“If there is light behind her eyes, it’s out now.”
Worlds Beyond Number always makes me want to draw. This time I pushed myself to not leave it unfinished.

quick note on steel's eradication of a sorcerer's entire family name from existence at the end of the battle of twelve brooks part 1:
as brennan described the spell, one part of it was steel's sword turning and the world being something like a sea of stars, everyone becoming insignificant pinpricks in the grand scheme of things
it makes me think about indri's library and her power to spy on anyone under the stars, and how suvi (under the effects of geas and modify memory) stole that knowledge from her for steel
and now, as part of a spell to erase a true name, the stars are invoked
i wonder how recently this spell was developed, and if this was the first casting of it ever witnessed

Shit man, this Battle of Twelve Brooks is fucked. I just saw a guy clap his hands together and make tens of flesh sorcerers emerge from a dreadnaught and decapitate imperial wizards faster than the eye can perceive. The camera didn't even go onto him, thats how common shit like this is. My ass is casting firebolt and level 2 erulian bolts. I think I just heard the sword of the citadel yell "VOLLEY" two skyships over. I gotta get the fuck outta here.

Really really really loved how Brennan showed the two different sides of this "combat"
The insane fantasy moments: the dreadnoughts, Eioghorain, Ame's curse, the chained dragon, everything with that last scene between the sorcerer and Steel. Devastating and scary, but also really cool
Intimately juxtaposed with small moments that brought the true light of horror back: realizing a solider is only 17 in his first battle where he will surely die, the acid damaging the land so it will know no life for generations to come, bodies of those that begged for an academy not to be demolished, Suvi recognizing the wizard she just killed. Just admissions that there are no winners here. Every part of this is a loss.
It makes everything feel so much more real

There's something interesting. Alecto refers to Anastasia as "the tomb-keeper" in the Nona epilogue. But how'd she know that?
It sure seemed like, when John was leading her into the tomb, she didn't know exactly what was going on, or where she was going.
After that she sleeps for ten thousand years, wakes up as Nona and knows jack shit about fuck.
So she's had all of a couple of minutes to put two and two together and give Anastasia a new title and surmise a thing or two about her family line. Not impossible, I suppose, but odd.
Two other possibilities: Alecto knew what the tomb was and who would be guarding it going in. In which case why did she let that happen? Why put on such a show for John?
Or - and this idea REALLY sparks my interest - was she somehow aware during her ten thousand year sleep? Either of the people around her, or of Anastasia somehow, or the latter's spirit... So she took to thinking of her as "the tomb keeper" during that time.
