The plumber from Hawaii who I believe to be an Obama-Trump voter that was radicalized to right-wing nutjobbery out of frustration with Obama's response to the housing crisis

The libertarian dad from Missouri who agreed with the anti-war part of my sign but said he didn't trust the government with the "feed the poor" part

The extremely nervous left-liberal teenager from California who hesitantly came up to talk shit about Trump with me because he liked my sign

Two different Army officers who shook my hand and thanked me for being there (I think that this was mostly for show, but that it also reflects a genuine annoyance among some Army brass at Trump for his handling of this event (and at Secretary Hegseth for being asleep at the wheel))

CODEPINK folks (always a pleasant encounter, to be clear, but how do they manage to show up to every political event in DC? Unmatched batting record in that regard)

A Washington Post reporter who was a pretty good interviewer. I'm guessing she was relieved to find me so that they can have some "both sides" fodder for their coverage of this event, because a second WaPo reporter noticed my sign and tried to do their own interview a few minutes later

Two old lefties who gave me a thumbs up and then discussed some of of their own work in the anti-war movement

Two friendly hipster photographers who took shots of me (on film) for a project they're working on; I asked if I could see it when it's done, and they said "Ok, so we don't really know what this project is yet..."

A Democracy Now reporter, yet another welcome presence in what was otherwise a generally hostile environment.

Most of the vitriol directed at me was just in passing, people throwing out some gotcha retorts at me while I was walking by. The people willing to actually stop and chat are always more cordial, even the people on the right
