#Telangana Lockdown Extension #Owaisi Urges KCR Govt Not to Extend Curbs, Suggests Mini Lockdowns Decision Today #Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday urged the Telangana government not to extend the prevailing COVID-19 lockdown in the state, which is in force since May 12 with a four-hour daily relaxation. After 10 days, it was further extended till May 30. The state Cabinet is going to meet today to decide whether the lockdown in Telangana must be extended. In a series of tweets, the MP said data showed COVID cases were declining in the state much before the lockdown was imposed. "I must reiterate my opposition. It's not a strategy to combat COVID-19. It APPEARS as a "hard on pandemic" strategy but all it does is destroy the lives of poor," Owaisi tweeted. Noting that the only long-term solution is universal vaccination, he said, "Lockdowns give a cruel choice to the poor: poverty, police atrocities, or pandemic. They make a public health crisis into a law and order problem. They are neither a scientific nor a humanitarian strategy." While urging the Chief Minister to not extend lockdown, he said if the government wanted to reduce crowding of the public, it may consider evening curfews from 6 pm, or impose mini lockdowns for COVID-19 clusters. "But expecting people to live for weeks with just a 4-hour lockdown relaxation is not fair at all." Telangana on Saturday reported 2,982 COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to over 5.74 lakh, while the toll stood at 3,247 with 21 casualties. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 436, followed by Nalgonda (190) and Khammam (176), the bulletin said. Recoveries outnumbered fresh cases, with 3,837 people testing negative, taking the total to 5,33,862. Active cases stood at 36,917. The total number of cumulative cases in the state stood at 5,74,026. https://www.instagram.com/p/CPf3GQerB5G/?utm_medium=tumblr

#Telangana stops second dose of Covaxin due to shortage The Telangana government has temporarily suspended the distribution of Covaxin for people above 45 due to shortage of vaccines. The announcement came on Sunday from the office of the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare that they are suspending distribution of Covaxin in view of inadequate stock of the vaccine. According to Director of Public Health G Srinivasa Rao, not enough stocks are available and fresh stocks have not been received from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Details regarding resumption of vaccination drive will be made available subsequently, he said. The suspension comes at a time when the state has been focusing on the second dose for people above 45 years for over two weeks. The state has stopped administering the first dose for beneficiaries and has also not taken up vaccination for those above 18 years of age due to lack of sufficient supplies from the Union government. Telangana, which claims to have the capacity to give 10 lakh vaccines every day, is administering 30,000 to 40,000 vaccines daily due to the shortage. On May 14, health authorities administered about 34,000 vaccines. The state has so far given 56.25 lakh doses and a total of 11.37 lakh beneficiaries received the second dose. Meanwhile the allocation of Remdesvir injections has improved with the Union Health Ministry setting aside 2.15 lakh injections for the State between April 21 and May 23. The increased allocation is expected to improve the availability of Remdesivir injection for COVID-19 positive patients. The state has already conveyed to the centre that to vaccinate people above 45 years of age, it requires 1.29 crore doses. The Chief Minister requested the Union government to supply 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh doses per day and also informed the centre that there is an urgent need for 13 lakh vaccines till the end of May. https://www.instagram.com/p/CPAQIFJLty8/?utm_medium=tumblr
