Backstory Summary!

Basically, this is the plainspeak of the story version HERE!!

Exe, real name ■ ■ ■ ■, was born in Bolívar to a Sankta mother and a Perro father.

Their Mama originally lived in Laterano, working as a baker in her own independent bakery. Unfortunately, she contracted Oripathy and by the Lateran laws, was forced to leave Laterano. She was able to travel to Bolívar and continue her work as a baker, where some years after settling, she met and fell in love a Perro man working at the food stands near her new bakery, who would become Exe's Papa. The two eventually married and had Exe (as per the Law, Exe was born Perro despite having parents of two different races).

Unfortunately, their time with their puppy was shorter than they hoped.

Their mother's Oripathy had worsened, and their father had already contracted Oripathy before meeting his wife. To make matters worse, the Leithanian-Columbian wars over Bolívarian territories began to escalate, and Exe's parents were afraid of them possibly being drafted into the war (as they were becoming close to the age of conscription) or their family suffering from the damage of the war. More than this, Exe's parents were aware that Oripathy would mean they wouldn't be able to be around for their puppy much longer; they wanted to ensure that, once they were gone, Exe would be someplace safe with someone to take care of them.

This eventually pressured the family into leaving Bolívar. Without Laterano as an option because of their Infection, and their home now strained by war, Exe's mother thought it was best to travel to Iberia because of the presence of the Lateran faith there. She thought, perhaps, they might find someone who could help them there.

Unfortunately, the trip was long and their Oripathy progressed severely. The truth became clearer and clear - Exe's parents knew they wouldn't make it to Iberia.

In a last effort to protect their puppy and ensure they would find a new guardian, Exe's Mama used her right as a Lateran citizen to issue her will to the Notarial Hall: "Please do anything to protect our child. If they cannot find home in the Holy City, please find them safe home elsewhere."

They left Exe outside of an old abandoned Lateran church on a hill surrounded by a flower field, a landmark they hoped would help the Notarial Hall find their puppy faster. Exe's Mama was a talented Originium Arts caster, able to soothe the mind and put people to sleep with her Arts; Oripathy had altered her abilities, resulting in residual memory fog/memory loss on those she used it on, which had made her hesitant to use it. However, she saw no other choice and used her Arts to put Exe to a deep sleep so they would stay put until the Notarial Hall found them.

Once they were sure Exe would be as safe as they could provide, their parents said their goodbyes - and left to die together, as far away as possible, where the Originium from their corpses wouldn't make Exe sick.

The Notarial Hall found Exe a short time later, however, because they were not a Sankta and had no relatives in Laterano, couldn't find a home for them in Laterano.

Instead, as per their Mama's will, they entrusted Exe to Rhodes Island, where they would be accepted and kept safe.

Under effect of their mother's Arts, Exe would remain asleep for some years. When they finally awoke with Amiya at their side, they would suffer issues with their memory as a side effect of their Mama's Arts.

The only thing fully clear in their memory was the promise their parents had left them - someone new, a guardian angel, would come to protect Exe now in their stead.

For a long time, this would be all they had to hold onto, until Laterano signs an agreement with Rhodes Island.

Relationships!

Dr. Exe's Office - Though not as Mama and Papa had planned, they have found a home here.

Federico Giallo; Executor the Ex Foedere

Exe's promised 'guardian angel'; perhaps not as claimed, perhaps the Holy City will say they have no place with the Saint, perhaps the people will point at their absence of a halo to spit that the Law rejected them, however there will never be any doubt from Exe precisely where they belong. If Federico himself isn't in their office, there are flowers or desserts on Exe's desk as his proxy.

Ernesto Salas; Tequila

Childhood friends; Exe knew Ernesto in Bolívar, however Ernesto was sent to the army by his father and Exe's parents fleed with them at around the same time, and they hadn't seen eachother for years until reuniting at Rhodes Island after the events of Dossoles Holiday. Labrador twins!

Enya SilverAsh; Pramanix

An unlikely friendship; Enya's hiding away from her responsibilities found her in Exe's office often, as they were more than fine with letting the Saintess relax, and eventually they became close, especially after the events of Break the Ice. The two like to escape their respective duties to go lollygag, lmoajskss.

