feasting on bread and berries, katniss considers all of the people that rely on her and comes to a definite conclusion.
"i never want to have kids" (thg, 9).
and such a quick statement earns and equally quick response from gale, although it's certainly more light-hearted.
"i might. if i didn't live here" (thg, 9).
this is the scene that suzanne chooses to introduce these best friends. and though these two might feel in sync from familiar years in their woods, this dialouge suggests a significant difference in their worldviews.
but where does this difference emerge? didn't they both lose fathers at a young age? weren't they forced to the woods, forced together, by a mutual need to survive?
yeah, they sure did. but gale was living in a household with a functional parent. katniss was all alone.
hazelle quickly found work after her husband's death. and while she worked her fingers to the bone on a washboard, gale ventured into the woods. and so they were able to ensure their family's survival. together. as a team.
and hazelle's functionality allows gale a little freedom to just be… a teenager. free to flirt with girls. and think about a future away from panem. a future with his best friend.
and of course it makes sense that gale would be more open to marriage and not nessasarily terrified of starting a family. because maintaining a household for him has always been a team effort. and the responsibilites of providing don't seem so daunting with two people tackling them.
but that is a very different story with katniss. her mother's crippling depression forced katniss to step up. alone.
leaving katniss to bear the weight of her family's survival by herself. and this is a weight that impacts every aspect of katniss's life. especially her ability to love. because while gale might see a practical benefit to companionship, katniss only sees an added responsibility. a dangerous vulnerability. something to be avoided at all cost.
so imagine the surprise as katniss finds herself in love despite her best efforts. and her horror of realizing it far too late to do anything about it.

Superman isn't woke. You're just so evil that you see a man doing acts of kindness and you think it's a targeted political agenda

That dress was just screaming senator!Rey to me. As for Ben Swolo, I'm undecided if he's supposed to be a senator, a Jedi, a prince or all of the above 😜
Can somebody recommend a fic along those lines? I seem to remember one in which Ben is a senator and he and Rey got into a political marriage when she was still very young and she is super thirsty for him but he won't acknowledge she's already grown because he's guilty and conflicted and doesn't want to be a pervert. Could anybody remind me of the title? Thnx! <3
#reylo#star wars#ben solo#rey#reylo au#senator and jedi au#but he was the senator and she the jedi#ai generated#i confess#i was weak

It’s incredibly important to me that the anime decided to include this scene that wasn’t in the manga. In the manga, Maomao does pass out in Jinshi’s lap after saving him from what was obviously an assassination attempt.

HOWEVER, the manga cuts off at this point, keeping strictly in Maomao’s perspective, and cuts straight to when she regains consciousness in bed after being treated for her injuries. The manga doesn’t show how she got back. They SAY how, and she briefly mentions, “wow that must have been embarrassing; he carried me back,” but we don’t SEE it. We don’t get to feel the true impact of what that means. But the anime DID show us, and holy shit.

They SHOW us how taboo this is. They show Jinshi carrying her out of the temple, after a public attempt on his life.

They show us the shock and horror on Lakan’s face as Jinshi silently walks past him. Horror at the state his daughter is in, horror at another man—a man with a status he could never dare to question—staking such a public claim over his child, horror at the fact that he could never have this level of closeness with her (as Maomao would never allow it).

Everyone hides their gazes, as is their custom when someone of his rank passes by, but the air is different this time. Jinshi is furious, he’s terrified, and he could not give a single shit about how inappropriate it looks to these palace officials.

The shot that slowly follows her trail of blood—even though it’s a small detail—that in particular leaves such a intense impression of how poignant this is for him.
Maomao talked about this scene in the manga like it was nothing to her. She did what she set out to do: she saved the person who was targeted by the attack. She didn’t even know the target would be someone she knew. But she has no idea that this happened afterwards as a result of her bravery. To her, it likely wasn’t even an act of bravery at all. She acted on impulse; she did what she knew was the right thing to do.
The anime didn’t need to include this, because the manga didn’t show it. But damn, I’m so glad they did.
