this world and its people and cultures together as a family. He almost always ensures to catch a talk before the end of the day with his son not just to evaluate how the day was but to experience it through his child’s perspective.
We need more and more dads to participate in parenting and to hear their views, because after all it was never meant to be one person’s job. We at @maaofallblogs would love to hear from you. We are opening a dad’s corner and you are free to write in to [email protected] share your views anytime.

When Another Mom Becomes Your Source Of Pressure
When Another Mom Becomes Your Source Of Pressure
Why does your kid always come late to the bus stop?
Hasn’t your girl lost so much weight?
Your kid always troubles my kids.
Haven’t you put on a bit of weight, lately?
Do you always dress up in westerns?
I am sure each one of us hears this at some point of time from fellow moms. A few days back I talked about how you should reach out to other moms in need of support but let’s address a different issue now, if another mom is too rude to you and the pressure becomes overbearing then this post is for you. Sometimes we don’t even realise when we pass statements to others on how we becoming a source of pressure to the other moms.
As a mom, you might have already placed a significant amount of pressure on yourself so when you add some expectations and pressure from others, it becomes easy to get overwhelmed.
Here are 3 best ways which you can try out to deal the pressure from other moms. These ideas may not apply to every situation but at least one of them can be of help to you to deal with the pressure from other moms.
A. Cut Out the Source of Pressure:
This might sound harsh but if you do not deal with the source of pressure then everything else will feel like a band aid on the wound. Also, you need to keep in mind that, you need not cut the source rudely and permanently, just make a temporary cut down and enjoy your own time. Yes, send the vibes across to the mom who is causing this anxiety. You can avoid taking unnecessary calls and respond to messages. Eventually, with no response they will tire out or just lose interest.
B. Address the Source of Pressure directly:
This is the best way to handle the pressure from other mom. Confront them what you dislike and ask them not to repeat that again and add up to your already pressured life. If you cannot confront then simply communicate politely and make the source understand how you feel. Bring the topic proactively. Choose a moment when both of you are calm and in a good mood, plan what you wish to say and focus on how you are feeling because sometimes people do not really mean to add pressure in your life but they fail to realise how their comments and behaviour are interpreted. If it turns ugly, be prepared to stay calm and walk away as well after putting your point across.
C. Let the Pressure Become a White Noise:
If the source of pressure still exists even after trying both the above mentioned ideas then take the matter completely in your hands and using your mental skill block out the pressure coming your way. You can think of it like making a protective shield to block the pressure and its source which can be both temporary and permanent. This may not be an easy task for some but being able to shield yourself from some source of pressure is the first step which needs to be taken.
Apart from these 3 ideas, you can try these points too:
Do not give in to negativity: Try not to let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs. Adding negative words of your own on top of others will increase the negativity in the situation.
Talk with other parents about it: Never ignore pressuring remarks from other moms; instead talk to them about those specific comments which are made by them. It might not be comfortable but remember that neglected wounds always get worse. You can ask for a clarification and let them know how you felt.
Evaluate whether or not you can rebuild trust: Once the mom gets aware of her mistake and tries to change herself and her behaviour and shows respect, evaluate and then decide whether you wish to continue with the friendship or not. I would suggest to be friendly but keep a safe distance.
If even after all this the mom refuses and fails to understand you and your situation and continues with the same behaviour, then it’s best to cut off the relationship. Remember you can’t please everyone in life and it’s more important to keep yourself happy.
