January of 2022 I decided to make a small art/journalling project of my knitting notes, today I filled the last page of the journal I started and look at what a chonker it has become:
Tumblr media
80 projects documented within it's pages: 78 knits and 2 crochet, 6 still as WIPs and 3 have been since frogged to make other things, and 11 of which are made with handspun yarn!
Broken down by project type that's: 31 pairs of socks, 29 jumpers/tops, 7 shawls/scarfs, 5 hats, 4 home items, 3 baby items, and 1 wall mounted dragon head.
Here's to many more projects to come in Vol 2

We are so close to finishing!
Really hoping aggressive blocking will help with the rolling edges. If not, might have to add a crochet edging for stability. We shall see!! I shouldn’t get too far ahead of myself lol

mini flame butterfly
I do love these butterflies - and I wanted to try making teeny ones!
Tumblr media
This one is made from embroidery floss!
(I'd purchased the flame colours for another project, but I don't think I'll be using them for that, and I certainly hadn't felt like it yet.)
It was tiny and fiddly, using the smallest of my non-steel hooks, which is a 2.25mm and only just small enough for embroidery thread crochet perhaps. (I have one steel hook, a 1.65mm, but I need to get some with ergonomic handles if I'm going to keep on the tack of crocheting with thread.)

It was actually easier/less argly than crocheting with proper crochet thread? X'D
Though some of that might be due to the fact that the crochet thread is a bit bigger than embroidery floss and I was using it with the same size hook - meaning it was tighter and the embroidery floss was looser. Then again, embroidery floss is also a bit softer/smoother.
It comes in so many colours to play with! . . .but in much shorter lengths, and more expensive. Not too much of an issue for butterfly sized projects - it takes just under a quarter of a hank for the inner wings, just over a third of one for the outer wings . . . and not much for the body and antennae, of course.
Thinking of some other thread projects and butterflies already!

I looooove making mini quilts!
Quick to make,
Instant gratification,
Learn new things,
Use less material,
Excellent way to use scraps,
And it's fun.

I learned a cool crochet technique today.
Did you know you can create a flat piece of forward facing only stitches?
Tumblr media
cool huh
Its done by alternating rows of right and left handed rows
Tumblr media
bum side for comparison
I thought it would be good for amigurumi, if you have to switch between rounds and rows, so you have a more consistent texture.
It does have noticeable slant but i think its less of an issue than the dip you get on the backside of the turned rows.
It is pretty difficult to wrap your head around mirroring the movements but i guess it would get easier with practice.

I've been trying to distract myself from the horrors of modern life by knitting unnecessarily complex cable swatches. They are partly inspired by printer's ornaments and other typographic elements.

I love a finished work. Finally washed, ironed, and ready for the wall! (Oops, had to edit to add pic, I didn't realize the Squonk was hiding under the skeleton!)
