While some SHSL students work to be known for something outside of their talent, Sosuke is the exact opposite. He trains each and every day to better himself so that he can defeat his next opponent. Why? To be stronger.

Trivia:

Soseki’s name is a reference to a Chinese idiom, 漱石枕流, referring to a sore loser by describing them as someone who “rinses his mouth with a stone and rests his head on a pillow of steam.” The idiom is read “そうせき ちんりゅう” (souseki chinryuu) in Japanese.

Kei is the Genki Guy to Yoshiko’s strong female protagonist. His casual, friendly air made him popular with men and women, and as his reputation spread, people began to travel from hours away for a cup of coffee. Not only does he hold conversation well, but he’s able to make a patron the perfect drink with only so much as a handshake. Tea, cocoa, or coffee--and he’s not bad with food, either. 

With respect to coffee, he doesn’t drink it-- he prefers sweets and milk tea to coffee. He won’t touch cream-based coffee milkshakes, though, sweet as they are. He knows how annoying they are to make for the barista.

His name is made of the characters 奎 (kei), meaning “star” and 冨 (tomi), meaning “wealthy,” or “abundant,” in a heavy-handed reference to Starbucks.

Born into a family of servants, Yoshiko was exhaustively trained until her thirteenth birthday in whatever fields her future master could possibly need. At age thirteen, she was assigned to work for a powerful Japanese family for the remainder of her life. She dislikes being confused with maids or other household labourers, insisting that she isn’t around to serve just anybody, and that while she is able to carry out most requests, she will refuse to take orders from anybody outside of her master’s household.

Yoshi (欽) in her first name can mean “respect” or “revere,” referring to her talent.

No (野) in her last name can mean “plain” or “wild,” possibly referring to her status as a butler as a member of the working class.

Because she mentions that her master is the heir to a powerful conglomerate, it is speculated that Yoshiko works for the Togami family.

Yoshiko acts as a sort of foil to DRV3′s Kirumi Tojo, given her absolute enmity for serving her fellow students and lack of a mothering nature.
