My Experience Using ExpressVPN in 2023
With more people working remotely and data privacy concerns, interest in virtual private networks (VPNs) continues to grow. ExpressVPN is one of the most popular VPN services, but is it still worth using in 2023? I've tested out ExpressVPN this year and here is my review.
Speed & Reliability
In my speed tests, ExpressVPN only reduced my connection speed by 15-25% when connected to a nearby VPN server. That's fast enough for activities like streaming HD video or large downloads. Connection reliability has also been rock solid during my use in 2023. The apps are very stable across devices.
Privacy & Security
ExpressVPN uses AES 256-bit encryption and has a zero knowledge DNS. The company is based in the British Virgin Islands, outside the jurisdiction of surveillance-friendly countries. While more transparency around audits would be welcome, ExpressVPN does seem to take privacy seriously based on my experience.
Ease of Use
The ExpressVPN app provides a simple on/off toggle to connect with one click. Switching server locations is easy with the intuitive interface. I had it set up and running in just minutes on my iPhone, Windows laptop, and Amazon FireStick. It was refreshingly easy to use.
Pricing
ExpressVPN costs $12.95/month if billed monthly, but I recommend taking advantage of their longer 6-month or 12-month plans to save on cost. There's also a 30-day money back guarantee available. As far as VPNs go, ExpressVPN is a little pricier but still reasonable.
Verdict in 2023
Overall, I continue to be impressed with ExpressVPN when testing it again this year. It adds very little friction to my internet experience while providing peace of mind around security and privacy. I would still recommend ExpressVPN in 2023 as a premium VPN choice.