Arturia Giallo; Virtuosa

Exe would love to have more to say about Federico's sorer... However he won't let the two of them anywhere near eachother unless absolutely necessary.

Vermeil

The original Exerico wingman; at the very beginning, it was a very exasperated Vermeil that helped drag the two of them together when Exe was too uncertain and Federico was hopelessly dense.

Arianne Lumière; Lumière

A Caprinae with a talent for music, never seen without her Banshee; Exe gushes whenever they spot the two spending time together... And turns away to look at the wall when they're holding their famous 'chair race' or other such shenanigans, "They're what? Oh! I... Didn't even... notice them! But it looks very fun! I mean-- I'm sure it was fun! N-Not that I saw it!". In contrast to their unflappable matches, you might find the two giggling around the Landship or planning their next duo-date.

Sybil; Omen

A Liberi who returned with her theatre cat; it all started when the puppy first saw her, gasped, and started to yip about how pretty they thought her, "like something from a storybook!!". Exe insists with a smile that there's no reason they refrain from deploying either of them on Operations too often, though if you ask Federico, he'll explain plainly that Exe believes they deserve time together after all they've been through, "no more violence, not when they've already faced so much of it".

Notarial Hall Co.™

Other Sankta may disapprove of their presence, however everytime the puppy visits the Notarial Hall, a certain trio gets to watch their new favourite rom-com channel: The Stoic Saint and His Puppy. Serpilia and Richele see this as free entertainment, but both agree with Ezell that perhaps this is good for the Saint.

Exe is based off a black labrador retriever!

Dr. Exe's Office - Please caution, the quaint garden in the corner may occasionally be protected by fragmentation mines or high-voltage fences...

Trivia!

If you're with Exe, it's very easy to tell if Federico is nearby; without even seeing him, their tail starts to wag hard enough to lash someone.

Exe's office has a small garden tucked in the corner (see pictured above svshvs!!). Federico helps take care and water the plants and flowers, and also keeps the glass bell with Clément's flower there.

Exe, as a lingering affect of their Mama's Arts, does still have some memory issues, especially in remembering names or faces and keeping track of time. Sometimes, their memory loss frightens them and they wonder if someday they might wake up with more pieces missing. But, they assure everyone that this doesn't trouble their daily tasks and that there's no need for concern.

Also a side effect of their Mama's Arts, Exe becomes very sleepy, very easily. Sometimes, they'll just sit down... And end up falling asleep.... in seconds... Absjshs.

Exe has awful eyesight... but they don't feel like their glasses flatter their face, so when they're not using them, they wear them on the top of their head like sunglasses for easy access, lolsksks.

Exe's favourite colour is blue!

🐰; If they live together: Was it easy for the two of you to agree on the interior decorations? Does one of you want to change something all the time? And is this your forever home or do you plan on moving somewhere else one day?

i like to think that they share a dorm room in rhodes island! the doctor probably saw them together and made a face and was like yea...... itll be fine...... phantom doesn't seem to be the type to be into decorating to me so he's happy to go along w whatever omen likes ^_^ she probably has a lot of vases around for flowers he gives her and stuff, record player in the living room (important), cat bed for miss christine (very important)... just simple stuff but enough to make it feel lived in! after act or die apparently he travels around a lot and only occasionally comes back to rhodes island so in that case i can see a lot of the decorations in their wherever-they-are being kinda sparce since they're gonna move soon anyway. but something something... home is where wifey is so i don't think the transience(?) of it really bothers either of them much ^_^

for lrtr i think they generally also agree on decorations in the backroom ^_^ the default decorations are from entrati and they both have a bone to pick w that guy so yk might as well put whatever random shit u can so u forget that the couch is from him!!!! arthur is a military guy so he probably likes things relatively neat and loren is. very much not that. so i think the decorations change a little bit every day by nature of loren putting some new thing they fetched from a mission and arthur Sighing Fondly and finding a new place to put it ^_^ if they could they'd live there forever. alas. the nefarious tennocon teaser trailer

