“The tool is only as strong as its master, SMG3..." said SMG4 with a shrug, after spitting out the last of the blood that had boiled up in his host’s mouth. Bits of the mask broke off at the mouthpiece, revealing his signature yellow-toothed smile shining out in the shadows of his face. 

SMG3 only scoffed and crossed his arms, unimpressed. “And some tools are better than others. Look at you, you had to waste all this energy on body modifications just so that you could feel comfortable.”

SMG4 rose to his feet, and put the shy guy’s hands on his hips. 

“Don’t worry, it didn’t cost THAT much energy! And besides, can’t a guy just take a host for fun? I get bored of only going for strong hosts! I gotta try something new!”

SMG3 chuckled as he looked down at his partner’s new height. Still so short and stubby. “Oh, like how the weather is down there? You look so punt-able right now.”

"All part of the fun!" SMG4 laughed. If he was bothered by SMG3's comment, he didn't show it.

“You see SMG3, you’re what the gamers call a ‘meta slave.’" the tanuki continued, holding up his finger. "And nobody likes someone who only thinks of using the best teams, strategies, and characters all the time! It’s incredibly uncreative!”

His yellow smile sharpened in a thin crescent. “It’s no wonder you copied me all the time! Haha!"

SMG3 would usually get angry and flustered now. But this time, his eyes widened and his brow furrowed so fast that SMG4 could barely catch the movement. His body went rigid, and his mouth closed tight as he suddenly stopped breathing. The spikes on his arms ever-so-slightly pricked up.

SMG4 realized that he had struck a deeper nerve. A long moment passed, as the pair stood in silence in the suddenly-thickened atmosphere.

“Oh. I see.” SMG3 said, in the calmest voice imaginable. “Then I guess it’s better that I’ve changed.” And then he silently turned and walked away with a swish of his cape. 

SMG4 was left there, standing there like an idiot. It did not feel good. "Note to self: don't kill the mood like that again," he said to himself under his breath.

He sighed. He would... apologize. Later. With a ukelele. Perhaps looking cute and adorable would help him too.
