Bang Chan left his home of Australia at age 13 to go to a foreign country and join one of the Big 3 music companies in South Korea. He trained for 7 years. During that time, his best friends BamBam and Yugyeom, who were born the same year he was, debuted with Got7. And then TWICE were formed, more people he had trained with, and they debuted not long after. But Chan was still in the company, having seen so many friends and people he trained with debut well before him.

Like that’s gotta be hard? He had to have wondered why he wasn’t good enough to debut? But he must not have given up hope because he stuck it out. For seven years he stuck it out, just waiting for his time, all the while honing his skils in rap, singing, writing, producing, and composing and more trainees entered the company. Some left, but some stuck and he was able to form a group of 9 members and finally FINALLY get his chance to debut. But not before JYPE had to put him and the others through emotional hell and they lost 2 along the way.

The moment that Chan tells Felix to always find him, and that he’ll never leave him behind honestly broke my heart (and I watched this well after it had finished airing so I know they got in as 9) because… what would he be able to do? He couldn’t force JYP to let Felix, or Minho for that matter, back into the group. But he still tried to comfort Felix and you damn well know that Chan would do everything in his power to make sure Felix doesn’t get left behind, whatever that would mean.

But they did it!! They get to debut as 9 and that’s what fans wanted (fuck the 4%) and just… imagine what a huge relief that had to have been? These 7 years of watching friends debut without him, of not giving up, even with this stupid competition show, they get to debut… and they get to do it as a whole group, not a partial one.

He cares so much about the other 8 members of Stray Kids, it’s really unbelievable. Seeing him choke up while talking about this, even though I didn’t know what he was saying at the time, made me cry. Seeing Changbin cry over Chan’s letter made my cry. They all had such a hard time, but Chan is such a strong person for sticking it through 7 years and now he’s going to debut and he’s going to be one of the best leaders a kpop group has ever had.

Stray Kids are gonna go far ya’ll. I’m so glad I get to be on this journey with him.