THE NEFARIOUS CHEETAH (the old tragodia)!!!!! yea its an external factor but i think the fact that he basically brainwashed both of them for their entire lives is a pretty big obstacle... even if he kinda tried to pair them up together it wasnt rly in a healthy way yk. fucked up both of their expectations about romance and each other to the point that omen was like yes. when we get married i have to DIE because im a PLOT DEVICE FOR HIM and phantom was like what. huh. i dont want that. hello. and then phantom stabbed tragodia it turned out fine i think

for lrtr its both the man in the wall being a little freak and also the fact that both of them are REPRESSED!!!!!! they don't want to admit they need help and god forbid they admit they have FEELINGS for EACH OTHER! they'd rather take that knowledge to their many many many many graves. but putting up walls to other people is what the mitw wants. so they kinda had no choice but to make out through the reactor glass eventually #truelove

🐵; What was it like to introduce each other to your respective families and friends? Did they support you right from the start or were they a little wary, at first?

in my head phanomen's family were mostly the others in the troupe but. stares. they can't really approve or disapprove anymore.... shalem unfortunately has known about them for forever and i think even if he throws up a bit in his mouth each time he sees them do pda he's happy for them both. they were able to turn something the troupe did into something good yk... miss christine definitely also knew about them both for foreverrrr and i think it's kinda similar on her end too. when omen is around phantom's emotions get so complicated that it reminds her of when he was younger/when they first met. like a mix of him being repressed and not knowing how to deal w emotions properly and also like... making him feel more "innocent" emotions again? yea ^_^ i think she likes omen bc of that, even if omen's Own emotions arent exactly the tastiest to her. i still like omen being friends with orchid and i think it'd be kinda funny if she was kind of skeptical of him at first. "she keeps saying she'll die for u so u better treat her well u hear?" or something along those lines. but they're both obsessed w each other so it's ok

summary!

before they were rhodes island’s phantom and omen, the two of them were simply lucian and sybil. they had known each other since they were young, and sybil, as his “senior” in the troupe — despite the two of them not actually being too far apart in age — took it upon herself to dote on him… and the other children from his hometown, of course. they became quick friends, and they would often be seen together even outside practice, exploring the many rooms of the castle or singing in the courtyard.

as they grew, it became obvious that whatever budding feelings were growing between them, even if they weren’t directly orchestrated by the troupe, was something they greatly encouraged. lucian was their star actor, the gallant suitor, while sybil was relegated to being his withering bride. and while she seemed more than willing to snuff herself out for him like tragodia seemed to want, he couldn’t find it in himself to love her the way the troupe wants him to — he saw delicate bones jut through all-but-transluscent skin and thought back to when she took him by the hand to run through the courtyard, and his heart ached. when he believed he killed her along with the rest of the troupe, he mourned her like they ever dared to call each other “lovers.”

they met again during the events of crimson solitaire, when lucian found her in the castle. he took her back with him to rhodes island for treatment, far away from the ghosts of the troupe. though neither of them have ever said it outright, the gentle touches and fond gazes between them are evidence enough that they finally feel free enough to put a name to whatever it is between them.

Exe Lore Intro!

.𖥔 ݁ ˖ if you're wondering... what the puppy's story is...!!

Contains: Allusions to racial discrimination, religious/biblical symbolism + imagery, mentions of war and conflict, implied Oripathy, death, memory loss

The Perro will confess, they don't recall much. However, best recall now - before these memories too, fade along with the others.

"... Okay! I'll tell you what I can remember. We don't know when I might... Forget again, right?"

Perhaps if they were born in the Holy City, they might've lived unbeknownst. However, without a halo and wings, the truth they must yield to is different.

In every place - sickness and war claim all.

Mama's face, drops falling from her eyes as lips move in a lullaby; Papa's arms weary from providing them a cradle; flowers surrounding the church sat upon the hill, petals caressing skin in the place of Mama and Papa's hands.

Behind them, home is sieged by a war whose hands will tear their child away, and ahead, the land of the sea is too far out of reach to welcome them. Mama's halo is tilted like an uneven scale, and shards of black crystal pierce through the fur on Papa's ears.

