Should you wear a bowtie or a necktie

Are you going to an event? Do you have a necktie and a bowtie? Not sure which tie you should wear? Don't fear, we are here to help you decide! If you already have an outfit picked out, your outfit will dictate which one to wear. There aren't necessarily neck wear rules to follow, except for a few very specific situations that we will be mentioning. The main thing to consider is the level of formality of the event you will be attending. For formal events such as black tie events or those that require you to wear a tuxedo, a bowtie would do it. It is also better to rather be over dressed than under dressed. Although bowtie's are best for formal wear, you can wear them for casual events too if you're comfortable doing so. Neckties are great for more casual and laidback events or when you're wearing a suit to the office. They are generally the go-to neck wear that people choose at most events. Here are the rules to bear in mind when in certain situations: - Suits are generally more casual whereas a tuxedo is more formal. You can pair a necktie with a suit and a bowtie with a tux. - Pleated shirts are generally designed with button studs. They're often times worn with a tuxedo and are considered formal. Wear a bow tie in this scenario. - Formal events or events that have a very specific dress code like black tie events, it is best to wear a bowtie. - Black tie optional, creative black tie, casual, semi formal events are better off with a neck tie. When selecting a tie, stick to black silk or satin and keep it plain or a simple black and white pattern. These rules are not set in stone and truth be told, there isn't a truly right or wrong way to go about it when it comes down to your choice and comfort. The Exclusive Alterations Guide – How to make your suit last longer

Once you have invested money in a suit, you also want to make sure that it wasn’t a waste and make it last as long as possible. Here are some tips to make sure your suit lasts longer. 1. CLEANING You should only clean your suit when it is visibly dirty or starting to smell – meaning that you possibly spilled something on it, or you have sweat through it. The majority of suits are dry-clean-only, and you should not over dry-clean a garment. Dry cleaning is a chemical wash that can wear down the fabric if you do it too often. The fibre begins to weaken, and your suit will not last as long. If your suit simply needs a “refresher”, you should have it professionally pressed. This is less expensive than dry-cleaning, and the heat and steam will eliminate most of the bacteria and clean it adequately in most cases. 2. IRONING/STEAMING It is a wise idea to steam or your suit either before or after each wear.  This means that it will return to its natural state and fit.  This can be as simple as hanging the suit in the bathroom when you take a hot shower. If you intend to iron your suit yourself, ensure the use of a pressing cloth (which is a piece of cloth, normally cotton, between the hot metal of the iron and the fabric of the suit).  If you put the hot iron directly on the fabric, you risk scorching the fabric. 3. STORING You should hang up your suit immediately once you take it off.  It shouldn’t be thrown in the hamper, over a chair or on the ground.  Instead hang it on a proper hanger with a pant bar and full shoulder.  This will allow it to keep its original shape, and help it last longer. When storing it for a longer time (such as seasonally), you should keep your suit in a protective garment bag or plastic cover, with a cedar hanger to ensure that the moths are kept away. 4. GIVE IT A BREAK You should try not to wear your suit for two days in a tow.  Just like shoes, it is a wise idea to give the garment time to fully dry and air out. 5. ALTERING If your body changes shape and the suit is not fitting as well as it could, consider getting it altered by a professional tailor. A properly adjusted fit should not just look and feel good, it also helps a garment last for a longer time. A garment that is ill-fitting can “pull” gawkily on the fabric with movement, causing strain. Strain can lead to tears in your suit. 6. A white suit is a unique choice for those who like to stand out, and perhaps got a bit bored of the classical black style. Here are four tips to make you and your suit stand out. 1. Wear the Right Shoes The majority of suit wearers assume that white shoes are the best choice, they may think like this due to the choice of black shoes being worn with black suits. The matching white garments, however, do not go well together. Wearing white shoes will make it seem like you are wearing a tall boot, and not a pretty sight either. Rather opt for something that contrasts with the colour.  Darker colours, such as all-black shoes, are the way to go. Brown is also an option. 2. Press the White Suit White suits show wrinkles and creases much easier than their darker counterparts. The last thing you want to happen is to wear your white suit to a special event, only to later discover that you look like pieces or stacked paper.
