Experience Now Swimming with Pigs Exuma Before Anyone Else
Tumblr media
When you hear Bahamas, what comes immediately from your mind? Isn’t it the crystal clear waters and its sugary sands? Yes, and it’s comprised by 700 stunning islands.
You may think of visitors and celebrities sunning themselves on one desolate beach, but they aren’t the only ones adoring good times in the outlandish Exuma cays. Take a tour around these primeval shores and you’ll see in your eyes hogging the shallow waters and playing in the tropical climes, special-skilled swimming pigs.
Pigs are said to be natural swimmers when the situation necessitates. They are adequate to strong swimmers. What’s interesting about these Bahamian pigs is that they seem to enjoy swimming—but remember that they are intelligent animals who are motivated by food, so it’s possible their partiality to frolicking in the waves is based on knowing the kind of behavior for which suckers, meaning tourists, will generously reward them.
Recently, Swimming with Pigs Exuma became a kind of phenomenon. Tourist can also do diving and snorkeling. This is undeniably a paradise in the Exuma Cays, Bahamas.
Where Are the Swimming Pigs?
Tumblr media
The swimming pigs are to be found in Exuma, a district of the Bahamas with over 350 islands. The popular island wherein you can stay at is Staniel Cay, but the pigs are on Big Major Cay AKA Pig Beach or Pig Island, which is an uninhabited island except for the swimming pigs. There is also a very small island/cay in Abacos near Green Turtle Cay that has a lesser population of pigs.
How Did Swimming Pigs Get There?
Well, the truth is there are about as many myths and stories as to how the pigs got to the island as there are people on Staniel Cay (approximately 90 people, so 90 different stories). However, the seemingly most credible story was that the Gray family that owns the island that the swimming pigs live on brought them to the island and do tend to them, somewhat. Especially now that they are such a huge part of their tourism economy.