Mama's casting disarms the puppy's protests; Papa's fingers tremble too much to be soothing as they comb through their hair; slumber claims them after the flowers, inevitable and heavy.

Mama nor Papa returns. Uniforms carrying firearms collect the young puppy from the church; the Holy City cannot welcome them, no matter if such was their mother's last request.

However, there is one place that offers safety to all.

How much time has passed, they cannot be certain. Something less than a decade, something more than years.

Time does the memory no favours; nor does the lingering fog of Mama's casting.

They remember nothing, nothing between Mama's lullaby and their awakening to the young Cautus girl clinging to their hand.

Except, the Perro remembers the same dream for time immeasurable, of Mama's and Papa's promise:

"My dear, an angel will come to protect you."

There is no place in the Holy City for dogs. A dog returns to its vomit. A dog is forbidden to what is sacred. A dog is unclean, licking at blood and sores.

"The people of the Law will scorn you, dog."

It is inexplicable, then, how the puppy has caught the aim of the angel.

"But do not be afraid. For the day will come, when the Law shall grant you a place beside the Saint. For the day will come, when the Law itself shall summon you to stand before it."

The hair and eyes lack the golden warmth the guardians in Mama's stories possessed, his more akin to snow and ice. The words are devoid of the honeyed tone the guardians Papa had recalled spoke in, his too terse and concise.

And yet - they believe the obsidian halo with the antennae upon it, floating above his head, is familiar.

"Mama, Papa... He looks nothing like you said he would, you know! But, you said fate doesn't make mistakes, right? And anywho... I already gave my heart to him, so...! But, don't worry. I promise on my everything - that no one and nothing will make me take it back."

GENERAL

1. Who initiated the relationship, and how did it go?

Absjshs... So... This question makes me snicker a little slosjsks 😭😶

It was Exe!! Though... That's probably obvious... Since I'm not sure it could've been 'Rico 😭😶⚰️

We all know how he is with reading emotions of others... And, it's worth noting... their relationship began pre-Hortus de Escapismo, so... At the time Federico had the same ability to notice social cues as a rock... Lmaosjskjs 😶

So when the usual gentle pokes or flirting didn't work... Exe took a leap! They tried to be smooth about it... (They were not lopsksokss 😭⚰️)

"Executor? I heard about this cafe in Laterano... They decorate cupcakes like little animal faces?"

"Yes. I am aware which cafe you are referring to, it opened two weeks ago on Via Canelé."

"So... I was gonna go there after my paperwork is done! Uhm... You should-- I mean-- are you coming?"

"You are requesting my company to the cafe."

"Y-Yeah! Uhm, it's not a mission-- I mean, it IS a mission if that's what will make you come, uh, not that I want you to come-- wait, no, I mean-- I do I just--"

6. What’s their relationship with each other’s families?

So!! This is sbsjshs going to be a bit of a ramble 🥹 so sbsjs please bear with me!

On Exe's side: Long story short, Exe's family is no longer around, and haven't been for awhile... sbshhs...it's just Exe, and unfortunately... They remember their family less and less as time goes on... (might need an Exe backstory lore drop sbsjs... But anywho their parents have long passed away)

But!! The closest they have to family... Would be Pramanix/Enya and Tequila/Ernesto! Best friends! And Tequila has known them long enough that they're basically siblings lolsnsis 🥹

Enya and Ernesto feel... Basically the same about Federico! Didn't know what Exe saw in 'Rico at first, and were a little worried for them considering 'Rico's reputation to be near incapable of emotions and v cold 🥹 but they can see Federico truly loves them, and he takes good care of them... So they approve! But, not exactly super friendly with 'Rico lolsksks 😭 Enya sympathizes with him a bit since they share similar titles and weighty duties now, and Ernesto... Is a bit intimidated by him najabajsbjs... ⚰️

Federico calls Exe: love, almost exclusively! Very classic sbsjhs... Sometimes, in private, he'll use Lateran ones, like amor meus 💞🤲
